The product, in the report: It is an Element Brand Tv the model is ELFW4017BF

Element TV Model ELFW4017BF I tried to get help and answer from compny and they refuse to take accountability or take it seriously. I purchased Element TV from Walmart, and yesterday it fell off the wall mount in my babys nursery after the threaded inserts on the back of the TV broke off from the plastic backplate. The backplate stayed attached to the mount while the TV itself crashed to the floor, breaking a piece of furniture underneath. Thankfully, my baby was not hurt but this could have been a very serious accident. I contacted Element directly, but they refused to take responsibility, saying that physical damage voids the warranty. However, this was not accidental damage the TVs mounting area structurally failed on its own, which is a product defect and a major safety concern. I can provide photos of the damage, the mounting setup, and the broken backplate.

The product, in the report: Element 32” TV Model FLX3211B

32” Element TV Model FLX3211B Caught fire and hissed like bacon on a skillet. The video went black and you could still hear the sound of the program from the Today Show. I quickly turn of the surge protector. If I wasn’t in the room when it occurred it could have been much worse. Bedroom is left with the smell of smoke from the fire. Called the manufacturer to report the incident. Sounded like the call center was from India. They told me the set was out of it’s warranty. I told them I wasn’t concerned about that, I wanted to report he fire in case it has happened to other Element customers to see if it was an on going problem or if there had been a recall. She didn’t want to hear it. That’s the last time I buy any product from them. I consider Elements products hazardous once going online to find that this has happened before with the same Element 32” model. House left with smell of smoke from the fire.

The product, in the report: 46” Full HD Digital LCD TV, Model No. ELDFT465J Purchased 5/25/12 at Target, Wareham MA

    Dear [REDACTED]

The above-referenced 46” HDTV was working fine for 26 months, until today, when we returned home from work to find the 45” TV upside-down on the floor of our den!! No one was home and the dog was outside, thank God! This television had sat firmly, level and safely for over two years. Furthermore, no one touched or moved the TV regularly or recently, as all necessary controls were on the remote controller.

Our inspection of today’s damaged parts revealed the large hole in the screen (from hitting a sub-woofer which was on the floor below) and - most disturbing- the split or break in the plastic neck (post, column) connecting the base to the television.

Images of this break clean through the plastic neck are attached.

We have heard of owners not being cautious enough with these heavy TV’s ... not placing or bracing the large, heavy units on sturdy tables or shelves, or mounting them where children play and can touch them. But, this is not the case here! Our TV sat on an Immobile cabinet, built into a former closet There it remained for twenty-six months, and we have no children.

This 46” ELEMENT TV just, out of the blue, gave way at the neck, with no one home, all on Its own!! Luckily, it did not SNAP and fall on a visiting grandchild or indoor pet today! The weight of it COULD EASILY HAVE KILLED A CHILD OR A PET.

Today, we called to report the defect and total damage of our more two-year old TV to ELEMENT ELECTRONICS CORP. We were given, •Sorry for the inconvenience,” and that was that.

It is appalling that the manufacturer’s customer service representative was so cavalier when confronted with our story of luckily avoiding serious injury due to an obvious and very significant fault in manufacture, design or technology of their product.

You are urged to act in good faith to pass along THIS VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT in the above-named product by NOTIFY1NG ALL OF THE OWNERS and to work with your designers, tech teams, marketing and sales departments, and customer support representatives regarding this danger, and to rectify the loss and threat we experienced.

In all our good conscience, our family, friends, and any appropriate agency or office will be warned of this product.

If there is anything you suggest further for us to do, please do not hesitate to contact us!

    Sincerely, [REDACTED] [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Element Electronics Model Number FLX-3210 - 32 Inch Flat Screen TV

My Element Electronics Television started on fire while in operation. If I had not been present at the time of this occurence, it would have likely burned my house down.

The model number of the TV is FLX-3210

A representative of Element, [REDACTED], has been notified and a series of emails exchanged since reported to him in November. A web search for similar incidents with Element and other brands made by the same manufacturer has found several similar occurences since these televisions were introduced in 2007.

I have also consulted with UL, since this TV carries a UL label, and discovered that Element has used the UL logo with proper licensing or testing in the recent past

These televisions are dangerous and I feel need to be investigated

I still have the TV in my possession

The product, in the report: 32 inch flat screen tv

Our Element Electronics TV started on fire in November 2012. We contacted the company and have received nothing but a run around. It almost burned our house down.

We also contacted UL Labs and they stated that Element had us the UL label/logo on its products without ever performing any testing through UL. Element was served a cease and desist letter from UL as a result.

Element has been unresponsive to this incident

The product, in the report: 32” Element Flat Screen HDTV

My 32” Element Flat screen Television started hissing, and then smoke began to rise out of the back of the television. I jumped up to unplug it to prevent a fire, and saw sparks inside the television, before I could unplug the television it pooped almost like a small explosion and the sparks went out for a second but started again smaller. Then I finally managed to unplug the set, at which point the sparks stopped. The back of the set was very warm for a long time about twenty minutes, but the smoke stopped. We considered calling the fire department, but at this point the situation was under control. Had we been asleep or unable to unplug the television as fast as we did for some reason this situation could have turned out very differently than it did, and people could have died.
