The product, in the report: Toshiba Satellite L655 laptop
Toshiba Satellite L655 Laptop power supply was burning at the laptop. It melted the area of laptop where it plugs in. It actually started to burn a material runner it was sitting on. The laptop sits on the table in my study with other computer equipment. I kept smelling a burning smell so I started to unplug all the equipment and couldn’t find anything wrong decided to check the laptop and it was on fire leaving a small burn on the runner. I cannot locate any customer service center telephone number or email for Toshiba. My home would have caught on fire if I wasn’t here. I do feel Toshiba needs to recall this product and should replace my laptop. I can send pictures if needed.

The product, in the report: Toshiba Satellite LW55-C5280 S/No. YF023111S Part No. P8LRAU-00P008 with Toshiba Battery Pack Model N. PA5208U-1BRS Part No. P000645720
The device in the reference is a laptop computer: Toshiba Satellite L55W-C5280 S/No. YF023111S, Part No. PSLRAU-00P008, using a Toshiba battery pack: model PA52088U-1BRS, Part No. P000645720. Battery expanded over the last three or four months, causing a bulking deformity in the front panel, underneath the touchpad, causing even touchpad not to operate possibly due to lack of contact with underneath circuits; battery pack was also overheating, making use to be interrupted to allow for cooling down periods. Toshiba certified technicians expressed it is a faulty and potentially harmful battery pack, which was probably included in a recall issued by Toshiba in 2016.

No one hurt Made Sep 14, 2018, sent to the company Sep 24, 2018, published by CPSC Oct 9, 2018
The product, in the report: Power adapter for Toshiba L755 Computer. 4cm X 9cm x 2.5cm Rectangular Shaped AC Cord and plug on one end and power cord and plug (that is plugged into the computer)
Near home fire.
Caused by a: Toshiba L755 Computer power adapter.
This past week end my computer power adapter female plug (cord that is plugged into the computer) just caught on fire. The plug was not plugged into the computer but the power adapter was plugged into an ac outlet.
I was oiling a fan on another table when I smelled a burning odor. When I turned to where the odor was coming from, I noticed the female end of the power adapter was on fire. I put out the fire and went online to check if there was a recall on this power adapter from Toshiba. Toshiba claimed that my power adapter was not their recall list.
I would like to know if CPSC knows anything about this recall from Toshiba. If you do have information, please share with me the cause(s) of these recalls. Did anyone else have a problem similar to mine. Where can I send a picture of the burnt cord.
This cord was never abused. I has always been pulled out via plug and not at the wire. This plug was never bee stepped on, or have gotten wet and no obstruction was ever placed into the plug.
I contacted Toshiba but not satisfied with their response.

First aid Made Apr 24, 2018, sent to the company May 17, 2018, published by CPSC Jun 1, 2018
The product, in the report: Toshiba Portege R830-S8322 laptop, black, 13.3” screen
At 2:15AM the battery in my Toshiba Portege R830 laptop exploded. The noise woke my fiancee up and she woke me up. There was a roughly 6 inch stream of fire shooting out the back of the laptop. The laptop was upside down, unplugged form the charger, and it was in sleep mode. I had been using it previously up until about 12:15AM that night. Thankfully my fiancee had a full water bottle and was able to put the fire out with that. After the fire was out initially, it restarted again right away and needed to be doused with water a second time. After that, my fiancee threw it in the sink and started running cold water on it. About 3 minutes later we took it outside and it was smoking and sizzling for about an hour after that.
Our apartment was filled with smoke and reeked of burned plastic. We had property damage in addition to the value of the laptop. Our upstairs neighbor woke up and heard all the commotion and the fire alarm. We called the fire department and they came out but there wasn’t anything for them to do.
I had a cut on my finger from using the fire extinguisher (it was one of the Kiddie fire extinguishers that was recalled, and it did not work); my fiancee had minor singed hairs on her leg. Psychologically, we were extremely shaken: I had panic attacks that night for the first time in my life; we were nervous and easily scared for a few days after; even still today when I have a phone call about the case, I get stressed.
I contacted Toshiba about it promptly and they were initially receptive but eventually denied responsibility for the fire and stated that this is not one of the batteries affected (even though, based on the serial number and the recall notice 17-064, it is). I kept pushing them and now their insurance company is involved and the battery and my laptop are being inspected by Panasonic. I figure it has been about 6 weeks now since Panasonic received the battery and laptop and they have not provided an update yet.
Toshiba’s handling of this case has been dismal given that people’s safety is at risk.

The product, in the report: laptop Toshiba
I was not aware of the recall for Toshiba laptops due to faulty batteries. My laptop was 6 years old, still working OK except for the short battery life and for the occasional overheating while charging. I didn’t use it very often, so this time that I did, it needed system updates. I left it in my office with the power cord plugged in so it could run the updates and went home for the night, thinking it would simply power down or sleep once it was finished. I came in the next morning to find it toasted/melted with a mess around it indicating the battery had exploded. Luckily no one was injured and the fire self-extinguished with just the table and few unimportant items around it left damaged. I don’t want to think what would have happened if it had set furniture and other computers around it on fire!

The product, in the report: Toshiba Laptop C-55
My daughter has a Toshiba laptop (I was unaware of the recall, but it seems to be in the group of recalled items) and when she turned it on this afternoon it sparked and started smoking. No one was injured. She unplugged it
When I came home this evening I tried to take a look at it, but when I opened it it started to flame out the back. The flame stopped when I closed the laptop.

On February 10, 2017, shortly after turning on my Toshiba computer, I observed a flashing orange light with smoke and burnt plastic smell coming from upper right corner of laptop (above on/off button).! immediately turned off the computer and the flashing orange light ceased but the burnt plastic smell lingered. I subsequently used the computer periodically between February 10-23, 2017 without a repeat of the February 10 incident. On February 23, 20171 received a “Important Product Safety Notification” regarding my computer from Amazon (from whom I had originally purchased my computer), which stated in pertinent part as follows: “We have learned of a potential safety issue that may impact product(s) you purchased through the Amazon.com website: Toshiba Satellite CSS-C5241 15.61nch Laptop (Intel Core iS, 8GB, 1 TB HDD), Black” When I removed battery to get Serial Number (per instructions from recall notice), the fused plastic (from battery to computer) broke apart. It was obvious where the fire had melted the plastic on both the battery and the laptop. After battery reconnected to computer, the computer would not turn on. The serial number on the battery did not match those on the then existing recall notice.

The product, in the report: Toshiba Satellite C55-B5298 15.6-inch Laptop (2.1 GHz Intel Celeron N2830 Processor, 4GB DIMM, 500GB HDD, Windows 8.1) Jet Black
On several occasions, while using my computer, the laptop has become so hot that it literally left a burn mark on my leg. I have had to turn it off in the midst of work as the computer started heating up again. I have to unplug the computer each time I am done using as one morning I noticed that, even when turned off, the computer had heated papers sitting next to the computer and I smelled smoke.
The computer has turned itself off at times when the computer became very hot. It runs slower than it used to.

The product, in the report: Toshiba Satellite C55-B5300 16-Inch Laptop (Intel Celeron N2840 Processor, 4 GB DDR3L Memory, 500 GB HDD, DVD-SuperMulti Drive, Windows 8.1)
On 1/19/15, I purchased Toshiba Satellite C55-B5300 in Amazon. I then went to Haiti on a medical mission with the laptop 2/1/15. While I was in Haiti, the laptop caught on fire while it was being charged directly on the wall. It was my first time using a generator for electricity. I thought the fire was due to the generator, but now I realized it was because of the battery in the laptop. I want my laptop replaced with proper battery, but Toshiba is refusing asking me for pictures from 2015. I would have to go to Haiti to look for any pictures, but who took pictures when you are trying to prevent a house from burning down and for everyone to be safe? This is ridiculous.

The product, in the report: Toshiba laptop
I have a toshiba laptop and receive an email stating the recall had been expanded to include my laptop perhaps. I went through the information page and put in all my info. The website said my laptop wasn’t effected. I strongly disagree with this because my laptop does in fact burn me via the battery pack if I am not careful. It has left an actual burn mark before because it can get so hot. So I believe my battery pack needs to be added to this recall.

My mother owns a Toshiba satellite l505 laptop. It was plugged in overnight charging on a table and when she woke up the next morning the side and bottom of the laptop had melted leaving a hole in the casing of the computer. We have attempted to contact Toshiba about this problem but the only response we get is from a costumer service representative who says there has been no known problem with this computer and wants us to call the repair line and have the computer repaired. I have asked to report the problem but they seem to have no interested in recording or tracking problem defects. Had the computer not been charging on a marble surface I believe it would have started a fire. The laptop was fully functional and the fan was working.

On Friday, 10/25, finished using my Toshiba Laptop (model C55dt-A5307), unplugged it, and closed the cover. On Monday, 10/28, morning, I opened the laptop to find a hole, approximately 3 cm across burned in the plastic at the level of the lower aspect of the trackpad. This hole seemed to be melted from the inside out, as I could see the metal under the surface. There was no paper or other easily combustible materials nearby, but had there been, I suspect a fire may have resulted.

The product, in the report: Toshiba-Portege Laptop Computer Intel® Core i5 Processor, 13.3” Display, Blue) MODEL NAME: Portege MODEL NO: R835-P70 PART NO: PT324U-01J004 SERIAL NO: 7B037940H
I purchased a Toshiba-Portege Laptop Computer Model # R835-P70 (Intel® Core i5 Processor / 13.3” Display / Blue) on July 18, 2011 from BestBuy.com. The laptop computer frequently overheats above100 degree centigrade (212 Fahrenheit). When I keep my Toshiba laptop computer on my lap and use the computer my body hair on my thighs have got burned a few times starting from August 2011 and the last incident occurring in June 2013.
This problem can be easily replicated by opening & running a few computer applications at the same time. For an example if I open multiple tabs of [REDACTED] (or [REDACTED]), open [REDACTED] files, [REDACTED] and/or [REDACTED] files, I hear the loud noise of the computer fan working very fast and the computer gets extremely hot. If I continue to use my laptop while keeping it on my lab my body hear in my thighs gets burned due to the extreme operating temperature of the Toshiba Laptop. In such situations I have measured the temperatures of the (1) overall computer and (2) CPU core package using computer hardware monitor software such as [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] and the temperature was consistently around or greater than 100 degree centigrade (212 Fahrenheit).
I took my laptop the the local Best Buy store in August 2011 and the Best Buy Geek Squad technician told me that it was “normal” for Toshiba computers to get overheated and nothing could be done about it. I told him that I was getting burned and made a request to return the laptop but Best Buy refused to accept the return as I had passed the 14 day time period for return. Hence I was stuck with a unsafe Toshiba Laptop Computer.
I have updated the drivers and laptop BIOS software as recommend by Toshiba but the problem still persist. I read in online forums that the laptop overheating problem is a well known design & manufacturing problem with Toshiba Portege Laptops and Toshiba USA is fully aware of the problem. However Toshiba refuses recall these unsafe Toshiba Portege Laptops soley due to the financial cost of recalling an unsafe laptop computer. I also read online similar complaints by other consumers about the Toshiba Portege Laptops.

The product, in the report: Toshiba A665-3DV10 Satellite Laptop. 15 in screen and gray in color. 3D screen and 650GB Hard drive
On October 29, 2011 I purchased a Toshiba A665-3DV10 laptop from Best Buy. On September 18, 2012 I was using my laptop when it started to feel really hot. I removed the laptop and had redness on my upper thighs. Aprx. 10 minutes after that happened I received a notification that my Hard Drive was about to fail then the screen started to flicker on and off. Then my computer just stopped working. I took it back to place of purchase and was told the hard drive did malfunction also did the screen. On September 22,2012 I observed a post on the reviews for my laptop that it was recalled February 02,2011 due to a faulty Intel Sandy Bridge chip set. I was never notified of this recall and on day of purchase I was told it was a very good laptop. I feel this could of ended in a very bad situation if I left it unattended.

The product, in the report: Toshiba Satellite laptop, L505-S5988, black
Blister on thigh from Toshiba laptop, Satellite L505-S5988. Warning sticker on bottom that unit/base can become hot, but this seems exceedingly hot. It gets so hot, in fact, that it affects the laptop’s functioning. I fear for fire hazard if it can leave blisters on my skin after a relatively short period of time. I’ve asked Best Buy and Toshiba about this after seeing other complaints online and they say it’s not excessive. There’s an area on the left-hand side of the laptop as well, made of metal. Plastic protective covering is weakened from the heat of the metal underneath and easily break off. The metal tines underneath are extremely hot as well. Burns don’t occur upon touching the metal, but it’s hot enough to burn if contact with skin (and items?) would be prolonged at all.

The product, in the report: Toshiba Satelite L645D Laptop Computer
Toshiba Satelite L645D Laptop Computer Burn/Meltdown Incident
To Whom It May Concern:
I purchased a Toshiba Satelite L645D Laptop approximately December 2010. The warranty on my Toshiba Laptop will expire on December 8, 2011.
On Sunday, October 16, 2011, I was physically working on my Toshiba Laptop doing my homework when I noticed a “wave of heat” melting my keyboard from left to right. I immediately shut down the system and the system/keyboard stopped burning.
Normally when I use my Toshiba Laptop, it is used via the power cord; however, during this burning incident, I was using the laptop via the internal battery source.
When I began to research via the internet, consumers that may have had similar issues as mine with laptop fires/meltdowns; I noticed similar consumer complaints, recalls because of malfunctioning batteries, and fires when operating the units via battery power.
On October 20, 2011 I filed a complaint with [REDACTED] (Case Manager) at Toshiba’s Corporate Office (877) 421-7070; Toshiba Case Reference #[REDACTED].
An empty FedEx box was sent to me to return the laptop to Toshiba’s Inspection Division. I sent via FedEx the Toshiba Laptop to the address provided on Saturday, November 12, 2011.
On Tuesday, November 22, 2011 I received a call from [REDACTED] (Case Manager) stating my laptop keys must have burned because of external sources. She states I must have left my laptop next to the stove or next to a heater. She states they will only repair the laptop if I provide them with my credit card information over the phone so they could charge me $98.00 to fix the laptop.
I have several witnesses that can testify to the fact that I was physically operating the laptop when the keys melted and we were all shocked when the system began to meltdown.
I informed [REDACTED] that I was aware of consumer complaints similar to mine who experie nced laptop fires because of batter issues, and battery recalls due to melting laptop issues, and she stated nothing is wrong with my laptop battery. I informed her also of the malfunctioning webcam on the unit.
I refused to pay Toshiba $98.00 to fix the burned laptop, as I did nothing to cause this meltdown, and my laptop is still covered under factory warranty, and today November 29, 2011, I received the unfixed burned system back via FedEx; however, when Toshiba mailed the laptop back to me, they kept 10 of the melted keys.
I called [REDACTED] today, November 29, 2011, and left her another message, as I am displeased they did not fix the unit, or send the unit back to me with all the parts/keys, or in the condition in which I sent it to them.
Is there anything the CPSC can do to help me?
