No one hurt Made May 29, 2026, sent to the company Jun 3, 2026, published by CPSC Jun 17, 2026
The product, in the report: Google Pixel 8 Pro - Obsidian, 128GB
Consumer reporting a lithium-ion battery safety issue involving a smartphone. While the device was charging using a google type c charging cable, the battery overheated, bulged and cracked the back glass of the phone raising a fire risk. The device was used by them (adult) only for personal use and had never been dropped or did not have any damage before the incident.
No physical injury occurred at this time, but they believe the condition created a potential safety hazard because lithium-ion battery swelling can lead to overheating, smoke, or fire.
They contacted support multiple times and provided photos, device information, and other requested documentation. Company acknowledged battery-related issues on certain models through extended repair/replacement programs but informed their specific model was not covered and that they would need to pay for repair despite the apparent battery safety issue.

No one hurt Made Feb 28, 2025, sent to the company Mar 5, 2025, published by CPSC Mar 19, 2025
The product, in the report: Google pixel 7 pro
I bought a Google pixel 7 pro in 03/2023. In 2024, the phone started getting so hot during operation that I could not use a case, it would shut itself off due to overheating, and it would hurt my face to have it against it. I got a replacement through my warranty plan in Nov 2024, and it started to have similar battery problems but the replacement also had a microphone problem that made it unusable.

Hurt, no treatment Made Nov 10, 2023, sent to the company Nov 14, 2023, published by CPSC Nov 29, 2023
The product, in the report: Google Pixel 7 cell phone
Google sells a product with a known safety defect. The Google Pixel 7 rear camera glass is known to spontaneously burst when exposed to rapid temperature changes. When persons then pick up their phone, small shards of glass pierce their fingers. The shards of glass are near microscopic, making them difficult to remove. a representative for Google acknowledged that they are aware of the issues. This has happened to me twice in the previous year.

First aid Made Feb 9, 2022, sent to the company Feb 15, 2022, published by CPSC Mar 2, 2022
The product, in the report: Google Pixel 6 Pro
I purchased a Google Pixel 6 Pro phone and received it in January 2022. The phone had what I thought was an imperfection on it in one corner. I started using the phone beginning around January 4, 2022. As I was using the phone on 2/7/2022 I sliced my finger on an area where the glass had cracked. I didn’t realize that the phone glass had cracked until I looked closely at it. I have read on an internet forum that other consumers have had their glass screens crack for no apparent reason on the Pixel 6 Pro phone. I believe that there is a material defect in the glass and it is dangerous to unsuspecting users. There is not enough protection provided by the manufacturer to users if the glass on the phone cracks.
