The product, in the report: RCA 7” TABLET. BLACK.

I purchase 2 RCA 7” tablets in December 2014, model number RTC6378W2. They seem to work fine for the first 3 months. They began to not hold a charge and shut off on their own frequently. By month 7 one of them would not turn on at all. Now at 11 months after purchase, within the same week, both tablets have blown apart. It seems as though the battery inside has exploded/expanded, separating the front and back sections of the tablet. I am very displeased and concerned with the safety of this product, as these were being used by my children.

The product, in the report: RCA Tablet, Model # RCT6378W2, black.

Hi, I’m contacting you regarding the RCA tablet, Model #RCT6378W2, that I purchased in November 2013. It was one of the Black Friday deals. It has been working fine up until about 2 weeks ago, when I noticed that the tablet had come open/apart on one side. The battery appears to have extremely expanded. The tablet otherwise works fine except for this issue. If the battery were to expand any more, it could rupture, causing whatever hazardous contents to splash onto person using the tablet, possibly resulting in burns.

Purchased a RCA pro 10 tablet from Walmart and it stopped working. This is sue to the battery exploding inside! This is a known problem Both Walmart and RCA are well aware. I returned one and the second one RCA sent me did the same thing. I called 1800 walmart and they said they would take it back. Check you tube lots of exploding batteries in these RCA tablets both the 7 inch and 10 inch. RCA has even shut down their call center there are so many issues ( 1.855.475.9646) I emailed they do not respond or give you the run around. I was also banned from their facebook RCA tablet site when I began trying to make people aware! I can see a fluke happening once but more than once?? not a chance! see these videos below

The product, in the report: 7 in. Computer Tablet

    FCC ID: A2HRCT6378W2

11/17/2014 The consumer was playing on his tablet for approximately fifteen minutes when all of a sudden the back cover blew off. The consumer had the tablet plugged in because this was the only way the tablet would stay on after approximately three months after purchase. The consumer indicates that while his was playing on his tablet, the unit was hot, however he thought nothing of it because so long as it is plugged in, the tablet is hot. The consumer proceeded to unplug his unit. The consumer indicates that the battery is now approximately half an inch thicker than the actual tablet, which should not be the case, and so he is unable to put the back cover back on the unit.

11/18/2014 The consumer contacted RCA at (855)475-9646 (tablet Customer Service contact information) and explained what happened. The representative he spoke to informed him that because the unit was still under warranty, that they would send a call tag the consumer to send the tablet back and RCA to inspect it. If after inspection, they determined that the issue was a factory problem, they would send the consumer a new tablet within four to six weeks.

12/03/2014 The consumer contacted RCA again because he had yet to receive his call tag. The representative he spoke to informed him that he should have already received the call tag and that they do not know why he had not received. They informed the consumer that they had his e-mail incorrect and could possibly be the reason why he never received his package, which the consumer deems irrelevant. The consumer was informed that they would send the call tag within seven to ten days.

12/18/2014 The consumer contacted RCA once again since he has not received his call tag. He spoke to [REDACTED] , the Supervisor, who had all his information correctly so the consumer does not understand why he has yet to receive the call tag. The Supervisor said that the consumer should have already received the call tag. The consumer was told the call tag would arrive by 12/26/2014 and that if not, he should contact them again.

The consumer is concerned because he keeps hearing the same story and excuse. The consumer has two other tablets he purchased the same day, same make and model, and is afraid the same thing may happen, or worse. The consumer has read many reviews where the battery has exploded and even injured people.

The consumer indicates that so long as the tablet is plugged in, it still functions like a laptop would if it was plugged in but without the battery .

The consumer has no injuries to report. The consumer believes this product poses a safety, burn and fire hazard.

My daughter had her rca 7” tablet sitting on her dresser an we had heard a loud pop sound an wasn’t sure where the noise had came from. We start looking in her room, knowing the sound had came from there. Couldn’t figure it out for a few minutes. Until we looked at her rca 7” tablet an it had exploded open an the battery was swelled up. I’ve researched an have came across this has happened quite often. We bought it at Walmart last Christmas an haven’t even owned. The tablet a year. This is very dangerous an my daughter could have been injured from this. These tablets should not be on ANY store shelf until this issue is handled. Thank you

Battery in my RCA Tablet has swollen up and while using it the case suddenly popped open revealing that the battery isn’t in a case like a phone, but rather is merely a bag! The bag was obviously much thinner once, but now is too fat to close the case, and feels like it matly pop if you tried. Also, the battery was very hot! I now am afraid to use it, or let my daughter use it, and I’d like to think it should be recalled as unsafe.

The product, in the report: RCA 7” Tablet Computer, Dual Core 8 Gb RCT6378W2 FCC ID:A2HRCT6378W2 IC: 9903A-RCT6378W2

Around Black Friday 2013, I purchased a RCA Tablet (RCT6378W2) for my daughter. Sometime two weeks ago, she was watching a video on it. After awhile of watching, she needed to go to the bathroom and set the tablet down. After she returned to it, the tablet was split in two. She told me about it and when I inspected the tablet, what seems to be the battery of the tablet, which was silvery plastic had expanded and had caused the battery to break open.

I am really concerned as during that time my daughter was using the tablet it was plugged in with its DC adapter. If she had not gone to the bathroom and was actually holding the tablet she would have been seriously electrocuted. Also, have the tablet been left unattended and remained plugged on to charge its battery, it could have caused a fire.

The product, in the report: 7” Tablet

We bought two RCA 7” Tablets (model RCT6378W2) from Walmart in Jan. 2014. Both began having problems with in a few months including not holding a charge. My wife’s completely quit working and Walmart allowed her to exchange it for another brand. My 12 year old daughter’s continued to work a little while longer but required it to be plugged in (it wouldn’t hold a charge anymore. Last night (Aug. 21st, 2014) she found the tablet in her room with the battery exploded. Thank God it didn’t catch on fire but the case was broken open and the battery puffed up like a balloon. This could have been a very dangerous situation if she had been holding it or if it had started a fire.

In my research on the internet it appears that many others have had this same problem. There needs to be a recall before someone get’s seriously hurt or houses catch on fire because of these faulty tablets.

The product, in the report: rca 7” tablet. 8gig

while our rca tablet sat. unused and turned off at the time, my husband heard a pop/crack and when he looked to see what had made the noise, he noticed the tablet was split open, exposing the insides of the tablet. we could then see the battery somewhat inflated! the next morning i called rca and explained what happened and since the tablet is still under the manufacturers warranty so they said they would send me a replacement and i am to return the one that i have. the next day, i look at the tablet and the battery is expanding even more! as time goes on, i see the battery more and more inflated! i am afraid that it will eventually explode! i called rca and theyre automated message said to go to youtube.com/rcatablet to find answers to FAQs. i went on [REDACTED]typed in rca tablet and the first video that came up, was of a guy showing his rca tablet with the back popped off, and the battery fully expanded also. he was also afraid of it blowing up! i am more uneasy about the fact that this tablet was my kids’ tablet! if this had happened while they were playing games or watching something, who knows what would have happened. they definitely would have had a pinched finger/hand, or the thing could have blew up right in their hands! i called rca a third time and explained my frustrations and they suggested i keep the tablet in a box outside in case it did explode! since i have to return it once i get the replacement one i cant get rid of it until the new one comes in the mail, in about 3-4 weeks! how is this acceptable!?
