The product, in the report: It is a Asus Zenbook S16, silver, 16in screen
I bought an Asus Zenbook S16 (Model: UM5606WA-S16.R3651TB SKU: 6584435) about 3 months ago. I thought it was a bit weird, since day one I had issues with overheating but I thought it might just be the slim form factor of the laptop. Then it was doing it when just using a web browser. Later the screen would do go black for prolonged periods of time so I planned to go to Best Buy (who is the merchant I bought it online from) later that week. Then today on September 7th, the laptop hinge caught on fire when turning it back on. I have a photo of where it burned a hole and also video of the laptop screen going black that I recorded 10 minutes prior to the fire occurring

Hurt, no treatment Made Apr 11, 2026, sent to the company Apr 14, 2026, published by CPSC Apr 28, 2026
The product, in the report: ASUS - ROG Zephyrus G16 16” OLED QHD 240HZ Gaming laptop - Intel Core Ultra 9 - 16GB LPDDR5X - NVIDIA RTX 4070 - 1TB SSD - Eclipse Gray. Model : GU605MI-G16.U94070 SKU: 6570222 (Bought at Best Buy)
At around 3PM on 4/11/2026, my original charger from my Asus Zephyrus G16 16” caught on fire near where it plugs into the computer. It burned my clothing and my bedding. I had to unplug it while it was still burning and had to throw water on it after I unplugged it. This computer is only less than a year old. I only had it charging for a few minutes. There is 0 damage to the computer or the cord at all prior to what happened. I can send a video to show that the entire cord is intact and isn’t damaged whatsoever except for the part that burned of course.

The product, in the report: ASUS Q534UX-BHI7T19 Laptop. 15.6 inch, I-Core 7, 16 GB Memory, Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M Video Card, 2TB HDD, 512GB SSD, 4K UHD, Color Black. SKU: 5561200.
I had two (2) instances of a lithium battery expanding in size and deforming the case of the electronic device. One was a [REDACTED] and the other was an ASUS Q534UX Laptop. Current version Li batteries are encased in a rigid enclosure. These early Li batteries were simply enclosed in a plastic wrap, allowing them to expand over time and deform/rupture the case of the electronic device.

Hurt, no treatment Made Jul 16, 2021, sent to the company Jul 21, 2021, published by CPSC Aug 4, 2021
The product, in the report: ASUS VivoBook Flip 14 laptop Model TP401N UPC 8-89349-84850-0
I have an ASUS VivoBook Flip laptop computer purchased approximately 4 years ago. Since the purchase, the laptop has run so hot that initially the laptop would shutdown less than an hour after starting. The shutdown was resolved by flashing a BIOS upgrade, but the heat issue remained and forced me to purchase a cooling pad. A few months ago, I fell asleep with the laptop on my chest without the pad which resulted in a mild burn. The CPU temperature has been measured at about 80-90 degrees C without the pad and 10 degreees less with the pad. Normal CPU temperatures should be in the 50-60 degrees C range. I was contacted by ASUS after responding to a customer satisfaction survey and initially offered to have the PC serviced due to a safety hazard. However, theu have since decided since I was using the PC in a “non-approved” position, the burn was my fault. While I don’t dispute that, the temperature issue which has been present since the beginnng is clearly either a manufacturing or design flaw and in my opinion a safety hazard that could potentially cause a fire.

The product, in the report: Asus laptop model # x540s
So...bought a new Asus laptop. 6 mos. into use the silver sheathing on the charger end that goes into the computer began to fail. By that I mean that an apparent weak spot began to crack. At that point I contacted Asus and they understood my concern and acted as if they were going to replace it. After continued contact on my part over 2 weeks time I was told it was my fault and I would have to buy another plug. I called them again this week as now it is sparking and I have ceased using my laptop. Asus agreed that this is a safety concern but refused any warranty assistance. I know of two other people who have the same issue with their Asus. It’s not just me. It’s not about the money, it’s their disregard for consumer safety. I’ll never deal with them again. Personally, I believe this is a design flaw because the plug end is a 90 degree angle and was not thoroughly thought through. How about that for alliteration! I have an old Samsung laptop that has a straight in plug that has never failed and has always felt reliable and safe. I’m afraid the spark will turn into fire, and not just for me. Thank you for listening.

The product, in the report: Netbook computer
My ASUS EEpc 1000HE netbook PC (SN 94OAAQ231418) normally goes into standby mode when I close the lid. Yesterday it started shutting off completely instead (as if a power switch had been turned off), when I closed the lid. Today it started smoking from the hinge area when I slowly closed the lid. I quickly removed the battery to prevent a fire.
I contacted ASUS technical support and they said it was out of warranty. They did not seem concerned about the fact that it was smoking.
