  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Aug 9, 2026, sent to the company Aug 12, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 26, 2026

The product, in the report: The SkyDimo SK0301 is an internal PC lighting hub designed to synchronize PC chassis lights, ARGB strips, and accessories with desktop software. It interfaces with the proprietary Skydimo software platform ([REDACTED]) to offer real-time screen color capturing, audio/music reactivity, dynamic lighting presets, and custom color layouts.

SUBJECT: Urgent Product Hazard, False Product Labeling, and Property Damage SkyDimo Chassis Lighting Controller Model SK0301 Purchased via Newegg

    RESPONDENT / MARKETPLACE:

Newegg Commerce, Inc. / Third-Party Marketplace Seller (SkyDimo) 1. STATEMENT OF HAZARD & DECEPTIVE DESIGN

I am filing a formal complaint regarding a dangerous consumer electronic component: the SkyDimo Chassis Lighting Controller (Model SK0301).

This product possesses a critical design defect and mislabeled installation requirements that create an immediate fire hazard and cause severe electrical damage to PC components:

Mislabeled Manual: Page 3 and the technical specifications of the included user booklet explicitly instruct the user to connect the unit via an “Onboard 9 Pin” / “9-pin connector to the motherboard USB pin.”

Missing Safety Keying: Industry-standard internal PC headers use 9-pin keyed connectors (with one pin blocked off) to physically prevent backwards installation. However, this manufacturer supplied a generic, unkeyed 10-pin female connector.

Electrical Hazard: Because none of the pin slots are blocked, the 10-pin block plugs onto a standard 9-pin motherboard USB 2.0 header in either orientation without physical resistance. Reversing the plug misaligns power and ground pathways, back-feeding an electrical surge directly into the computer motherboard.

    2. INCIDENT & PROPERTY DAMAGE DETAILS

Upon powering on the system after installing the controller:

Electrical Surge: A severe back-fed surge occurred immediately due to the lack of proper keying/polarity protection.

Motherboard Destruction: The surge permanently burned out the motherboards B-channel memory traces/controller (causing the system to fail POST whenever RAM is placed in Slots B1/B2) and destroyed the board’s ARGB lighting lines.

Melted Wiring & Fire Hazard: The extreme current draw generated enough heat to burn and melt through the wire insulation, exposing bare copper wires and creating a serious electrical burn/fire hazard inside the chassis.

    3. SELLER RESPONSIBILITY & REMEDY SOUGHT

When contacted, the seller and distributor refused to accept responsibility or compensate for the direct physical property damage caused by their defective product.

I am formally requesting that your agencies investigate this matter and initiate the following corrective actions:

Product Safety Recall / Removal: Mandate that Newegg and SkyDimo immediately pull Model SK0301 from marketplace shelves to prevent electrical fires or component damage for other consumers.

Regulatory Enforcement: Hold the seller accountable for deceptive documentation (labeling an unkeyed 10-pin connector as a standard 9-pin USB connector).

Property Damage Restitution: Compel the retailer/seller to reimburse my out-of-pocket costs to replace the damaged motherboard destroyed by this product.

I have photographic evidence documenting the unkeyed 10-pin connector, the user manual explicitly specifying a 9-pin connection, and the melted wiring resulting from the surge.
