6 foot USB lightning cable was plugged into laptop. Lightning connector that plugs into iPhone was on floor. My daughter walked by and said something stung her foot. I came over to investigate and something hurt my foot too. I picked up lightning cable end and it was too hot to hold. It had only been plugged in a few minutes and had no phone attached or charging on it. Had it been left plugged in overnight I’m sure it could have caused a fire if allowed to keep heating.
