The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Nov 21, 2020, sent to the company Dec 11, 2020, published by CPSC Dec 29, 2020

The product, in the report: Sharp Led LCD tv model

During normal operation my lcd sharp led tv model LC-50N6000U s/n 50G154929H00461 age approximately 4 years old. began to get a bright spot bottom left of screen. The plastic began to melt around the display on bottom left of screen. I unplugged it, the area on screen was hot to the touch. No other damage or injuries, but if I wasn’t home I fear it would have caught fire.

  2. No one hurt

Made Jan 12, 2017, sent to the company Feb 3, 2017, published by CPSC Feb 17, 2017

The product, in the report: SHARP USA Liquid Crystal TV 70

On January 2,2017 a SHARP USA 70” TV, model #LC-70LE857U, could have burnt down my house.

Approx. a month earlier the screen had gone black and the power light flashed 2 long an 5 fast. I had left the set plugged in thinking that a miracle might happen and it might reset itself. haha wishful thinking

The set was less then 3 years old. It cost $2,600.00 + warranty and taxes.

January 2nd I was inspecting the TV because when passing by I felt it giving off extreme heat. Looking closer I could smell burning plastic. I immediately unplugged it and contacted SHARP USA.

I insisted that SHARP USA get someone to get this set out of my house. I was about to call the fire dept. to help remove it. I continued to keep a close watch over the set while it seemed to stay hot for hours more.

Sharp refused to send anyone to inspect the set until many calls later finally agreed to do so but not for a week or more.

I had informed every representative I spoke with that I was recording our conversations.

One rep., [REDACTED] insisted I DO NOT turn the set over to the CPSC.

Another rep., on the 4th, [REDACTED], threaten that if I give the set to the CPSC that it will void the warranty because someone other than SHARP USA will have opened the set. Funny thing, she KNEW it was well past the warranty stage.

Finally one week, 7 days later they sent a technician to check the set out.

The tech found the set short circuited which caused it to “OVERHEAT” which caused the plastic burning smell. He said it is very possible the set could have burned up.

So the tech that SHARP USA sent to my house confirmed the set was a fire hazard and endangered my family and children. Still SHARP USA is not concerned of the safety of their customers. They still refused to send someone to take the tv unless I took their deal which would have stopped any investigation by the CPSC.

SHARP USA’s only concern was to sweep this under the rug by offering me a “refurbished set”, and they would charge me $420.00. I was more concerned about their advising the CPSC.

The last rep. I spoke with was [REDACTED] who stated she was a “display coordinator”. I repeatedly asked her if the CPSC was contacted within the 24 hr period they are required to and she had no response. I don’t think ANY rep I spoke with knew about the CPSC. That is sad. When I insisted to speak with someone higher she refused. She said she was the highest level I could go. I’m sorry SHARP USA if [REDACTED] is at the top level of your customer relations, your out of your minds.

I want this resolved. I want a full refund. I expect nothing less than that from SHARP USA .

Above all I want the CPSC to come take the television to further investigate. This cannot be an isolated issue. Other families might be in danger.

Made Feb 25, 2015, sent to the company Mar 13, 2015, published by CPSC Mar 27, 2015

The product, in the report: 60” sharp Television on glass base

60” Sharp elevision is heavy, roughly 40lbs, and sat on a glass base. One evening the base literally exploded into pieces, sending shards of glass everywhere and the TV crashing down onto the table. Thankfully nobody was in front of it and nobody was hurt but the glass, supposedly safety glass, was sharp enough to cut my feet when I stepped on it. We have tried unsuccessfully to have the situation resolved as they keep sending a new glass base out with the rear person when we have made clear it is a hazard and want a different base, which they do make. Not only does the company produce a dangerous product, but they also do not value my families safety enough to correctly repair the defective item. It has been 3 weeks now and the situation continues
