The product, in the report: JBL Charge 3 portable [REDACTED] speaker, Camouflage edition
On October 11, 2026, my JBL Charge 3 portable [REDACTED] speaker (Camouflage edition, manufactured by Harman International) failed: the lithium-ion battery swelled and burst, the speaker casing broke open, and the device became extremely hot (severe overheating). The speaker was in use at my home. No person was injured and there was no property damage beyond the speaker itself, but the overheating was so severe it could have caused a fire and could have been fatal. This product presents a fire and explosion hazard and should be investigated.

The product, in the report: Black JBL Flip 5 Speaker
I was charging my JBL Flip portable speaker at my desk when it exploded and caught fire. The blast singed the stuffed animals on my desk and left the room covered in ash and smoke. I was lucky to be home to handle it, but my house would have burned down if not.

No one hurt Made Jul 7, 2026, sent to the company Jul 10, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 31, 2026
The product, in the report: JBL Flip 6 waterproof portable speaker
My JBL Flip 6 speaker exploded and caught fire as it was sitting on my counter. It was not charging or in use at the time. The embers burnt the laminate countertop and melted several plastic items sitting nearby. I was home at the time and was able to quickly remove the smoking speaker outdoors where it continued to smoke for several minutes. It was too hot to touch even after the smoke was gone.
