The product, in the report: This is a 32 inch flat screen, free standing television set.

I turned on the television to watch a DVD. It went fine for a few moments but then the picture went out. I approached the television set to adjust the cables, but by the time I got to the television there was a sizzling sound and smoke came billowing, not seeping, but billowing out the back. I saw a flame or sparks inside the tv so I quickly unplugged and then got the fire extinguisher.

I’m just glad it was me and not my 6 or 8 year old who was watching or else someone could have really gotten hurt.

The product, in the report: 46 inch Apex Television Model 4D688 Serial 33561120366609607

A 46 inch APEX television on it’s provided stand on an entertainment center crashed to the floor after hitting other electronics [REDACTED], cable box, [REDACTED]. After examining the television it was determined that the connector from the television to the stand broke completely in half. At the time, no one was injured, however had anyone human or animal been near the t.v .at the time of the incident could have been severely injured. Researching has provided other incidents of this occurring, but I have not found any recalls listed for this problem.

I brought a Apex HDTV LCD, 46’, model LD4688, on Black Friday of 2010. On the afternoon of September 4, 2013, I came home to find the television fallen to the floor along with the entertainment system that it was on. The plastic support that connected the television tot the base had broken, and the weight of the television with all the cables connected to it, brought down the entertainment system. The screen of the television is cracked, the entertainment center and a couple of the HD cables were damaged. If someone had been close to the television during the incident, they probably would have been injured.

The product, in the report: This is a 46 inch LCD TV with a black frame. Model LD4688

I bought a 46 inch Apex TV LD4688 in November of 2010. On Friday September 15, 2012 my TV fell to the floor. The TV was sitting on a TV stand. After looking at it I noticed the pedestal had broke, causing the TV to fall. Had an animal or a child been near this they could have been hurt. I turned on the TV and noticed the picture was gone, showing only colored lines. I called Apex and was told that it is no longer under warranty. I feel this is a manufacture defect and should be taken care of. Products like this are unsafe and should be recalled for the safety of the consumer. Also I now have to purchase a new TV after only having this TV for only 22 months.

The product, in the report: Apex 46-inch 1080p LCD television

In January of this year I purchased a 46-inch Apex brand television. I have been very pleased with the television for the most part due to the relatively low price, however the adage still stands that if it seems too good to be true, it usually is. Last night in August of the same year of purchase I came home to a site that was initially very confusing. My television that seemed so great for the last 6 months was lying on the floor with a broken screen and stand. What had happened to my television was that the plastic stand that was built into the bottom of the tv had snapped causing the television to careen forward flipping over itself and knocking the screen directly into the front corners of the furniture I had set the television on. Upon closer inspection the inside of the stand contains a very cheaply made cylindrical post where all the screws are supposed to gain hold. This post was not only broken in half, but it was broken into no less than 10 pieces. This broken stand post is what caused the tv to fall. I want to stress that the the stand that broke was not a piece of furniture I set the television on, but the included plastic stand itself. I was mostly relieved that there were no children in front of the tv at the time it fell because the 50+ pound television would have caused serious injuries to any child it fell on. Although the price of these television sets may be enticing, I insist that nobody with young children should ever purchase an Apex tv. My girlfriend and I are currently trying to work with the Apex customer service for a refund of our money because the 1-year warranty has not yet run out, however they are trying to pull every stop in order make it seem as though what happened was our fault and not covered by the warranty. I saw on this website that at least one other person has reported the same problem. If I ever do get my refund I will most definitely spend a few extra bucks and get a [REDACTED] for safety reasons. If I don’t get a refund unfortunately my budgeted expenses currently will not allow me to replace it for a long time.

The product, in the report: Apex 46” Flat Screen TV Model LD4688

On July 3, 2012 while siting in my dining room my wife and I heard a loud crashing noise in the living room .Please be advised that there are no walls between these rooms so we could see into the living room. What we saw completely surprised us our 46” Apex flat screen TV had fallen over. This TV Apex model LD4688 had been in the same place since we purchased it over 18 months ago. On inspection I found the base which came with the TV had failed. I called the company and was told to send them pictures of the TV and stand with a copy of the recept which I did. The following day I received a call back from the company and was told my set was out of warranty and I could purchase a new stand from them for $15.99 plus $10.00 shipping and handling. My reply was ‘why would I want to buy a new stand from you when the old one just failed. The response they gave me I found very disturbing I was told “they had a problem with the other stand but were now making the new ones out of a different material’. We were lucky no one was near the TV when it fell so no one was injured but had our grand children been here it could have been a different story.I’m sure Target sold thousands of these TVs and the manufacturer knowing of this defect should have at least notified the current owners of the problem before serious injury or even death occurs. As for us will just count our blessing but I just can not belive that Target and Apex could be aware of this problem and choose to ignore it

I purchased the APEX model LD4688 46” television on black Friday in 2010. I was very pleased with this product, great picture! On February 8th of this year, we were awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of this television crashing to the floor. The support that connected the TV to the base snapped in half resulting in the TV falling to the floor taking the blue-ray player and cable box with it. After passing the buck by both Target and APEX, I was given contact information for KCPI (http://www.kcpi.us/) apparently the company responsible for the product. Though the number listed on their website does not work, I was able to reach them via email (cp@kcpi.com). This was their response “We are sorry this happend, in order for our company to cover the damage we do request for the item to be under warranty, unfortunetly your tv warranty has expire therefore we can not replace it, if you would like a replacement for this unit there will be a fee.” Though I am very upset about the loss of the TV AND blue-ray player, I consider us to lucky in that no one was injured. The issue here is product safety due to poor product design. Others who own this model of television may not be as fortunate. Had this 59 pound television fallen on a small child, serious injury would have resulted. Below is the contact information for the company.
