No incident, no one hurt Made Oct 5, 2026, sent to the company Oct 19, 2026, published by CPSC Nov 2, 2026
The product, in the report: 65 inch LG OLED television with the original manufacturer supplied tabletop stand. Model OLED65CXPUA.AUS. The safety concern involves the original stand and base assembly, which physically fractured and allowed the television to fall.
I am reporting a safety concern involving the original stand on my 65-inch LG OLED television, model OLED65CXPUA.AUS.
On August 20, 2026, I was walking past the television when the edge of my shirt caught it and caused it to wobble. The stand physically broke and the television fell. Part of the broken stand remained screwed securely to the television while the other part separated.
The fall damaged the television and pulled several connected cables. Afterward, the television displayed vertical lines and would no longer operate normally.
I contacted LG because my concern was not simply that the television was damaged. I was concerned that the original stand broke and allowed a 65-inch television to fall. Fortunately nobody was underneath it when it happened, but I have children and animals in my home and this could have caused a serious injury.
LG asked me to preserve the television and all of the broken stand components, which I have done. After multiple contacts with LG, they eventually sent an authorized technician to inspect the television and broken stand.
LGs own service documentation from that inspection states:
The issue is with the physical base/stand of the LG TV. The base failed/broke, causing the television to fall unexpectedly.
The authorized technician also told me that he had not seen a stand break like this before. In a written message, he told me they had dropped televisions on their stands before and havent seen one break like that. I provided this message to LG.
LG ultimately closed the safety case. Their explanation focused primarily on the fact that the television panel had physical damage and that physical damage is not considered a manufacturing defect.
I do not dispute that the television was physically damaged when it fell. My concern has always been why the stand itself broke.
I also disputed wording in LGs service record stating that I bumped the television and caused the damage. I have consistently explained what happened. My shirt caught the television as I walked past it, the television wobbled, the stand broke, and the television fell.
I asked LG to explain whether they had determined why the stand broke and whether the authorized technicians observations were considered when they closed the safety case. I also pointed out that LGs own service documentation specifically says the base failed or broke and caused the television to fall unexpectedly.
LG did not provide a substantive response to those questions.
I still have the television, the broken stand and all of the fractured components. I also have photographs and video of the television and broken stand, LGs service documentation, my correspondence with LG, and written communication from the authorized technician.

I am reporting this because I believe the failure of a television stand supporting a television of this size deserves to be documented and reviewed as a potential safety issue. I would also like CPSC to determine whether similar failures involving this model or stand have been reported.

No one hurt Made Jun 26, 2026, sent to the company Jul 1, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 16, 2026
The product, in the report: 77” OLED LG TV Model OLED77C5AUA Serial# 505RMPG0K720 . Not sure if after G is a zero or an O.. There is also a number on the side of the label OLED77C5AUA.DUSQLJR
I am filing a complaint regarding LG Electronics USA, Inc. for a structural failure of a television that resulted in property damage.
The TV was installed properly and remained mounted in the same location since purchase (11/02/2025). The wall mount remained securely attached to the wall at all times. However, the TV detached from the mount due to failure at the mounting interface on the back of the television.
One of the four mounting points on the TV bent and failed, causing the TV to detach and fall. This resulted in the screen shattering and damage to a table located underneath the installation area.
I contacted LG warranty support and the case was escalated to a Presidential Liaison. Without engineering review or inspection of the failed component, LG concluded the issue was a mounting installation problem despite the wall mount remaining intact on the wall. I requested engineering escalation and a written denial explaining the technical basis for their decision. This request was refused, and the representative ended the call and closed the case without further review.
I am requesting:
Formal engineering review of the mounting failure point Written explanation of the denial decision Replacement or reimbursement for the defective unit and related property damage

No one hurt Made Feb 27, 2026, sent to the company Mar 3, 2026, published by CPSC Mar 17, 2026
The product, in the report: LG OLED 55B6P-U.BUSZLJR SERIAL #612RMVB4A127 BUILD DATE DECEMBER 2016 FACTORY ID: LZ
On February 20th, 2026 i powered our LGOLED55B6P television on for the news as i was getting into bed. Not even 1-2 mins later my wife heard a pop sound and the TV went black and then started to smoke profusely out of the top of the panel. Before i could even get it unplugged it started to burn and i couldn’t even touch the tv to be able to move the tv outside so we would be out of immediate danger. Instead the whole house smelled like chemicals so bad that it was even in our clothes. When the set was finally able to be handled i removed it and placed it outside to finish cooling off and the smell inside our home dissapate. The reason my wife heard the pop and i did not is i am hearing impaired so i had already removed my hearing aids. I hate to fathom what would have occured had it just been me or my wife was asleep. I shouldn’t have to worry about an appliance catching fire especially at the very least under normal use. (the tv ran at maximum energy savings and at minimum brightness for its entire life) Perhaps Tv’s and appliances need an “expiration date” or “best if used before this date” stickers to indicate when an appliance becomes a higher risk to own. Regardless this was a “thermal”event that occured and LG is well aware of the panel and power board failures stemming from 2016-2019 model televisions that prompted a massive recall. This set internals are nearly or are identical to those that were in the recall.I would sincerely hope that LG would and will put safety over everythng with as big as name as they are in the market. To date all i have been offered is a repair order for a burned up panel with no indication as to who would be footing the bill. Also i have indicated to them that i am no longer comfortable with having that set as it has already spontaneously combusted once. I did speak with [REDACTED] from Lg and she informed me that regardless that the TV is out of warranty and these things do happen and the only thing we can offer you is for you to find a local tv repair yourself and have it looked at my expense. I explained that i didn’t think that i should have to worry about a tv catching fire and she said unfortunately these things do happen and we don’t know what happened leading up to that point. I already explained that i had just turned the tv on when it started to burn but i guess that means nothing to LG when it comes to fire safety with there Television sets , specifically OLED sets that have had major issues from 2016-2019. Being hearing impaired this is a serious issue and anyone that is hearing impaired or disabled should steer clear of LG OLED televisions. Its a shame really as it was a good tv otherwise. Too bad they won’t stand behind such a serious defect because its out of warranty.

No one hurt Made Dec 8, 2023, sent to the company Dec 13, 2023, published by CPSC Dec 28, 2023
The product, in the report: LG TV Model# 55LJ550M : Full HD 1080p Smart LED TV - 55” Class (54.6” Diagonal) : Serial# 709RMRHEN814 : Has a black plastic casing around the TV screen.
Hello, this is regarding the sudden breakage of both legs on a LG TV Model 55LJ550M we bought for my mom for her birthday back on 4/20/2018. My mom is now 86 years old living alone who loved watching her soccer games on her nice big TV. But a few nights ago, she awoke to a sudden loud noise like something heavy had fallen in the living room. When she got up to see what had happened, she saw her TV had fallen over onto the coffee table. The front sections of both of the TV’s left/right legs had suddenly broken apart causing it to tip over and hit the coffee table hard enough to cause damage to the screen and the top of the casing. Needless to say, the TV is no longer functioning. When I went over to her house to see what had happened, I was really surprised that the TV legs were only plastic with no steel reinforcement. This was an accident waiting to happen since it appears the cheaply made all-plastic TV legs can only handle the weight of the TV for only so long. In this case about 5 years. This should not have happened, especially when my elderly mother could have been hit by the TV as it fell and caused her harm.

The product, in the report: LG 55” 4K LCD Television
LG 55” 4k TV has cracked weak legs and had to be catched as it fell. Plastic appeared to have many stress fractures and took no effort to snap when adjusting cables on the TV. No injuries thankfully it was caught as it was falling from the fireplace mantle in family room and needed others to disconnect the tv before placing on the floor. Multiple people were in the home due to Thanksgiving and in the room where the device was used. Small children were also playing in the room which is why this is being reported as a hazard. TV was sitting securely for 3 years on the provided legs prior to the incident. Manufactured Nov 2017 from Mexico. Model 55UJ6300-UA.BUSYLOR

While watching TV I smelled burning plastic, upon investigation I noticed the back panel of my LG HDTV had melted and was burnt. I contacted LG about the issue as I discovered they had listed my TV’s model (OLED65C7P) for a recall due to faulty power supplies:
[REDACTED] [REDACTED]
They had an independent certified repair tech ([REDACTED]) come to investigate and document the case . The tech came out with parts in hand to repair the TV, however once he opened it and saw the damage (while on a video call with LG) he said he would need to replace more components then what he had on hand. LG was going to cover the cost of the repair initially however they then seemingly changed their mind due to the extra parts needed (a new screen) and the tech left without replacing anything. The tech refused to complete the repair due to fire safety concerns, unless all affected components were replaced as he didn’t want any liability (the screen is still working). I’ve since been on multiple support calls with LG [REDACTED].
The TV has only ever been used as intended and was always connected to a APC UPS battery backup getting clean power, so the problem didn’t occur from a power surge or brown out. I have also found multiple other reports of this issue online in forms with some people experiencing their TV catching on fire.

The product, in the report: LG UHD LED 65” TV (model number 65UJ6300)
We own an LG UHD LED TV 65” (model number 65UJ6300). After owning this TV for approximately four years, on the night of July 17, 2021, the plastic TV leg stands holding the TV up snapped in half and the TV toppled over, which cracked the screen. The TV was on, but no one was near the TV. The TV screen is completely ruined and the TV is no longer functional. This is an extremely dangerous design flaw for this TV. The plastic pieces are not durable enough to hold the TV up and this is a very serious issue that should be addressed. I have two small children at home, who were luckily asleep when this occurred. The TV is extremely heavy and could have easily severely injured or even killed someone when it toppled over with no warning when the leg stands snapped in half.

The product, in the report: LG television model 49SK8000PUA.
I received an LG television for Christmas in 2019, Model 49SK8000PUA. We used the manufacturer’s stand which came with the TV and placed it on our entertainment center. On April 14, 2021, after about 15 months of use in the manufacturer’s stand, I was sitting in my living room, my 2 year old daughter playing on the floor in front of me, and the TV fell forward off the entertainment center onto her. Had she been 12 inches to her left, she likely would have been severely injured or even killed- as it was, she only got a hit to the side of her head. The TV stand had failed, catastrophically. The screws holding the TV to the stand had stripped, leaving the entire weight of the TV on a thin plastic sheath. The sheath gave out, and nearly killed my child. I have had 8 conversations with LG about this over the past month and they refuse to recognize any safety issue- they are claiming that I stripped the screws by overtightening when I installed it. First- I didn’t. I tightened until snug, by hand. Second, if I had stripped them a year ago when I installed, how has it been standing for the past year? Third- let’s play like I did in fact overtighten the screws. Is that not still a safety issue? It seems to me a huge safety issue, if by an easy mistake of wanting to secure your TV to the stand tightly, the entire thing can fail and potentially hurt or kill someone.

The product, in the report: LG Flat screen 65” 4k television Model 65SJ9500
I am a safety engineer. 40 years in the gas industry. 30 years at [REDACTED]. I have credentials. My LG television ( Model 65SJ9500, S/N 801RMXX8V314) is a fire and safety hazard. on the night of October 11th, the screen and several associated sheets of flexible plastic fell apart and came crashing forward. The frame remained attached to the wall. This is a warrantable defect of materials and workmanship. These televisions are commonly mounted above the mantle and fireplace. Candles and combustible decorations are commonly placed there on the hearth, as we had. If the screen would have detached and fallen forward while lit candles were burning, and or a child was watching the television, the Television could easily cause serious harm to a child and or start a fire. LG has refused to take action and refused to honor the warranty. I am frustrated and I believe that this safety issue should be brought to the attention of the CPSC before a child is hurt or a home catches fire. Thank you [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: 65” Television with stand (with 2 legs on each end)
This TV has 2 legs on each end. Two of the 4 leg supports extends in front of the TV and the other 2 extend behind the TV and they create a wide “V” shape on each end. The TV was sitting on a large wooden stand and had approximately 6” of extra space, beyond the legs, on each side.
Approximately 10 days ago, the TV fell on its own and landed on the floor. No one was near the TV when it happened. No one was injured. The TV stand was not made of solid wood, so it sustained damage to the point that it is pressed inward where the TV hit it.
The consumer called the manufacturer. She was told that a technician would be sent out.
11/29/2020: A local technician came out and took pictures of the TV and damage. The technician said he would pass the information on to LG.
11/30/2020: A manufacturer’s rep. called the consumer and said that there was no way that the TV could have fallen in that manner and they were not going to do anything about it.
The consumer said that her husband screwed the legs in when it was purchased and they had never experienced any problems in the past.

This tv which we bought new at Best Buy in Feb. 2020 caught fire spontaneously today. The TV was off and it was fortunate we were home. We smelled smoke and upon investigating we found the tv smoking. We unplugged it and the screen was melting (as shown). We had a blanket that we covered the tv and were able to put out the fire. However the tv is a total loss. It was 2 months old. I am contacting the CPSC and filing a complain with the NJ dept consumer affairs.

The product, in the report: LG 55UJ6300 4K Smart TV
I have an LG 55UJ6300 TV which without warning when no one was in the room fell off its dedicated TV stand. Fortunately no one was in front of the TV. As my small granddaughters play in the area in front of the TV this could have been a disaster. The feet of the TV are at both ends of the TV and are in the form of an arch. They are of very flimsy plastic material and the portion of the front of the arch on both (feet) sides literally broke off thus causing the TV to fall forward and off the TV stand. There may even be a possible danger such as a fire hazard as the electric wires were stretched as they supported the TV as it hit the ground.

Fire investigation. A fire occurred on 8-17-18. The area of origin was determined to be the lower right side of a LG Plasma TV. The TV had been turned off approximately 10 minutes prior to the fire occurring. My investigation found the origin to be at the stated location in which the owner said the power and other control buttons were located on the unit. The fire damage involved the TV itself and the wooden cabinet the TV was setting on. All other sources of ignition were ruled out. The residence was occupied at the time of the fire; the TV had been in use during the evening hours just prior to the fire occurrence. One of the residents turned the unit off and went to a third floor bedroom. Approximately 10 minutes later his girlfriend came downstairs to get a drink and discovered the fire. As a result of the fire, the male adult occupant suffered minor smoke inhalation; he refused EMS but was coughing substantially.

The product, in the report: 55 inch curved LG OLED TV.
Hello. I have an LG 55 inch curved OLED TV I bought about 2-3 years ago from Best Buy. I have used the TV with out incident since I bought it--until today. I had been watching the TV for about 3 hours this morning when all of a sudden it made a large pop, the screen went black, and smoke started coming out of the top and sparks were shooting out the bottom. As I was walking toward it to cut the power it made another large pop, with more smoke out the top and a lot more sparks coming out the bottom. I cut the power and the sparks stopped. The smoke continued for a few minutes after the power was cut, and the room quickly filled with a nasty smell.
I have saved the TV in a storage closet in case anyone wants to examine it. This seems to me to be an extremely dangerous situation, and I am lucky that the sparks coming out the bottom did not start a fire.
I can be reached at [REDACTED] or at my work phone of [REDACTED], home phone of [REDACTED] or my cell phone of [REDACTED].

The product, in the report: 37” LG LED television (37LV3500); black
The tv (LG LED) was turned on and being watched when a popping sound occurred, followed by several more popping sounds (actually mistaken initially as broadcast audio). Then smoke began flowing from the top vents as well as other areas of the tv casing. The picture never failed; the tv was remotely turned off, unplugged and removed to outdoors. The smoke was adequate enough to set off a nearby fire detector, but there were never any visible flames. No one was injured, and no property was damaged.

My LG TV 50pk950 was on fire this morning. As I plugged in my TV, I heard a sparkling noise, the next thing I knew I saw fire coming out from the back of the TV to the cable. I immediately unplugged it and put out the fire. I contacted LG technical support, who told me because my warranty expiries , I must contact local electronic repair companies. They referred me to several local repair shops, who told me that I must pay 100 dollars labor fee, and they also need LG’s authorization to investigate. PS: the LG manager I spoke on the phone was rude and impatient.

Inside of the TV caught on fire while being used last night. Very lucky my daughter was in her room watching and not asleep or else could have been catastrophic. It could not have been the outlet, because the TV was connected to a surge protection power strip. The DVD player had no problems, nor a phone that was charging.
