The product, in the report: Insignia 43” Class F30 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV
On September 28, 2026, my Insignia television suddenly malfunctioned and began smoking heavily. The smoke was actively pouring directly out of the back vents of the unit. There was no external damage, electrical surge, or physical misuse of the product prior to this event. The failure occurred entirely internally during normal operation. Recognizing an immediate fire hazard, I immediately unplugged the television and moved the smoking unit completely out of the living area. That evening, due to inhaling the dense chemical fumes emitted by the device, I experienced physical symptoms including persistent headaches and severe nausea. I immediately contacted Best Buy support to report the hazardous failure. I was eventually put in touch with their executive response team and their internal Product Safety Department. I provided them with a detailed description of the event, photos showing the vents where the smoke escaped, and explicitly stated that I was willing to surrender the physical television to them so their engineering teams could open the chassis, inspect the components, and determine the root cause of the failure. After a week of silence, the Best Buy Product Safety Team (Internal Back Office Team) responded via email stating that they have “deemed this as a safe product failure” and refused to inspect the unit or offer any remedy solely because the product is outside of its manufacture warranty period. A television failure that fills a household room with toxic chemical smoke and causes physical illness (headaches and nausea) is a severe safety hazard, not a “safe product failure.” Best Buy is actively refusing to retrieve or investigate a potentially systemic fire and toxic fume hazard in their proprietary Insignia product line under the guise of an expired warranty. The television is currently being held safely away from the living spaces pending regulatory review.

The product, in the report: INSIGNIA 24-inch Class F20 Series Smart HD 720p Fire TV (NS-24DF310NA21, 2020 Model) Tv remote
I purchased an insignia fire stick tv from Best Buy through Amazon and the remote keeps going through batteries faster and faster. Found many complaints after this unsafe incident. I put batteries in they went dead overnight put new ones in remote not working. Set it down and after a few minutes remote started smoking, batteries nearly burnt me when I took them out. I opened remote and can’t find anything on circuit board burnt but the plastic housing is melted in two places. There is a white piece with what looks like a Lens facing the back of the remote on the circuit board. When you put the batteries in it this piece gets hot enough to instantly burn you. I’m glad I didn’t switch to lithium batteries seeing how much more volatile they can be when over heated compared to alkaline batteries. This remote could have burnt my house down.

Consumer Description
A FIRE HAZARD caused when the Insignia TV started smoking and was very hot. If my wife and son-in-law had not been near the TV and immediately unplugged and removed from the wall area, a fire could have erupted. It was only a $150 TV and am not looking for refund. My concern is the safety issue. I contacted the Insignia Customer Service line 3 times and they brushed it off. I was instructed by Insignia to take back to Best Buy for repair. They confirmed that the TV started to get hot with a smoke odor. Best Buy also noted that the area near the power source appeared to have warped likely due to the heat generated. I called Insignia and they were able to read the report and only said that the manufacturer warranty had expired the 24th of May(l year). They did not see the danger that could have occurred. The Model# is NS- 32DF310NA19 . The MFG Date is October 2020

The television was functioning normally for about an hour before I heard a loud pop. Immediately after, the screen went dark but for a flame inside the tv behind the screen and drops that were on fire dropping towards the bottom of the screen. The flame looked to be in the middle slightly to the right of the display while the flaming drops were falling to what seemed the very edge of the Back panel. The flame inside kept growing until I rushed to shut it off by disconnecting the power supply from the display input. By then, the smoke began to fill the room and spread throughout the house. My wife and I opened a window near the tv after making sure the fire was extinguished and stepped outside to allow ventilation of our home. The smell was very much like burning plastic from electronics to me and my wife. It was so overwhelming that we had to remain outside for about an hour. The tv has not been connected to power after the incident.

The product, in the report: 46” flat panel television
I am reporting a hazardous incident with an Insignia brand television. This tv set was purchased in 2012 and has been used in my living room ever since.
Last week, while in use, the tv made a loud popping sound, and then began smoking. The set was then unplugged from the wall and we discovered that a hole has actually melted in the back of it.
If no one had been in the room at the time, I believe that this could easily have started a fire.
I have also notified Insignia Products about this.

The product, in the report: TV
Caller stated that his TV overheated and the plastic cover to the unit melted. He stated that he had ongoing problems with the TV turning on and off for awhile. Approximately 2 weeks ago he pulled it off the wall mount and noticed that the screw and plastic area on the rear of the TV had melted. He feels that the female part of the socket was touching the circuit board which caused this incident.
(2/18/15)The manufacturer was contacted and he was advised that someone would contact him in a few days. He is concerned that this TV is a fire hazard and should be reported before someone has a house fire.

No one hurt Made Sep 16, 2014, sent to the company Sep 24, 2014, published by CPSC Oct 8, 2014
The product, in the report: Television
I was still sleeping but my husband awoke and noticed an unusual odor. He searched our room looking for what could be causing the smell he described as the scent of “something burning.” After following the smell my husband located the source--the television. He saw smoke emanating from the A/C adaptor of the television and quickly snatched the power cord from wall outlet. The television was turned off at the time of the incident and the A/C adaptor was plugged directly into the wall outlet. The cable box connected to the television and sharing the same wall outlet was just fine, and there was no damage to the wall outlet. Thankfully there was no damage to anything in our home or the television itself; only the A/C adaptor was melted. The odor just lingered for a couple of days then dissipated. It terrifies me to think what may have happened had my husband not awakened in time--my children and I were still sleeping.
I contacted Insignia the same day and explained everything that happend to the representative and was provided with a ticket number and the promise that someone would follow up with me. By September 4, 2014 no one contacted me so I called back to customer service. The representative contacted the “Escalations Department” directly and finally someone named [REDACTED] sent me an e-mail requesting a description of the incident--for the second time. I sent the requested information on September 7, 2014. By September 15, 2014 no one responded to my e-mail, so I called customer service again. The representative contacted the “Escalations Department” directly (again) and I was told that someone would contact me within 2 days. On September 16, 2014 I received an e-mail requesting pictures of the melted A/C adapter--which I sent within minutes of receiving the e-mail. It is almost a month later and Insignia has yet to provide any meaningful response/resolution to the incident. It seems that Insignia does not care how dangerous their products are and how their customers are affected.

I had a Best Buy/Insignia 32” TV catch fire and blow white smoke out the back of it. Luckily I caught it and it did not burn my home down. Best Buy refused to do anything about the flaming tv. Basically implied that I lied about it. Not happy with them at all.
