No one hurt Made Jun 14, 2021, sent to the company Jul 7, 2021, published by CPSC Jul 21, 2021
The product, in the report: Ellipsis Jetpack mobile internet hotspot
• Model & Serial# unavailable, as the firm took the product back.
(2018): The consumer purchased her jetpack.
(2020): The battery swelled up so much, that it caused the jetpack to split apart. The consumer went to her local dealer’s store (1006 E. End Blvd N., Ste. A, Marshall, TX 75670, Tel: 903-472-0106), and showed them what happened to her product. The store rep. (name unknown) told the consumer that she would have to purchase another one on a new 2 year contract. Furthermore, before, she could purchase another one, she had to pay the current one off. The consumer was not willing to do that and she found that if she removed the battery, she could operate the product solely on electricity.
(5/2021): The consumer participated in the recall and received her replacement jetpack in May 2021.
She stated that the manufacturer automatically debits her account for the monthly payment.
However, after she received the new jetpack, per the recall, she found that the firm is charging her $20.00 each per month each (for the recalled jetpack that they took back and for new unit, they provided per the recall).
The consumer was also charge a $35.00 activation fee, for the new jetpack provided through the recall. The consumer said if people are being charged an activation fee for the new replacement units, which are being provided, per the recall, the firm is making a substantial amount of money, for their hazardous products.
She also stated that the $20.00 fee, for both jetpacks, was on her May & June-2021 bill. She received her July 2021 bill and saw that that fee for both jetpacks is also on there.

The product, in the report: Certified Pre-owned Ellipsis Jetpack MHS900L. Product SKU = ACCANV001535, IMEI: [REDACTED] Battery was made in China and is a 3.8V Li-ion 2100mAh DP15 7.98Wh. Model V604454AR- battery
I have a Verizon Ellipsis Jetpack. I purchased it from Verizon on Sept 26, 2019. In April of 2020, I noticed the unit had separated the top from the bottom. I put it back together. The next day I touched the unit to turn it off and it was hot. The top and bottom had separated again. This time the battery would not go back in. The battery appeared to have swollen. We were in lock down so I just removed the battery and continued to use the Jetpack plug into the electric.

Hurt, no treatment Made Jun 4, 2018, sent to the company Jun 12, 2018, published by CPSC Jun 26, 2018
The product, in the report: Modem, Ellipsis MHS 815L, 2x3x1/2 inches Connects computer by radio network signal to Verizon microwave.
Verizon modem Ellipsis Jetpack MHS 815 L swells to twice normal, too hot to touch, smells, shuts down. Battery is sealed inside unit. Verizon store unable to remove battery....proposes to return defective device as is using my return mailing label. Verizon store refuses to accept defective devise without my label for them to use. I do not want them to put this potentially dangerous device in the mail under my name. I do not want me or them to mail it with this potentially damaged/dangerous battery sealed inside.
The Ellipsis has not managed its battery properly. It appears to overcharge it’s own battery and it does not manage the battery temperature at a safe temperature ...the device gets hot enough to burn a persons hand, possibly start a fire. I have had difficulty returning the defective unit to Verizon and would like you to have a look at it. I would be glad to hand carry it to your lab if it is near your office in Bethesda. If you do want the device, please let me know right away at [REDACTED]. [REDACTED]
