The product, in the report: 75” Vizio Black Flat Screen
We were watching tv. It shut off and there was a spark and smoke. We unplugged it and within a minute it started smoking very badly. We had to rip it off our wall and throw it in our yard and hose it down as it was on fire from the inside. It is a Vizio Home Theater Display Model M75-E1. Input 120V-60Hz 1.73 A. Part No 10262024221. Serial Number LTMAEMMT3350577. Had we not been home, this could have caught our house on fire. We are a family of 8 and children were sleeping at the time this happened, had my husband not been able to get it off the wall before it caught fire, our house would have caught fire. My husband hauled this 75” tv by himself while it was burning from the inside and chemical smoke was filling our house. We have a daughter with a heart condition that was asleep right above this. We had to leave doors open with the heat running to get the chemical smell out of our house. Additionally we have 4 animals that also could have suffered.

The product, in the report: 60 inch flat screen TV
Popping sounds started coming from my 60 inch Vizio TV in the back room of my house while it was off and when I went to investigate I saw smoke coming from it. I immediately unplugged it, removed it from the wall mount and brought it outside to be trashed. My wife and I wonder what would have happened if this occurred while we were upstairs sleeping or if we werent home, instead of being in the next room and able to immediately react like we did.

No one hurt Made Jun 23, 2022, sent to the company Jun 30, 2022, published by CPSC Jul 15, 2022
The product, in the report: Vizio Flat screen Television 20/21 inch screen size
Vizio flat screen television (Model E291-A1) fell off wall mount when thin plastic casing (~1/8 inch thick) simply broke away; there are no other internal support structures or framing ; have 4 pictures.
Report update: As the units age, the heating and cooling likely cause the plastic to become fragile or brittle whereupon it may fail causing the TV to fall off the mount and potentially land on a child or cause an electric shortage leading to some type of fire or electrocution potential. There is no internal support bracket (e.g., aluminum panel or bracket ) that would safe-guar against such failure.
Their solution, send me a link for a $35 rebate on a new Vizio TV. The sales tax likely exceeds $35 and some of us stand by principle of the issue not to be bought off by corporate lawyers.

The product, in the report: Television set, Vizio Model D40f-G9
Re. VIZIO Televison Model D40f-G9: Noticed television was leaning towards the viewer. Inspection showed the front legs of the supporting stand, left and right, had cracked and were not able to support the weight of the set. The television has never been mishandled. Presumably, this failure was the result of compression stress over time.

No one hurt Made Mar 5, 2021, sent to the company Mar 18, 2021, published by CPSC Apr 1, 2021
The product, in the report: Vizio 42 inch flat screen smart TV, model# E420i-B0. M Model E420i-B0
I was watching my then, month old Vizio E420i-B0 smart TV in my then living room, by myself. Before my very eyes, the television tipped forward on its face and broke. I was confused and shocked by what had happened. I had never seen a TV just fall over on its own in my life! My first thought was “they’re never going to believe that it fell on it’s own like that!”. The next morning I called Vizio to tell them what happened. I was obviously very upset, I had just paid about $500 for a TV that I only got to use for a month. As I expected, Vizio said although the TV was still under warranty, it wasnt covered. “Televisions don’t fall over without help,” Said [REDACTED] from Vizio. Which means that the damage is a result of customer negligence and not covered under the manufacturers warranty. Right, of course not. Well, like a fool, I bought another Vizio, definitely not my finest moment, but that is a whole different conversation so we’ll leave that one alone! Anyways, fast forward to present day. By the time we get to 2021, I will have purchased and ultimately regretted said purchase of four Vizio Tvs, and a Vizio 5 piece surround sound and sound bar system. Finally, after wasting $3000 on Vizio products that last somewhere between one month and 12 months, I grew a brain and realized I needed to find out what was going on with Vizio. How can I spend that much money on 5 Vizio products and the last time any of them worked was a year and a half ago? That’s nonsensical! Ive been rather distracted by the pandemic, but I am paying attention now. When I started to look into things, I learn that a month after my 420i-B0 committed suicide, Vizio announced a recall on 420i-B0 because the TV stand assembly makes the TV unstable and prone to tipping. That sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Apparently, it wasnt familiar to Vizio! Even though I had called in a month before they issued the recall, gave them all of my contact information, they never informed me of a recall. Even when I later registered my Vizio products, including the recalled model, they still didn’t inform me of the recall. Isn’t that the whole point of registering products? Isn’t this nuts? You wanna hear the best part? If you were lucky enough to learn about the recall before your TV tipped, then you are in luck! They will replace your stand assembly for free! But, If your TV happened to tip over as a result of the manafacturers defect-those damages aren’t covered. What [REDACTED] is going on here? That doesn’t make any sense at all. They are thieves and liars at Vizio, purchase their products only if you are a fool like me.

Hurt, no treatment Made Sep 9, 2020, sent to the company Oct 6, 2020, published by CPSC Nov 10, 2020
The product, in the report: Vizio 42 in Smart Led E420i-B0 Tv that we used to watch tv.
Ever since I got my Vizio 42 Inch Smart TV Model number E420i-B0 S/N LAQAPTAQ 0801718 I fell in love with it instantly and so we used books to keep it from tipping over because it lightly swayed. Which was at the time a minor annoyance in comparison to the quality of the television. Unfortunately there came a day when we needed the books, so we remove them and no longer noticed the light swaying. Figuring the problem solved itself, we left it unsupported. One day while were watching tv it just tipped over from where it was on the dresser about 4 feet high landing on a portable fan smashing the center of the television screen. Regretably my boyfriend tried catching he tv set was subsequently smack in the eye causing light bruising underneath the eye. Usually, I have my grandchildren in my home and am appalled imaging that it could been one of them standing there in direct line of where the television fell instead of the portable fan. As I search online to replace the damaged screen I noticed this television was recalled for this same exact reason but I was never given a notice of recall nor was I aware that it was recalled. I’ve had this television for number of years. The company in my opinion didn’t do enough to warn or give notice to consumers about the recall notice so that situations like this or God forbid worse can be prevented.

The product, in the report: Vizio 45” high definition smart tv
My husband, using the remote, attempted to turn on our Vizio tv (& system). There was a loud bang sound at that moment - I thought something had fallen from a shelf, but our daughter thought she saw a flash of light near the area, but she wasn’t positive as she was in a different area. All of the a/v components had turned on, but not the tv, so he figured the remote wasn’t pointed towards the tv correctly. I was looking around for what dropped & caused the boom... my husband, re-tried turning everything on again with the remote as I was walking past the tv and then another loud boom with actual flames shooting out right in front of me!!! YIKES!!! Our daughter ran for the fire extinguisher, I turned around to unplug the entire system (& my husband sat in his chair, remote still in hand and his mouth wide open in shock - LOL!) Nothing caught on fire - thank God - the smell of electric burn was overwhelming for awhile, but it certainly was a frightening and dangerous experience and I was so thankful it didn’t happen during our Christmas celebrations which would have had flammable decorations that certainly would have been a disaster waiting to happen.
I have NO idea what exploded - twice - but it’s not staying in my home - my husband removed it immediately and took it to our local recycling center this morning. I think there MUST be ways to safeguard consumers from these types of dangers and share these details in order to alert you and protect others!

I quickly unplug it and took it outside and put the small fire out.

The product, in the report: Vizio E420i-B0 42” HDTV.
I purchased a Vizio E420i-B0 television on Amazon.com on April 27, 2014. While moving the TV to adjust connections in the back, I noticed the TV seemed tippy on its stand. Subsequently, the TV broke off its stand and tumbled onto the floor when I closed a door on the wall unit it was located on, breaking the top and right side screen frame. I now see that there is a recall issued on this TV stand. I’ve contacted Vizio to see how they will rectify the damage.

The submitter was watching TV for approximately one hour when she noticed a bright light and the TV exploded. The submitter said the left corner of the screen has a burn hole and many cracks going from the hole. The submitter also indicated that the TV shook when the incident occurred.
The submitter contacted the firm and notified them of the incident. The submitter said she spoke with [REDACTED] and he was very kind (case # [REDACTED]). She was told that they would take care of the matter and asked her to send pictures of the TV. The submitter was told that this incident had never happened before.
The submitter said she sent the pictures yesterday morning and later in the evening she received a call back from [REDACTED]. The submitter was told that they would not assist her with a replacement because the TV had been physically damaged and they did not believe it was through an explosion. The submitter said [REDACTED] was rude and repeatedly cut her off. The submitter insisted that the TV exploded but he did not believe her.
The submitter believes the TV poses a fire hazard and should be recalled. The submitter plans to contact the retailer to advise them of the safety hazard with the TV.
The submitter indicated that she has seen many reports online about Vizio televisions catching on fire and exploding.
The submitter said she used the TV daily.

The product, in the report: Vizio 40” flatscreen TV Model no. E400i B2
In the fall of 2015, we bought a Vizio 40” flat screen TV Model No. E400i B2. On January 18, 2017, we could not turn the TV on. After examining the TV, we discovered that the plastic backing on the TV had melted and was severely deformed from an interior fire or extreme heat from the inside of the TV. Vizio has rejected our warranty claim saying that the melting was caused by exterior heat such as a fireplace or by the sun. There is no fireplace in the room and I find it hard to believe that the sunshine coming through a window in the middle of the winter would cause the back of the TV to melt. The TV had been in the same spot for over a year and had never experienced any overheating problems from an external source or otherwise. Thank you.

About a year and a half ago we purchase a Vizio E601i-A3 60-inch 1080p Razor LED Smart HD TV. Our tv recently developed a small crack and the crack has quickly spread. There are now razor sharp edges around the crack. Nothing hit the tv and the tv isn’t that old. I have a three year old and a four month old and I am worried they will cut their fingers on the crack because the edges around the spreading crack are extremely sharp and stick out. The crack is effecting the picture on the screen as well. I feel this tv is a safety hazard.

The product, in the report: 37’’ Television Remote Control
02/01/2015 - The consumer was watching television. The consumer went to use the rest room and placed his remote control on the futon he sat at. When the consumer got back approximately ten minutes later, he noticed his futon had a black hole where the remote was placed. There was smoke and smoldering. The consumer estimates the diameter of the hole to be 18’’.
The consumer had to take his futon outside and pour water in it in order to put the smoke out. This took approximately ten minutes. The consumer indicates that he placed the remote control in a bag.
The consumer indicates that the remote control uses two AAA batteries. The remote control only melted where the batteries are located. The back of the remote got stuck to the futon.
02/05/2015 - The consumer contacted the manufacturer and after he explained what had occurred with his television remote control, the representative he spoke to informed him that they would look into the matter but that in the meantime, they needed him to send them pictures of the remote and the futon. The consumer informed the representative that all he wanted remote control as well as a new futon and that he would take care of the job painting to remove the burnt smell from his home.
The consumer indicates that his television still works perfectly fine.
The consumer reports that he received a small blister on his left hand from the incident but that it was nothing major.
The consumer indicates that this is the first time that he has had any issues with his unit. The consumer believes this product poses a safety and fire hazard.

Top left (as viwed from the back) internal case post apparently failed, resulting in the front of the Television to pop out. Viso TV, Model VAL26LHDTV10T, serial number LTYMDAHL4362543, received 10/10/2011 in exchange for an earlier model that failed.
As this TV is on a wall mounted bracket well above the floor I consider this a safety hazard and just contacted the company. Their reply was that had no other incidents like this, and as the TV was out of warranty wanted to refer me to a repair shop. Implied that we would have to pay for the repair.
As the front of the (26”) TV, the heavy portion, is only held in place by 4 corner screws, this questions the design and safety of the product.

I have a 42 inch Vizio t.v. that ended up breaking because the stand for the television (which just came to my attention is on recall) was not sturdy. I shut the door to my house and the t.v. tipped over and caused the television to have a impact mark and ruin the t.v. I am very lucky my 2 year old son was not in the vicinity of the t.v. at the time of the fall.

I purchased the Vizio Smart TV (42”) from Wal-Mart summer 2013, the Television stand assembly can fail and cause the television to tip over unexpectedly and damaged viewing screen. The television was on a TV Stand that was approximately four feet off the floor and once the stand assembly failed the television crashed onto the floor. Currently the Television screen is not visible and it seems to be cracked and has a spider like look. At the time if the incident I only had the item for approximately 10 months.

Vizio 60” TV tipped over and fell. Mounted on stand that came with tv. TV is broken - unusable. Purchased in July this year (2014) from SAMs Club. Called Vizio who said that there is a recall on other model TVs, but not on Model # E600i-B3, Serial # LFTRPUAQ1701865. Paid $900.00 for TV.
There must be a connection. I have never heard of this happening before. But if it happened with the smaller screen, I suspect that there is a design flaw that affects the larger TVs as well.

The product, in the report: 26” HDTV Black with stand
On the evening of October 5, 2014 before I went to bed I kept smelling something that smelled like something burning. You remember the smell from the racetrack we had when we were little. The black one with the metal strips you had to put the car on to make them go? Well anyway I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from and my husband was already asleep and I didn’t want to wake him up because he had to be at work a 0 dark 30 this morning. I didn’t know what else to do so I prayed and ask God to put Angels all around us to watch over us and our house and to protect us from hurt, harm and danger and went to bed. This morning I turned the tv in the living room on and it didn’t come on. It just started flashing. I hurried up and unplugged it and took the plug out of the back of the tv and this is what I found. The end of the plug that goes into the back of the tv was burnt and melted. That explains the smell but I was immediately concerned that this may be an issue with more than just this one television. The tv was manufactured in February of 2010. I will be calling VIZIO to make sure they are aware of this issue. Vizio called me back last night about the tv. Their response to the plug end that goes into the tv shorting out and melting is......since no one was injured they really can’t do anything for me other than sell me a used tv, a smaller version of the one that thank God didn’t start a fire and kill my whole family not to mention we live in an apartment so my neighbors would have been affected as well, for more than I paid for the original television. I told him that I have had to throw out two previous vizio televisions because they developed lines running through the screen a little over a year after they were purchased. Conveniently the warranty had just run out. His response? “That could happen with any tv. I told him it has never happened with my other non vizio brand televisions and that a tv should last longer than a few years. Televisions are supposed to be made to last a very long time. Seriously [REDACTED] at Vizio??? That’s the best you can do for selling faulty equipment that put my family in danger? What would your response have been if someone had been injured? Here ya go, today only we can offer you this smaller 24 inch [REDACTED] vizio television for 195.00 or you can get a 28 inch for 279. Oh yeah, wait, that was your response to no one being injured. I guess if someone had been injured you could have offered me an 18 inch for 500.00. His response to all of this was, “I’m really sorry you experienced this problem. If there was anything we could do to make it right we would”. Really???? I don’t believe that for one second. I told him they can keep their defective dangerous tv and I will definitely not be purchasing any Vizio products in the future. Furthermore, I will be letting all of my friends on facebook, and beyond know exactly what kind of company Vizio is and make sure they are aware of how dangerous Vizio products are. He began again with the previous response, “I’m really sorry blah, blah, blah. At this point I hung up before I forgot I’m a Christian and went straight street on him. Our three year old Vizio tv started shooting sparks out of the top left corner and then flames shot out of the same area. This lasted about 20 seconds and quit. No injuries occurred and no damage was done to the room where the tv was located. In fact, the tv shows very little signs of damage. Once the fire went out, we unplugged the tv. The tv and the room still smell like fire / smoke. We have contacted the manufacturer who has not gotten back to us.

The incident happened during the middle of the night, the TV was off and had been off for over 5 hours, although it was still plugged into the outlet. Prior to this incident, I had no issues with this TV, not a single problem. I was awaked by what sounded like firecrackers, and bright flashes of light as well as an overwhelming smell of an electrical fire. It wasn’t clear immediately what had caused this incident.. I checked all of the power supplies in the house including the fuse box to see if anything had tripped and nothing had. During my inspection to determine where this burning smell was coming from, I powered on the TV. The TV came on normally, picture was perfect, sound was perfect and with that I turned it off. Approximately 1-2 minutes after powering off the TV, flames began to shoot out of the back on top of the TV, with smoke and popping sounds ... the TV was on fire.. The fire department came as well as the Fire Inspector and it was determined that it was an isolated incident it was the TV.

I called vizio and at the time I was told I could receive a replacement stand “free of charge” BUT the broken screen was my responsibility. The product, in the report: Vizio 55” Model number E550va
I have had a Vizio 55” HDTV for about 3 years and the strangest thing began happening. There was an audible pop and then i lost sound. A few weeks later i tried plugging in my Cable box with an HDMI cord from the TV to the box and when the metal end of the HDMI cable touched the metal chassis of the cable box it produced a massive spark. After that i tested the HDMI’s ports with a voltage meter and discovered that 120 volts was coursing through the ports! I contacted Vizio and they assured me it couldnt be the TV that was a problem but the wiring in my house. After investigation i isolated the problem to the TV by unhooking everything and testing the pathways with a voltage meter. Soon after i was testing the TV again when the Cable box and tv burst into flames! I mean an open flame! It was very frightening and now the tv is of course destroyed along with the cable box. And it looks like Vizio will ignore this.
I hope something is done before someones house burns down and people are hurt or killed.

My husband and I were watching TV today June 2, 2013. We have a 32 inch Vizio. Model # E321VL.
This TV was purchased October 10, 2011.
The TV produced a burning smell and the screen went black. Smoke came from the back of the TV. My husband immediately unplugged the TV.
I am concerned as I have read other postings about this make of TV and read that some of them have caught on fire. I have two more TV’s (Vizio’s) of various sizes.
I am afraid that the other TV’s might catch on fire during the night and burn my house.

The product, in the report: Vizio 47” HDTV Flat screen TV Black
On December 26, 2012 at 7:00pm--I started to smell smoke/a definite electrical burning smell--I check all appliances, christmas tree. garage, attic, walls--smell started to get stronger. Finally I gave up and decided to wait for my husband to arrive home--I sat down to watch TV with the thought that if it gets any worse I am going to call the fire department. I turned on the TV and watched [REDACTED] for about five minutes--then I heard a couple of pops and then the screen went black--smoke and flames started to come out of the right hand side of the top of the TV, (the only thing I did not check). I immediately unplugged the set and disconnected the cable box. Scared the life out of me--husband arrived home. With the set unplugged the smoke and smell stared to lessen. Called Vizio to report--they took the info but I am out of warranty with Vizio--called BJ’s as I have an extended warranty. They informed me that some one from Roth’s Electronics would come to the house on Friday, December 28th between noon and 5pm. On December 27th someone called from Roths to cancel. Spoke with the service manager--he stated that he knows exactly what is wrong and if I give him the serial and model numbers he will order the parts, I did that. I told him I was not comfortable with a set in my house that had fire damage. He said that it is impossible for a TV to catch fire. It appear that I am just a stupid old lady and I should be thankful that he knows so much without seeing the TV. There is a melted spot on the back of the TV. I am also lucky that the service manage will call when parts arrive. It appears that I have no choice but to keep a TV that has caught fire or just toss it and call it a life lesson. Serial Number LAQKHFA1401376 Model Number E47OVL Purchased 5/6/11 from BJ’s Wholesale
1/2/13--received a call from Roth’s electronics--they will come on the 7th or 8th to install a new power something--not sure what. I checked out Roth’s and cannot find where they have registered with the State of Florida, of course, they can always be using another name. I guess there is nothing I can do except accept the fact that we threw away over $600 on a TV. Vizio isn’t interested--BJ’s is definitely not interested. It seems that fire and smoke in a TV means nothing to anyone but me.

The product, in the report: Vizeo 47 inch flatscreen model SV470M
While watching TV, my Vizeo 47 inch flatscreen model SV470M suddenly caught fire. The television never shut off on it’s own, even while on fire. After unplugging the TV, I was able to extinguish the fire, which was on the top left side of the TV, just inside the vented area of the case. If I wasn’t there to put the fire out, I’m sure it would have burned my house down. This TV was two years old.

The product, in the report: 42” VIZIO VO400E LCD HDTV Television
In December, 2009 I purchased a Vizio VO400E LCD HDTV from the Costco in Lihue, Hawaii. In March 2010 I was “camping” in the living room with my sons when in the middle of the night, with the T.V. off, I was woken by a loud popping sound. I looked up and could see bright white sparks shooting out of the back of the television and the room filled with the smell of an electrical fire. I got up and unplugged the surge protector that the television was plugged into as quickly as possible fearing that the cord would shock me. I was still a few days within the 90 day return period provided by Costco and returned/exchanged it for the same model on 3/6/10. This morning, 4/15/12, at around 4am my wife was sleeping on the couch with one of my daughters that was sick and had been coughing so much that my wife wanted her to sleep in a more up upright position. Again the television was off when she was woken by the same popping, flashing, and smell that I was two years before. It’s scary to think what may have happened if on both occasions one of us were not in the room to quickly unplug it.
