Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: GPX CD Boombox Model number BC111W. It’s white and gray in color.

I purchased a GPX CD Boombox model BC111W on 3-29-11 as a gift for my daughter’s birthday. We starting using the boombox in her bedroom on a dresser in late April. One week later I discovered that the product was overheating. The four black rubber feet on the bottom of the boombox had partially melted leaving four black marks on the dresser. There were also brown scorch marks on the dresser top where the boombox was placed. I contacted the manufacturer on 9-8-11 and was given a response on 9-14-11 that this was a normal occurrence and there was nothing that they would do to fix the damage to the dresser. The damage is so severe that I will need to have the dresser top refinished. The dresser was new. It was purchased in January 2011. I am concerned that this product is a fire hazard.
