The product, in the report: Hard Drive Power Switch Module for 2.5/3.5 inch SATA HDD/SSD, SATA Switch, HDD Power Switch Hard Drive Selector,Controls up to Four HDDs ASIN: B07MJ8YTXV
B07MJ8YTXV Hard Drive Power Switch Module for 2.5/3.5 inch SATA HDD/SSD, SATA Switch, HDD Power Switch Hard Drive Selector,Controls up to Four HDDs Purchased from Amazon, ELOTE Direct Store, purchased March 9, 2022
Here is the message i sent to the seller via Amazon:
“The card caught fire this morning! One drive attached PC powered up The power to the attached drive was OFF Lucky I was right next to the PC when this happened. The house could have burned down. I want to return this card and get money back I’m concerned the PC power supply might have been damaged or weakened by the dead short on the card. I want you to pay for a new power supply for my PC. I have an [REDACTED]. “
Their response: “Sorry! We carefully identified the pictures you sent, and found that you did not directly use the SATA 15PIN interface that comes with the power supply of the PC case to connect our products, but through other conversion cables (provided by third parties). The two sata 15PIN power supply ports are directly connected to the SATA 15PIN port of your PC case power supply (the PC case power supply is guaranteed by the quality of the manufacturer), not through an unknown, unsecured third-party adapter cable (IDE 4pin to SATA 15pin) connection, we cannot guarantee the quality of your non-compliant third-party cables. The problem was found as follows: 1. The power supply port of the product requires 2 SATA 15pin connections of your PC case power supply. In the picture, you only use 1 third-party wire connection, which is prone to insufficient power supply and instability. 2. In the picture, you do not directly connect the SATA 15pin of the PC case power supply according to our description requirements, but connect the product through a third-party cheap adapter cable (IDE 4pin to SATA 15pin). We cannot provide quality for the third-party unknown cheap cables. guarantee. Conclusion: If the product connection method in the picture you provide is strictly in accordance with the product description requirements, we will bear the corresponding responsibility, but if the operation is not in accordance with the product use requirements, we cannot take responsibility for other people’s reasons.
Checked your order, the product has been used for more than 100 days, in such a long time, if it is a quality problem with our card, you will not use it for so long. The cause of the problem is that cable (IDE 4pin to SATA 15pin), it is unqualified, the material used cannot withstand overheating caused by long-term current, and it is prone to short circuit and fire! Please think about it carefully, our products are all standard components and have been sold for many years. The wires we provide are made of 18-gauge pure copper cores, which have been tested by time and other user experiences. And the cheap patch cord you choose costs less than 0.1 US dollars. Generally, it uses impurity copper core and regenerated outer skin, which cannot withstand the test of overheating.”
I have used PC’s for 40+ years, I sold them for over 10 years and I have never had a fire in a component. I find the seller/manufacturer response pathetic. They did not supply the required cables to attach to the power connection, I sourced them separately from [REDACTED], a national firm in business for over 30 years.
If I can save one person the disaster of a house fire by reporting this issue, it will be well worth my time.
