  3. No one hurt

Made Jan 12, 2026, sent to the company Jan 15, 2026, published by CPSC Feb 5, 2026

The product, in the report: Product name: Anker PowerConf S500 Speakerphone Manufacturer: Anker Innovations Product category / purpose: [REDACTED] conference speakerphone designed for deskbased use in home offices and small meetings. The device combines a speaker, microphones, and internal rechargeable lithiumion battery to support handsfree calling and audio playback when connected to a computer or mobile device. Model: PowerConf S500 Color: Black (dark gray/black housing with matte finish)

While the Anker PowerConf S500 speakerphone was stationary on my desk, the device suddenly emitted a very loud pop, immediately followed by thermal failure and ignition. The unit caught fire and partially melted, producing visible heat damage. The device was close enough that, if not noticed immediately, the incident could have resulted in a larger fire. The event was sudden, violent, and unexpected. The device caused burn damage to a highquality solidwood executive desk. The damage penetrated the finish and scorched the surface. Based on the construction and finish of the desk, professional refinishing or replacement will likely be required.
