The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

Made Jan 21, 2012, sent to the company Jan 27, 2012, published by CPSC Feb 10, 2012

The product, in the report: iHome Audio model iH6 clock radio/iPod docking station

iHome Audio, 1229 Main Street, Rahway, NJ 07065. iHome iH6 clock radio/iPod docking station started smoking and caught fire less than one minute after docking a iPhone 4 to the docking station. The unit began smoking and did not stop until it was unplugged and the internal batteries were removed. This unit was manufactured prior to the iPhone being introduced, and although the docking station will fit all Apple products; iPod and iPhone, apparently placing anything other than an iPod Shuffle on it will cause a failure. A check of the iHome Audio web site, www.ihomeaudio.com, shows the owner’s manual for the iHome iH6 model has a warning added (obviously after the fact as the iPhone was not being made then) that docking an iPod or iPhone to the top of the iHome iH6 will cause damage to both of the units. I believe this is a consumer fire hazard as this docking station will fit all current Apple products and cannot handle the current requirements without catching fire almost immediately. I believe a recall should be initiated before more problems occur.
