The product, in the report: LG monitor with SKU 6619495

My grandpa bought over $14,000 in products and he bought all the components and peripherals needed to build my dream gaming desktop PC at the Best Buy in Mt Juliet, TN on 12/06/2025. And on 12/08/2025 took the components to the same Mt Juliet Best Buy to have Geek Squad build my cutsom dream PC. Well on 08/20/2026 at 2am soon as I arrived home from my welding job and luckily still had all my flame retardant work clothes on but back to the issue at hand. I could smell something burning like a burning plastic smell and I literally ran to my bedroom and seen my Custom Gaming PC and LG monitor and [REDACTED] was on fire. Not a raging fire but it was fairly big flame. Well I’m Autistic but I’m 6’9 so I grabbed everything in my arms and literally ran out the door and flung it outside. And I remember hearing from someone never to throw water on an electrical fire and heck I still don’t know what the issue was other than maybe Best Buys Geek Squad didn’t fully connect a GPU PCIE5 connector or something cause thr PC had the biggest flames. Well my grandpa that purchased all my dream products died 3 months ago. So everything was just materially valuable but had so much sentimental value I still have been crying almost daily because the exact parts my Grandpa bought can never br brought back to me. And to make matters worse Best Buy and Geek Squad are giving me the run around. I have all receipts and everything so I went to the store and talked to the manager and the owner of the Mt Juliet store was there but would not even come talk to me. And he told the manager to tell me there is nothing they can do it’s a corporate issue. Well I called corporate and they told me to file a insurance claim with [REDACTED] so I tried to do that but [REDACTED] said they are not involved because my room or house didn’t burn down or anything just what products my now Dead Grandpa bought for me is all that was destroyed. So it has nothing to do with the [REDACTED] insurance company. So they told me to call [REDACTED] the [REDACTED] at Best Buy. So my sister called on my behalf because I have Social Anxiety Disorder & Autism so it’s hard for me to communicate. Well [REDACTED] said they would either Replace everything, refund me the full amount of all the parts current value, or give us the same value in store credit and he said this on 08/29/26. And he said he would call me the next day at 12-1pm and he never called me back. And when we tried to get ahold of him Bwst Buy would just give us the run around. I just want all my devices and PC and monitor and peripherals all replaced. But I feel they’re treating me some type of way because I’m Autistic and they think it’s funny. Please help me please!!!!!!

The product, in the report: The product is an LG UltraGear 32-inch OLED Dual Mode gaming monitor designed for desktop computer and gaming use. The monitor supports Dual Mode display, allowing 4K UHD resolution at high refresh rates and Full HD (1080p) at up to 480Hz. It features an OLED panel, an advertised 0.03ms response time, and compatibility with [REDACTED]. The monitor is approximately 32 inches measured diagonally, rectangular in shape, with a black plastic housing and a thin bezel design. It is mounted on a standard LG UltraGear monitor stand and was used on a desk in an indoor residential setting. The product is powered by a standard AC power cable and includes HDMI and DisplayPort inputs for connection to a computer or gaming console. The monitor is intended for high-performance gaming, general computer use, and media consumption. The unit was used exactly as intended by the manufacturer, without any modifications, third-party power supplies, or physical alterations. The monitor was connected to a surge protector at the time of the incident. During normal operation, the monitor began emitting smoke and showed signs of burning from within the housing, indicating a potential internal electrical or component failure.

While I was using an LG UltraGear 32-inch OLED Dual Mode gaming monitor (4K UHD / FHD 480Hz, 0.03ms, [REDACTED]), the monitor began emitting smoke and then caught a small fire. The incident occurred during normal use while the monitor was powered on and connected to my gaming setup. The monitor was plugged into a surge protector at the time of the incident.

I immediately noticed smoke coming from the monitor housing and observed signs of burning. I shut off power and unplugged the unit to prevent the fire from spreading. The incident was alarming and posed a serious fire risk, especially because it occurred inside a residential apartment.

The product involved was an LG UltraGear OLED computer monitor purchased new from Best Buy. The monitor was being used for personal gaming and computer use, as intended by the manufacturer. No modifications had been made to the monitor or its power cable.

I was the person using the product at the time of the incident. No other individuals were handling the monitor. The monitor was placed on a desk in a standard indoor environment and had adequate ventilation.

There were no physical injuries, but there was a significant risk of injury or property damage. If I had not noticed the smoke quickly and disconnected the power, the fire could have spread, potentially causing burns, smoke inhalation, or damage to the apartment and surrounding units.

This incident caused concern that the monitor may have an internal electrical defect or overheating issue that could pose a fire hazard to other consumers. Because the product produced smoke and fire during normal operation, I believe this is a serious product safety issue that should be investigated.

The product, in the report: LG 34GK950F Ultrawide computer monitor, black. Serial Number: 008NTBK74837

LG computer monitor 34GK950F caught fire. The day before the fire bottom 1/4” of the screen started flickering. On the day of the fire it was running for about 15 minutes before I noticed a small “bubble” forming on the extreme right of the screen in line with the flickering. A few seconds later and strange liquid effect could be seen traveling about 1” miles it from that bubble. About 15 seconds later fire came out from the bubble. I unplugged the monitor and th fire went out on its own. At the time of the incident all I was doing was web browsing - nothing that was stressing the monitor at all. I’m just glad I was sitting at the computer at the time and could stop the fire before any further damage was done to anything or anyone else.

This report is on a 32” LG computer monitor. My son was doing school work when the monitor broke from the base and fell toward his keyboard and hands. Fortunately, he caught the monitor before it hit the desktop, and he was not injured. We purchased the monitor through Amazon.com in June 2019. It is large and heavy. We don’t move it often, and we had no idea that there was a problem with the integrity of the monitor base. When I went back into my order history on Amazon to see when we purchased the monitor, I then looked at the one- and two-star reviews. I see that over the several months, there have been a number of similar incidents with this particular monitor. Clearly the design of the base is not sufficient to support the weight of the monitor.

The product, in the report: New Original LG MCS-01WR USB Cable+Home Wall Charger For your LG device. 2-In-1 Features: Charge your LG phone on wall outlet. Sync & charge your LG phone with PC/Laptop. Package include: USB travel charger & USB data cable.

In April 2014 I purchased a new LG Enact from Verizon Wireless. It came with the LG MCS-01WR Nexus 4 Micro-USB AC Adapter Charger Kit. The problem is with the LG MCS-01WR Nexus 4 Micro-USB AC Adapter Charger Kit. I kept hearing a buzzing or vibrating noise. When I learned it was the charger that was buzzing I checked it for damage which there was none. I then felt to see if the charger was hot to the touch and it was not, it was cool. The USB charger was still making a buzzing noise so I unplugged it from the wall. At that point my domestic partner wanted to see the phone and charger to check for damage when she touched the plug end of the charger and received a electrical shock that left a minor electrical burn with blisters. All this happened after the LG charger was unplugged from the electrical source. I tried to address this problem with Verizon Wireless and they were no help. They advised me to buy a new charger and stop using the LG MCS-01WR Nexus 4 Micro-USB AC Adapter. Which I already had done. My domestic partner also has a LG Enact that came with the LG MCS-01WR Nexus 4 Micro-USB AC Adapter Charger Kit purchased at the same time that is starting to make the same buzzing noise. Although we have not experienced the same exact problem with my domestic partners charger we have stopped using the chargers. I have looked at both the charger and phone for damage and I cant find any. I still have the LG MCS-01WR Nexus 4 Micro-USB AC Adapter Charger and cell phone. I did not know who to contact regarding this issue so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Made Jan 2, 2012, sent to the company Jan 9, 2012, published by CPSC Jan 24, 2012

The product, in the report: LG HD DVD Drive, Model GGC-H20L, SN: 803ZBHC002073, Dated March 2008 03 31. Black bezel, SATA connectors.

In the morning of 1/1/2012 my wife smelled smoke, and we traced the source to a desktop computer. I found that there was a fire (flames) inside the computer. After disconnecting the computer, I removed the hot computer, blew out the flames, and moved the smoking computer outside in order to remove the source of the smoke and let the PC cool down. I then opened windows and turned on several fans to remove smoke from the area.

I inspected the computer and took pictures during the inspection and disassembly. The source of the fire was an LG HD DVD drive, Model: GGC-H20L, SN: 803ZBHC002073, Date: March 2008 03 31. The rear of the drive was heavily charred. The flames that were observed during removal were being fueled by the burning plastic of the power and SATA connectors at the rear of the drive. The flames also melted and set fire to the plastic filter screen that was part of the InWin chassis.NOTE: The filter screen and the PC were not dusty since the PC had been located in the side cabinet of an oak “Mission sytle” office desk. The pictures that I took show the chassis before disassembly and the subsequent disassembly. I also have saved the defective DVD drive in a plastic “zip lock” bag.

The PC had been located on a shelf of the side cabinet of an oak desk. There were about 6 inches of clearance on the sides, about three inches of cleaance above the PC, and at least 10 inches of clearance at the rear. The front door of the cabinet had been open, and there was no significant dust in the cabinet or the PC. Ventilation was not obstructed, and there were no other sources of heat.

Although there was not much fuel within the PC that had not been already consumed by the flames, there was probably a reasonable chance that the fire would have spread to the desk, the office, and the house. Thus there could the house could have burned down, and there could have been a loss of life.

The DVD drive had not been used during the prevoius 24 hours prior to this incident, and had actually been used very infrequiently. A file had been burned to a DVD disk a few days before the fire without any problems.

I expect that the fire in this LG DVD drive was caused by failed components. While looking at a review of a small PC chassis earlier this week I noted a comment by the reviewer who noted that the capacitors that had been used on the chaassis power supply had been implicated in some electronic fires, so my current concern is that the LG DVD drive also was made using similar capacitors, which also failed and caused the fire.

Besides the concern that the LG GGC-H20L drive was defective due to poor components such as a dangerous type of capacitor, I am now concerned about whether other LG DVD drives also contain the same types of defective comonents. If evidence shows that this type of component has a chance of causing fires when they fail, I feel that they should be recalled and replaced with DVD drives that use more reliable components.
