The product, in the report: Product information Product category: Computer / Laptop Product name: Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model number: RZ09-0330 Serial number: BY2052M01103964 Product number / SKU: RZ09-03305E53 Manufacturer: Razer USA Ltd., 9 Pasteur, Irvine, CA 92618 Date of manufacture (if asked): 2020 (per device label) Where purchased: Best Buy Approximate purchase price: $2,500
On June 10, 2023, the lithium-ion battery in my Razer Blade 15 (Model RZ09-0330, Serial BY2052M01103964, Product RZ09-03305E53) swelled catastrophically during normal use, deforming the laptop chassis and separating the bottom casing from the device. The device reached contact temperatures that caused heat injury to my abdomen and chest while in use on my lap.
This failure was preceded by a documented four-month history of thermal instability on the same unit. On February 15, 2023, I opened a case with Razer Support (Incident #[REDACTED]) reporting persistent overheating, system crashes, and a burn injury to my finger from the chassis during normal photo editing and gaming use. The reported chassis temperatures exceeded 80C. I responded in detail to all troubleshooting questions from Razer’s Laptop Specialist Team. The case stalled after Razer requested a video of the intermittent crashes and did not escalate the report for hardware safety review.
On June 11, 2023, I notified Razer Support of the battery failure and physical injury. The case was not substantively addressed until I escalated to executive leadership in April 2026. Razer has acknowledged the case record but declined refund or replacement, offering only a 50% discount on repair services, which I have declined on safety grounds.
Photographs of the chassis deformation, separated bottom casing, and battery swelling are available, along with the full support correspondence documenting the pre-failure thermal reports.
This report is filed because lithium-ion battery swelling resulting in a contact burn injury on a consumer laptop is a recognized product safety hazard, and the manufacturer’s handling of the early thermal reports on this specific unit should be reviewed as part of any broader incident pattern on this product line.

The product, in the report: Product & Purchase Information Manufacturer: Razer Inc. Product: Razer Blade 14 (Laptop) Date of Purchase: February 10, 2026 Date of Incident: February 13, 2026 (Within 48 hours of first use) Model Number: RZ09-0427 Serial Number: BY2328M93200906
Product & Purchase Information Manufacturer: Razer Inc. Product: Razer Blade 14 (Laptop) Date of Purchase: February 10, 2026 Date of Incident: February 13, 2026 (Within 48 hours of first use) Model Number: RZ09-0427 Serial Number: BY2328M93200906
Description of the Safety Incident On February 13, 2026, while the device was operating under normal indoor conditions and running solely on battery power, it suffered a catastrophic internal hardware failure. The incident involved: A loud electrical “popping” sound from within the chassis. Visible smoke and a strong, pungent burnt smell emanating from the device.
The device shut down instantly and has since been rendered completely non-functional. This failure poses a significant fire hazard and safety risk to consumers, especially as it occurred while disconnected from any external power source (Battery Mode).
Grievance & Unfair Practices Denial of “Brand-New” Replacement for DOA unit: Despite the failure occurring within 48 hours of purchase (supported by a legal tax invoice dated Feb 10, 2026), Razer Inc. has refused to provide a “Brand-New” replacement, citing that the model is discontinued. Instead, they offered a “Good-as-new” (Refurbished) unit, which is unacceptable for a Dead-on-Arrival (DOA) asset.
Inaccurate Warranty Record: Razer repeatedly attempted to use outdated internal logistics data (Oct. 2025) to undermine my warranty rights, ignoring the official retail purchase documents.
Negligent Global Support: As a business owner, this failure has locked critical commercial data (files and contracts) inside a hazardous device. Razers slow response and refusal to provide a new equivalent unit demonstrate a lack of accountability for product safety.
Desired Resolution Mandatory Safety Investigation: A formal investigation by CPSC into the battery and internal power circuitry of this model to prevent potential fire-related injuries to other users. Brand-New Replacement or Refund: I demand a brand-new current model replacement or a full refund. I will not accept a refurbished unit for a product that failed immediately upon purchase. Accountability for Data Privacy: Formal assurance that my business data on the hazardous device will be securely destroyed.

The product, in the report: 17’’ Gaming Laptop. Black. 2021 model. RTX 3070 laptop graphics card.
We bought a Razer Blade 17 laptop back in late 2021. The batteries started swelling since last year, and recently its gone so bad that the entire back plate of the laptop is deformed. Swollen batteries are known to impose a fire hazard under regular use.

The product, in the report: Razer Blade 15 Base laptop
What Happened: While using the official Razer Blade 15 power adapter (purchased with the laptop from Best Buy, an authorized retailer), the charger began to emit smoke and a strong burning odor. I immediately unplugged it, as it appeared to be on the verge of catching fire.
The laptop was connected to the adapter at the time, raising concerns that the surge may have damaged internal components. When briefly powered on afterward, the charging port emitted a strange smell, so I shut it down immediately. I have not used the device since, as it appears unsafe.
Hazard: This presented a serious fire risk to me and my home. Had I not been present at the time to unplug the charger, it could have escalated into a fire. I have since discovered multiple reports online of other Razer users experiencing smoking or failing adapters, suggesting this may not be an isolated incident.
Manufacturer Response: I contacted Razer Support immediately. After over a month of back-and-forth, their final position was to offer a replacement adapter and a 15% discount on out-of-warranty laptop repairs shifting responsibility onto me. They have refused to take full responsibility for the safety hazard caused by their adapter.
Requested Action: I am reporting this incident to the CPSC because this product poses a fire hazard. I believe this issue warrants further investigation, as other consumers may also be at risk.
Injuries/Property Damage: No injuries, but there was smoke, and the incident could have caused property damage if I had not caught it in time.

The product, in the report: Razer Blade 15 Base Model (Early 2020) - RZ09-0328
While traveling on a commercial flight, the battery in my Razer laptop began to bloat severely. I was the only person using the product, and it was being used in a normal manner for work during the flight. The swelling created a fire hazard and caused me physical injury while I was forced to handle and contain the device mid-flight.
This was not an isolated incident. I have owned multiple Razer laptops over the years and experienced repeated failures with battery swelling. The product was always used in normal, intended conditions (charging, light work, travel use).
The most recent incident resulted in injury to my hand from handling the overheated, bloated device. The greater concern is the clear risk of fire or explosion in a confined space, especially during air travel, which endangered myself and other passengers.
Because of the repeated pattern of battery defects and the companys refusal to address the issue despite multiple reports, I am submitting this complaint for investigation into the safety of Razer laptops.

The product, in the report: USB camera designed for Webcasting or video conferencing. Powered by USB
After connecting my Razer Kiyo Pro camera to my computer via the manufacturer’s supplied USB cable the connector at the camera end of the USB cable became so hot the entire cable became fused to the camera. This happened overnight and there was s distinct smell of overheated electronics in my office in the morning. The camera body was too hot to touch. I removed the connection at the Computer end of the USB cable (not hot) and used the now fused cable to lift the camera off my screen and remove it to the outside.

The product, in the report: Razer Blade 15 laptop
I received a refurbished Razer Blade 15 ~9 months ago. The trackpad stopped working without applying extreme pressure in the last ~1 month, and the laptop started getting very hot. After opening the case of the computer, the battery is extremely swollen (“pillowed”).
This is a huge fire hazard, but I can’t get through to Razer support to remedy the issue.

The product, in the report: Razer Blade V6 - 4K UHD - 512GB. A laptop.
My Razer Blade V6 - 4K UHD - 512GB laptop that is less than a year old caught fire. I was sitting down doing work and I noticed fumes rising from the keys and I was quick to unplug everything and set it aside. I learned my laptop had caught on fire and the circuit board had burnt. It was so hot that I nearly scalded myself. I am thoroughly disappointed with Razer’s product line as this product posed a fire hazard to me. If I was asleep and my laptop was on downloading a file perhaps, it could’ve been a much different story.
