The product, in the report: acer aspire R14 15 inch laptop

mine is a safety concern with my acer laptop I perchesed from Best Buy in the spokane Valley WA. I noticed it started to overheat when I would set it on my lap to use..it really got hot and it burned the surface skin of the top of my legs the first time, then didn’t use again for a long while, the 2nd time was later in the fall and again set it on my legs not thinking, and again it burned the top of my legs , but this time through my jeans... so it kinda worried me so I used it sparingly after that and mostly went back to using my old [REDACTED] desk top that I very much dislike, and just used my lap top sparengly and kept in mind that it heats up quite a bit so always having to take that into consideration I usually sit it on a little steel sitting stool next to my bed. never really wanted to part with it due to really loving my little laptop but wishing that it had a few better things on it like a back lit keyboard, and longer battery life and obviously not wanting to have to worry about the scarry overheating thing!!!

The product, in the report: Acer Aspire One Notebook computer

Last night my acer notebook started smoking and burst into flames.. it was unplugged and not in sleeper mode and was turned off and hadn’t been used in two days.. i threw it outside where it reacted with the wet grass and of course that made the fire worse and then it started exploding and sending little rockets all over the yard.. i couldn’t get to the water hose for fear of getting hit.very scary event!!. i am so glad i was home at the time.. Currently -after having a terrible time getting a customer service person, i called a lady in texas who was of big help.. She has photos that i took and is advising me to send product to burnaby in BC for invesitgating.. its a 2010 model and there was no reason on earth why it did this.. it was on a glass table top, not touching anything.. makes no sense. I am waiting for them to tell me it was my fault somehow.. clearly it could have deadly consequences for someone and this should be addressed and explained ..

The product, in the report: Small, netbook made by Acer. Meant simply for internet and small computer tasks which is what it was used for in the week it worked. It did not work well during that time, either.

I purchaed an Acer netbook from Walmart and it constantly crashed for about a week. Then, when it was sitting on my lap, it began smoking and burned a hole through the plastic casing onto my leg. Acer has been anything but helpful and seems more intent on limiting their liability in the matter.

The product, in the report: LAPTOP 17” ACER ASPIRE 6930-6067 SN: LXASR0X1069030007C2500 SNID: 90300012425 MFG DATE:0901

I have an Acer Aspire 6930-6067 laptop. The other day the sound went out on it, and a day later the screen was black. My [REDACTED] was plugged into the USB port and it smelt hot, so I removed the [REDACTED] and USB cable and let the laptop sit for a couple days. I turned the laptop on last night, smoke started coming out from underneath it, I immediately grabbed it, and turned it over just as the smoke turned into little flames. I blew the fire out and called ACER. They said my product was out of warranty and to call another phone number where I could pay for support. I am not going to pay for support because their product caught fire so I went to their website and began a chat. The rep told me to contact Revonate at [REDACTED]. But they were already closed for the night. When I finally was able to speak with a live person at the number they said there was nothing they could do because my computer was no longer under warranty. I responded “but this is a safety issue. My laptop caught fire by nothing I did. This product needs to be recalled.” The lady on the other end asked her manager if there was something that could be done and she said no. She continued to reassure me that it was out of warranty and there was nothing more that could be done also they havne’t had issues with other computers catching fire.

The fact that this laptop caught on fire is of big concern. Had I not been sitting by it my house could have easily been up in flames. And the fact that the company thinks this isn’t a big deal is concerning.
