The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: VAIO SX14 Laptop. Color black. Dimensions 12.5” x 8.75” x 0.75”.

My 2020 VAIO SX14 laptop began overheating and became hot to a touch. I took it to an IT technician who diagnosed a burst Li-Ion battery and promptly disconnected it from the motherboard. He stated that the battery was about to burst and explode causing a fire and complete destruction of the laptop. I contacted the VAIO customer service by email. First they denied the existence of my laptop despite being provided a model number and serial number. In later email they refused assistance with repair and replacement of defective battery. Subsequent contacts to VAIO U.S. reps were ignored by the company.

The product, in the report: Vaio Z Canvas with 8gb ram and 256gb ssd.

The battery in my Vaio Z Canvas laptop is swelling and seems to be on the edge of exploding. The swelling battery keeps pushing the back of the screen and first a gap between the screen and the case shows up, then the gap is growing bigger too. Have found a lot of victims online who have the same thing happening on their Vaio Z Canvas. Have contacted the company and the company refused to replace the dangerous battery with even normal cost.

The product, in the report: Laptop

I have a SONY VAIO SVF13N17PXS and the bottom of it gets VERY hot and so does the connector. While unplugging the connector, I burnt thumb and forefinger and had to put ice on it.

The side of the other day while in bed sick, I had it on my stomach and smelled material getting hot, like an iron left sitting on material. I lifted it up and my stomach was all red.

I have a laser temperature sensor and I just decided to measure the following; I have pictures showing the temperatures) Bottom: 134 degrees Fahrenheit Side/connector: 127.5 Fahrenheit

The product, in the report: Black Vaio Sony Flip Screen PC Laptop

I purchased the Vaio Flip PC Laptop in April 2014, which was then recalled on July, 2014 due to fire hazards. I only recently learned about the recall that was announced last year. I’ve had many issues with this laptop, and paid 300 in repairs but continued to experience hinge and monitor issues. The main reason I am writing this report is because when I plugged in the power cord, there was a fire burst when the power cord came in contact with the power source. The fire burst also burnt my bed sheet that the laptop was placed on, and I received a minor but still painful burn on my left hand index finger. I believe my laptop should be returned to Sony, and I should also receive a refund for this hazardous device.

The product, in the report: Sony vaio laptop

I own a Sony Vaio VPCF11 series. I have been having problems with it getting very hot and the plug and battery pack getting very hot. I first ordered a new battery plug to see if that resolved the problem. It did not, it got hot again and melted at the plug in site. I took it to a repair service close to my home feeling it was a problem with the plug. He said he couldnt see anything wrong he could fix I would have to contact sony, he ordered a new plug for me. It happened again. I ordered another plug. All the while the computer continued to heat up and the fan ran constantly. I then started to research where to send the computer back to sony and saw there had been multiple recalls regarding my problems with the computer and the plug battery pack. I called sony. They said they would fix the problem and they sent me a box. I need to add that I downloaded the fix that the sony website suggested and it did not solve the problem. I sent the computer to sony they had it for 2 weeks and they just notified me by email that I have to pay for their repairs because someone opened up the unit and soldered something. I said well if I had known about the recall I would never had taken it and spent the amount of money I had spent trying to find the problem. They are giving me a hard time saying the heating was not a problem. I do not lie and I would not have sent my laptop away if it wasnt the issue the recall stated.

The product, in the report: Laptop Computer

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ750N laptop computer. This device discharges a constant, direct current, shock through the user when the touchpad and/or chassis. This discharge is enough to feel highly uncomfortable to a grown adult.

This device was returned at the request of Sony who in turn did not fix the issue after holding the device for three weeks longer than agreed upon. The device was under the direction of the San Diego office for this time and to address the issue I was provided a new AC/DC power adapter. This does not correct the problem. I filed a complaint with the BBB and was only offered a refund if I could provide a receipt. The device was purchased from the Sony Store the summer of 2008 and I, as well as Sony, am unable to locate an original receipt.

The product, in the report: Sony Vaio VPCEA24FM Blue

I purchased my Sony Vaio laptop in September 2010 from Best Buy. It worked great until about December, when the fan became unusually loud, and the device would heat up to temperatures that would cause burning if put in direct contact with the skin. I did research on the internet to find that the same device of a similar model had been recalled for this exact thing. I contacted Sony, and a technician call was set up. Three days later my hard drive failed. The fan was fixed, and then a few days later the harddrive was replaced.

Customer service abominations aside, since this replacement the following parts have been replaced: the motherboard, the wireless networking device, the cd drive, the RAM (twice) thermal module, the palm rest, the LCD rubber, the bevel for the lid and the audio cushion. My LCD panel is now going out in cells. Also, again the fan has become audible and the device causes burns when in contact with skin. At the current moment the underside of the device is reading 96 degrees Fahrenheit.
