The product, in the report: 4’ HDMI to HDMI cable
The Worcester Fire Investigation Unit responded to a small fire at a commercial building that is occupied by a car rental company. Employees reported a fire involving an HDMI cable. At the time of the fire, a computer monitor was receiving power through a charging cord and adaptor. The power cord then connected to a USB hub before being plugged into the monitor. The HDMI cable that was involved in the fire ran from the back of the computer monitor, across the desk and over some office supplies to where it is commonly used to connect a tablet to the computer (tablet was not connected at the time of the fire). A fire occurred near the end of the HDMI cable and caused damage to the desk and office supplies located on the desk.

No one hurt Made Mar 2, 2015, sent to the company Mar 11, 2015, published by CPSC Mar 25, 2015
The product, in the report: 14.5 inches wide, 10.5 inches long. 0.25 inches deep in the forward part, going upwards to 1.5 inches in the far side. Dark grey, covered in holes for ventilation. 2 inside fans, both at the far side of the device. A dark grey band of rubber, saying “belkin” on the forward front of the unit. On the back, in the indentation, it reads “N10117 FOR HOME OR OFFICE USE US Patent 6,527,241” On the back, outside the indentation, it reads “US Patent 8,061,679 Made in Taiwan Model: FSL 103 Additionally, when I tried to upload my pictures to your website, it froze my screen, an error message flashed for half a second, and I had to recover the page.
Near the very end of 2013, my dad and I bought a Belkin cooling unit for my laptop computer. For most of the year, while it worked, it did not work well. I began to notice lighter marks on the grey plastic, about half a year in, and thought nothing of it. I’d thought them the result of wear and tear on the thing, and probably from continually setting my computer down on it.
Apparently, they were singe marks. Because on January 29th, at some point between midnight and 5am, my cooling unit caught fire, directly next to my left hip. I heard sputtering, and wasn’t sure what it was, but then noticed the little trail of smoke, emitting from my computer. Looking down, I saw the open flame, which had burned the USB plug off of its wire, and was spraying flame out for about an inch, next to my flammable pants and blankets.
Immediately, I shut down my computer, to end the power source, and the flame died out. I wasn’t burned and nothing (except the Belkin cooling unit) caught fire. It caused more white singe marks, around the area where the plug caught fire. They match the previous singe marks, near the top of the unit.
We took the unit back to Wal-Mart the next day, but they said that it was not their job to report such things, and that we would have to do so. They encouraged me to take photos of what happened, and contact Belkin directly. But I did not wish to do so, because I have noticed that most companies do not like admitting to fault, in cases of dangerous incidents. I doubted that anything would be done.
After some asking around, no one knew where to report this to, so I just typed in “Where do I report dangerous products?” into Bing, and it gave me your site. Several other sites, listed beneath it, also referenced your site as the place to go. So.
I’ve got 3 pictures of the singe marks and melted cable on my Belkin unit. I’d imagine that several people could be harmed, by the sudden appearance of an unexpected flame. I hope you guys can use my report, to stop this problem from hurting anybody.

The product, in the report: Belkin N600 DB Wireless N+ Router Model F9K1102v1
Purchased Belkin N-600 DB Wireless N+ router Model: F91102v1 Serial No. 121108G5103356. It did not work. Called Belkin help desk. They could not diagnose or repair problem, elevated to Sr. Engineer. Before speaking with Sr. Engineer, hit reset button on back of unit, then plugged into modem and electric power cord. While on phone with technician, router suddenly began smoking with an electric fire. Technician told me to return unit to the store and get another one.
This was a brand new router purchased on 6/12/11 at Target Philadelphia SE store. Response of manufacturer, not to seek information on serial number or concern about fire hazard of product is of concern to me. I offered to provide this information but the technician to which I spoke indicated only that I should return the Router to the Target store and get a new one. How could I trust a new one when this one had an electrical fire incident within two days of purchase?
