The product, in the report: Product Name: Klu by Curtis Touchscreen Internet Tablet (Android 4.1 Jelly Bean) Size: 7” color: black Build #: R86plus_KLU_SP0838_WEIER_800X480_4.1.1_20130824 KLU

I have a Klu by Curtis tablet model LT7035-H (Android 4.1 ). Anyways I was playing on my tablet and all of a sudden a loud pop occurred and I looked at it and the battery had swelled/exploded. The tablet still works just fine but I believe this is still a danger to me. I can still use it at the moment but I don’t know what else to do besides report it.

This is the Transcript I filed with Curtis International Limited Corp:

    To whom it may concern,

The unit I am sending back was purchased ONLINE from HH Gregg in April of 2014. This unit, and another identical unit, were purchased as Easter Gifts for my Daughters (7 and 2). This past weekend, the unit being returned, began to expand and open up like a clam while my daughter was playing with it. She was absolutely terrified when she saw this unit opening up. After inspecting this unit, I believe that there is a serious defect in what looks like it could be a Battery Pack. The viewable part of the inside, and the expanded piece, looks like a foil wrapped pouch. Not being an authority on Technology, I am only taking a logistical guess as to what this could be. Please accept this return and I will look forward to receiving a new replacement unit in the 6-8 week time frame Customer Service promised me. Until then, can you please do some research and see how often this is happening? Although these Lithium Polymer batteries are safer from combustion than a standard Lithium Ion battery, I don’t feel that possible leaking of Lithium infused Polymer Gel would be well received on a child’s lap. I am also concerned with the fact that this unit is only Factory Warrantied for 90 Days and that these batteries are defective in less than 6 Months from purchase date. Please reconsider extending your warranty and issuing a recall on this defective item.

    Sincerely,

    [REDACTED]
