The product, in the report: Avantek WN-1B white noise machine
Dear Consumer Protection,
I recently bought an Avantek WN-1B white noise machine. Last night within seconds of plugging the machine in we found our 18 month old son with the USB cord in his hand, and the USB plug had come apart with a simple tug leaving exposed metal prongs extending from the wall outlet. This is clearly an extreme hazard for both electrocution and fire. I have recreated the condition using an unplugged extension cord for illustration. (photos available but not able to be attached here).
Upon examination, the USB adapter can come apart by either pulling on the USB cord while plugged into the wall, or by pushing on the USB cord which pushes all the internal part out of the casing The exposed prongs are live, extend from the casing, and are easily contacted. Without rapid reaction on our part this could have lead to tragedy. This is such an extreme hazard I believe it needs to be acted on rapidly. I can make the USB adapter and sound machine available for examination.
