The product, in the report: ttps://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=21711 Monoprice MP Select Mini 3D Printer V2, Black Product # 21711
I recieved a Monoprice Monoprice MP Select Mini 3D Printer V2, Black Product # 21711 found at https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=21711 as a gift for Christmas 2018. After approximately a month of use the device began to emit a rubber/plastic burning smell and a small amount of smoke. I powered the device down and found that wires from the hot bed, the heated metal plate that the printer prints onto, had worn through and shorted out due to being zip tied in place too tightly by the manufacturer with no strain relief. As a result of this the onboard computer died and the heat bed no longer heats. I am concerned that if I had not powered down the device when I did the insulation on the wire could have caught fire. Monoprice customer service did not seem interested in my problem as they do not honor warranties on gifted items.

No one hurt Made Jul 2, 2018, sent to the company Aug 8, 2018, published by CPSC Aug 22, 2018
The product, in the report: 3d Printer
I purchased a Monoprice 3D Printer model Maker Select V2 on December 27, 2017. On June 29, 2018 I started to used the machine as usual. After the printer was plugged in and powered ON, it immediately produced a burning smell that was not normal. While it was on standby for about 1 minute, the smell became stronger and quickly produced a fire flame inside of the control box. Fortunately, I was around to observe the incident and immediately unplugged the printer. Then I quickly moved the unit to a safe location until the fire flame subsided. I quickly contacted Monoprice and reported the incident. They responded but informed me that they only warranty their 3D printers 90 days,. I would think that they would be at least be interested in getting the machine back so they can investigate the cause of the incident. They basically informed me that they will not do anything about it. So I began to research and it turns out that this type of fire incident is very common with this model. Many have reported similar FIRE incident issues especially from consumers that purchased from Amazon.com

Hurt, no treatment Made Jan 5, 2017, sent to the company Jan 13, 2017, published by CPSC Jan 31, 2017
The product, in the report: 3D Printer Monoprice Maker Select 3D Printer v2 13860 re-brand of [REDACTED]
The printer is a Maker Select 3D Printer v2 13860
While waiting for pre-heat setting on the printer to complete for an ABS print, the printer started smoking and producing a visible flame from inside the control box. I had to quickly remove the power cord from the wall as the flame was growing in intensity and the room was starting to fill with smoke. I proceeded to post a warning in an internet group about the issue and had another member state that the same thing happened to them just before my post. After doing more research I have found that this printer is a rebrand of the [REDACTED] which has had a recall in the past for a fire hazard. It also appears that the newest version of this printer the [REDACTED] also has a recall because of a fire hazard. As more information was posted to the group is appears that [REDACTED] has not programmed the correct settings into the firmware of the printer to keep this issue from happening as well as not having the proper size connectors for wiring inside of the control box. If this is common knowledge, why has [REDACTED] not addressed these safety hazards? I have worked in the electronics industry for 25 years and there is no reason for modern equipment to get to point of a visible fire. Proper settings and use of proper sized components should make a failure a non-event with only localized damage. However when a failure allows a full on fire, it is a major concern and should be addressed by the manufacturer before someone is hurt, killed or their house burns down.
