No incident, no one hurt Made May 11, 2026, sent to the company May 14, 2026, published by CPSC May 29, 2026
The product, in the report: An Acer Nitro V 16 AI 16” WUXGA IPS 180Hz Gaming Laptop, AMD Ryzen AI 5 240 processor, nvidia geforce rtx 5050 with 8gb gddr7 vram, 16gb ram, 512gb pcie gen 4 ssd, obisdian black
Acer returned a laptop after repair that was documented by chat support as having gotten a motherboard replacement, bottom case replacement, and top case replacement. But when I got the laptop, it said they only updated the bios and tested it and that no issues were found. The laptop is now emitting a sweet, alost nail polish like odor which is causing headaches. An Acer supervisor over the phone advised me to ship this potentially hazardous device (if the battery is damaged like it seems like it is) through standard [REDACTED] against federal safety regulations. They also told me that the battery wasn’t leaking, that they “know how batteries work,” and that they could “see” about getting it shipped in different packaging. Also, they didn’t acknowledge that the chat support worker lied about my laptop being repaired.

No incident, no one hurt Made Jan 19, 2026, sent to the company Jan 22, 2026, published by CPSC Feb 11, 2026
The product, in the report: item: Laptop Brand: Acer Model: Aspire 14 AI ( A14-52MT-59DP ) S/N: NXJDJAA00150807EB07600 SNID: 50803243276
I purchased an Acer laptop on eBay (Acer official store). Within about one month of normal use, the laptop exploded and produced smoke while charging with the original factory charger. The explosion caused the back cover to become loose/opened, and internal components are visibly burned/charred (blackened). I was nearly injured and this incident posed a serious risk of injury and property damage (potential fire hazard).
After the incident, I contacted [REDACTED] Protection Plans (warranty/extended protection plan offered through eBay), but [REDACTED] denied my claim, alleging unauthorized repairs. This is incorrect I did not repair, modify, or disassemble the device; the cover opened as a result of the explosion.
I have photos/videos of the damaged laptop and the burnt internal components, purchase records, and [REDACTED] denial emails. I am reporting this as a serious product safety hazard.

My daughters ([REDACTED]) laptop cord caught fire. She yelled for me after smelling smoke. I discovered it and quickly unlplugged laptop and moved her bed away from outlet and laptop. Her sheet had burnt, the outlet as shown and the cord. What was even more alarming was how hot the actual laptop itself was. Im sure it too was about to be flames had i not found it. Hot enough it burned to touch it. It was plugged in behind her bed and was sitting on her nightstand. Cord showed no signs of damage prior to this use. Burnt her sheet, wall outlet. & cord. Laptop was hot enough it hurt to grab it. We live in an apartment and this not only endangered myself and my children but the entire complex.

The product, in the report: Acer A100 Android Tablet sold by Gamestop Inc.
I had bought a Acer A100 tablet over a year ago and noticed A strange smell coming from the ports of the device. I then had started ill health effects that once I sealed the tablet in the garage that I’m now recovering from. Before I put it away I looked up online on how to open the device without breaking it. I did this and when I did. A horrible Solvent smell emanated from it almost making me pass out. I put it back together and sealed it in a plastic bag.

No one hurt Made Mar 13, 2013, sent to the company Mar 20, 2013, published by CPSC Apr 10, 2013
The product, in the report: Acer Aspire 8951G-9600 Laptop Computer P/N LXRJ207008
My Acer Aspire 8951G laptop computer has a removable battery-powered trackpad that can be used wirelessly away from the rest of the computer.
On the night of 2/27, the laptop was ON in sleep mode with the LCD screen off. I heard a loud POP, and came downstairs to investigate. When I looked at my laptop computer, I saw the laptop’s trackpad no longer sat flush and level with the body of the laptop.
The battery cell inside the laptop trackpad had exploded and bulged outward due to heat. The entire plastic body of the removable trackpad no longer can stay closed due to the bulge in the center. The trackpad is no longer useable due to the fact it cannot sit flush and interface with the pins on the laptop side -- not to mention the hazard of future trying to charge a damaged battery.
On 2/28, Acer assigned me a RMA number of [REDACTED] and issued me a FedEx ground tracking label to return the laptop. I elected to return only the wireless trackpad with the exploded battery due to sensitive personal data still on the laptop. Days later, Acer claims they still are not able to find the defective module returned to them and refuses to help further, other to demand that I send the rest of the laptop to them without guarantee of return, repair, or compensation!

The product, in the report: Acer aspire one netbook, color blue 9.75”x 6.75”
I was using my Acer aspire one, after about 30 min of use it shut off, I tried to restart the computer and it would come on then shut right down again. With no luck restarting I reached up to close the computer and I burned my thumb on the upper left where it says acer on the border of the monitor. After I pulled my thumb away I could see where the plastic had melted. I tried to call Acer, but they said because it was out of warranty they could not do anything. I found on the acer website where they had some recalls [REDACTED], but my computer was not part of the recall. They were not willing to let me explain my issue.

The product, in the report: Acer Aspire 4720Z Laptop
My laptop gets extremely hot. When it is placed on a wooden table the table gets so hot that it is warm to touch on the bottom of the table. If you place the laptop on your lap after a short time it will start burning your legs (they will become reddened and hurt). It is very hot to touch. This is a huge hazard. My father-in-law also owns the same model laptop and has the same issues with it being very hot all of the time.
