The product, in the report: Google Pixel 6 smartphone, Stormy Black color, featuring a 6.4-inch display panel and a lithium-ion internal battery
I am reporting a severe product safety hazard regarding a Google Pixel 6 smartphone. The lithium-ion battery inside the device has catastrophically swollen and expanded, causing intense upward pressure that has physically split the chassis open and separated the display screen entirely from the frame of the phone. I contacted the manufacturer (Google Support) regarding this hardware safety issue. Google Support explicitly stated in writing that their team determined a swollen battery is “not a safety concern.” However, in a direct contradiction, they later explicitly instructed me that “for your safety, it is not recommended to charge or continue to use a device with a swollen battery.” They have spent over two weeks engaging in severe administrative delays, refusing to process a safe out-of-warranty replacement, and repeatedly instructing me via email to drop this volatile, swollen fire hazard into standard commercial transit networks to mail it to a repair center just to generate a “diagnostic report.” No injuries have occurred, but the device represents an active fire and thermal runaway hazard. The manufacturer is creating an unsafe scenario by completely dismissing an active safety risk while simultaneously acknowledging the device is too hazardous to operate or charge. If contacted directly, I would be more than happy to forward the email thread which well documents the neglect and stall tactics implemented by Google’s support team.

The product, in the report: google Pixel 6
My Pixel 6 battery has expanded significantly and appears to be at risk of rupturing or exploding. This is the second Pixel 6 I have experienced with the same battery issue. The first Pixel 6 was previously replaced by Google because of battery swelling. Since the replacement phone has now developed the same problem, I am very concerned that this may be a recurring issue with the Pixel 6

The product, in the report: Google Pixel 7 with black case
The lithium-ion battery inside my Google Pixel 7 has experienced severe physical failure and expansion. The swelling is so severe that it has physically forced the screen assembly to separate from the phone’s frame. This compromised battery poses an immediate fire, explosion, and chemical safety hazard in my home. The manufacturer (Google) has initially refused to resolve this severe safety defect without demanding out-of-pocket, out-of-warranty repair charges.

No incident, no one hurt Made Aug 25, 2026, sent to the company Aug 31, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 15, 2026
The product, in the report: * Product Category: Consumer Electronics / Telecommunications * Product Name / Description: Smartphone - Google Pixel 7a * Manufacturer / Brand: Google LLC * Model: Pixel 7a [REDACTED] * Defect / Hazard Type: Lithium-Ion Battery Swelling / Thermal Hazard / Casing Separation
On August 18, 2026, the device experienced severe internal lithium-ion battery swelling, resulting in noticeable physical expansion and casing separation. The device was brought to an authorized Google repair partner ([REDACTED] in Blue Springs, MO) for inspection. The technicians formally verified that the battery was severely swollen and stated that under Google protocol, walk-in repair was refused, returning the hazardous device to the consumer while initiating an Advanced Exchange RMA (Case ID: [REDACTED]).
Due to federal hazardous materials (HAZMAT / DOT) transportation regulations, severely compromised/swollen lithium-ion batteries cannot legally or safely be shipped via standard parcel couriers ([REDACTED]).
Despite this, Google Support placed a financial authorization hold on the consumer’s payment method, failed to ship the replacement device within the committed delivery window (August 21-24, 2026), and repeatedly provided automated 24-48 hour delays via tier-1 support channels without providing a safe disposal authorization, return procedure, or manual hold release. The consumer has been forced to hold a documented fire and thermal hazard in their residence under threat of financial penalty.

No one hurt Made Aug 21, 2026, sent to the company Aug 25, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 10, 2026
The product, in the report: Google Pixel 7a smartphone
I am submitting a consumer safety report regarding a severe battery defect and thermal safety hazard involving a Google Pixel 7a smartphone.
The device’s internal lithium-ion battery began physically swelling, causing the back casing to expand and render the phone unusable unless continuously connected to a wall charger. On August 21, 2026, the device’s condition deteriorated significantly: it began emitting an audible high-pitched clicking/buzzing sound, followed immediately by the release of a distinct, sour chemical odor indicating the battery cell is actively venting organic carbonate gases.
The product was being used as my primary mobile telephone by an adult. The swelling and chemical venting occurred during standard indoor home use while attempting to keep the phone powered via the charging cable.
Due to the immediate risk of thermal runaway, toxic fumes, and fire, I immediately disconnected the device from electrical power and isolated it in a safe, non-combustible location outdoors. While no emergency medical treatment or burn injuries occurred, the device emitted toxic chemical fumes inside a residential living space and presented a severe fire and burn hazard. Google Support has been notified of the active safety hazard under Case [REDACTED]

No incident, no one hurt Made Aug 19, 2026, sent to the company Aug 24, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 9, 2026
The product, in the report: Google Pixel 7a smartphone, purchased new in 2023.
I am reporting a Google Pixel 7a smartphone with a physically swollen lithium ion battery.
The battery has swollen enough that it is pushing the rear panel of the phone away from the frame and creating a visible separation in the device. I have photographs clearly documenting the condition.
This is not normal battery wear or reduced battery capacity. The battery is physically expanding inside the phone and deforming the device. I am concerned that continued use or charging could create a fire, burn, or injury risk if the battery overheats, ruptures, or is otherwise damaged.
Google has publicly acknowledged unexpected battery swelling in certain Pixel 7a devices through its Pixel 7a Extended Repair Program. The condition of my phone is consistent with the battery swelling issue described by Google.
I contacted Google Support and provided photographs showing the swollen battery and the rear panel separating from the device. Google acknowledged in writing that I am reporting physical battery swelling and that the back panel is separating from the phone.
Despite this, Google declined to repair or replace the device without charge because it determined that my phone does not meet the eligibility requirements of its Extended Repair Program. Google also specifically instructed me to stop using and charging the phone because of the swollen battery.
No injury or property damage has occurred at this time. I stopped using and charging the phone because of the condition of the battery and Google’s own safety instructions.
I am reporting this because Google has acknowledged a battery swelling issue affecting this model, my Pixel 7a is exhibiting that physical condition, and Google has advised me that the device should no longer be used or charged while declining to remedy the condition without requiring me to pay for the repair.

The product, in the report: Google Pixel 7a, grey color
Google Pixel 7a Smartphone - Battery issues - Risk of Fire Hazard Originally, phone ran very hot under normal use. One day during a car trip in Mexico, phone ran extremely hot and shutdown (estimated date) and became unresponsive. Since then, backplate swelling has been progressively increasing under normal use conditions. Battery life has also taken a dive. Right now the battery management system no longer reads charge state accurately and can no longer hold charge, most of the time the device must be connected to power to work. I bought it initially through Amazon US. Google support case reference [REDACTED], Google denied eligibility for Extended Repair Program despite device exhibiting the exact symptoms the program was created to address. Also, Google has recognized this phone model has known issues running extremely hot and battery defects.

No one hurt Made Jul 6, 2026, sent to the company Jul 9, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 23, 2026
The product, in the report: The product is a Google Pixel 7a smartphone. It is a mid-range touchscreen Android mobile device. The dimensions of the standard device are approximately 6.0 inches in height, 2.9 inches in width, and 0.35 inches in depth, with a weight of roughly 6.8 ounces.
The integrated lithium-ion battery in my Google Pixel 7a smartphone experienced severe, rapid structural expansion and swelling during normal daily use by an adult consumer. The phone was handled in accordance with standard operating guidelines and was not under any unusual physical or electrical stress prior to the failure. This severe physical distortion has caused the phone’s outer chassis and back panel to completely detach and split open along two full edges, turning the device into a volatile, active thermal runaway and chemical fire hazard.
Furthermore, Google’s corporate support infrastructure has actively mismanaged this hazardous defect, exposing me to unnecessary physical risk. When initially contacted, front-line support representatives repeatedly instructed me to power the compromised, bloated device back on to troubleshoot it. After I refused for safety reasons, a chat supervisor under [REDACTED] explicitly instructed me to store the actively expanding battery inside a sealed, plastic double-[REDACTED] bag.
No physical injuries have occurred yet, and there is no property damage due to immediate emergency fire-safety and quarantine precautions taken entirely by the consumer. However, severe injuries or property destruction could have easily happened. Sealing an outgassing battery creates an airtight pressure trap that increases rupture risks, and thin plastic acts as immediate fuel for a 1,000 F chemical fire. If I had followed Google Support’s instructions to power the phone back on or seal it in a plastic bag indoors, it could have caused a violent thermal explosion, severe chemical burns, toxic smoke inhalation, or a major residential structure fire. Because of Google’s support delays and dangerous storage advice, I have been forced to quarantine the expanding hardware outside my home on a brick walkway to protect my property.

The product, in the report: Google Pixel 10 Pro XL (1 TB) - Obsidian Black
I was charging my Google Pixel 10 Pro XL 1TB phone with Google’s charger, I went to unplug it and it was very hot to the touch. The battery swelled so it caused me to accidentally drop the phone. I picked it up and it started hissing, it caught on fire and burned my finger so I dropped the phone again, then grabbed something to push it outside of the house.
Luckily I have a hardwood floor, but if this happened at my old apartment with carpet, it would have caught on fire.

The product, in the report: Google Pixel 6 smartphone, Stormy Black color variant, 128GB capacity. The device is a touchscreen cellular telephone measuring approximately 6.2 inches by 2.9 inches, featuring a distinct raised horizontal camera bar across the upper rear of the chassis
Product Identification: Google Pixel 6 Smartphone Incident Description: The device experienced a severe, catastrophic lithium-ion battery failure. The internal battery cell has severely swollen/expanded under high pressure, completely compromising the structural integrity of the device chassis and causing the rear glass of the phone to crack open under mechanical stress. The device is actively off-gassing and represents an immediate, unstable thermal event and residential fire hazard. Manufacturer Response / Consumer Safety Risk Google Support, Case ID: [REDACTED] The manufacturer was formally notified of this active fire hazard. The manufacturer acknowledged the safety risk by offering to send a specialized transit “safety kit.” However, the manufacturer explicitly conditioned the removal and remediation of this hazardous product on an out-of-pocket, out-of-warranty commercial repair fee. Because a compromised, swollen lithium battery cannot be safely or legally shipped via standard commercial couriers under Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous materials regulations without specialized handling, the manufacturers refusal to provide a no-cost safety replacement or direct disposal mitigation effectively forces the consumer to retain an active, unstable fire hazard inside a residential dwelling space. No injuries have occurred yet, but the property is at immediate risk of a thermal containment failure.

The product, in the report: Cell phone - Google Pixel 7a
Cell phone battery bulged so I ordered a replacement phone. Verizon told me to return the old phone. I informed them that the battery was bulged and dangerous and that the return packaging said NOT to return it. They insisted that I return it or they would charge me for the phone so I did as requested. After speaking to customer service multiple times I was informed that this was the wrong thing to do but that if I did not return the phone then I would be charged for it. I was subsequently charged $45 for the privilege.

No one hurt Made May 27, 2026, sent to the company Jun 1, 2026, published by CPSC Jun 15, 2026
The product, in the report: Google Pixel 6 Cell Phone
The lithium-ion battery in my Google Pixel 6 smartphone experienced a severe internal hardware failure resulting in spontaneous, active thermal expansion (swelling). The expansion forced the physical frame of the device to warp, completely overcoming the factory structural adhesive and separating the glass screen from the chassis.
Over a six-day period, while the device remained completely powered off, undisturbed, and isolated, the battery continued to actively off-gas and expand. The physical separation along the side of the device expanded from a localized hairline fracture to a growing 3-millimeter gap exposing internal circuitry and the compromised battery pouch. This represents an active, progressive fire and explosion hazard within a residential dwelling.
Manufacturer Response and Regulatory Concern: The manufacturer, Google LLC, was immediately notified of this active safety hazard and provided with side-by-side photographic evidence documenting the progressive expansion under Google Support Case ID: [[REDACTED]].
Google Support explicitly acknowledged in writing that the battery expansion was “actively progressing” and posed a safety concern. However, Google refused to remediate the defect or secure the hazardous device, citing the phone’s out-of-warranty status. Instead, Google corporate support explicitly instructed me to physically handle and transport this volatile, expanding chemical hazard to a commercial retail space to initiate an out-of-pocket repair.
Because the manufacturer refused emergency remediation and instead provided instructions that create a severe public safety and transit liability, I am filing this report. Due to the escalating risk of thermal runaway, the device will be surrendered to the [REDACTED] Household Hazardous Waste Facility in North Carolina for emergency safe disposal.

The product, in the report: Google Pixel 10 smartphone
I discovered my Google Pixel smartphone severely damaged. The device was found charred, burned, and broken into multiple pieces, with the battery fully separated and exposed. There was smoke present. When I attempted to pick up the device, it was still hot and burned my finger on contact. The product is a Google Pixel smartphone approximately 6 months old, purchased late November 2025. The device was not in use at the time - it was stored in its normal resting location. I sustained a minor burn injury to my finger when I attempted to handle the device while it was still hot. The damage is consistent with a lithium battery thermal event - the battery internal layers are visibly carbonized and separated, and the charring pattern originates from inside the device outward.

The product, in the report: Google Pixel 8 smartphone. Lithium-ion battery powered mobile phone.
On May 7, 2026, a Google Pixel 8 smartphone manufactured by Google LLC was found powered off and extremely hot to the touch. The device was not plugged in, not charging, and not connected to any power source at the time. The phone remained dangerously hot for over one hour. No visible battery swelling, smoke, or chemical odor was observed. As a precaution, the device was placed in a glass [REDACTED] bowl to contain any potential thermal event. The device is now completely dead and will not power back on. The phone was typically charged using a standard [REDACTED] wall adapter with a USB-A to USB-C cable, well within manufacturer charging specifications. No injury occurred. The sustained heat generated by the lithium battery while the device was powered off and disconnected from power presents a risk of fire or burn injury.

The product, in the report: Google Pixel 7a, Unlocked Android Smartphone, 128GB, Charcoal color. This is a handheld mobile device powered by a lithium-ion battery. The product was manufactured by Google and sold/exported by Amazon.com Services LLC.
I am reporting a severe safety hazard involving a Google Pixel 7a. The battery has swollen significantly, causing the screen to detach. I am the sole user and was using the device normally. While no injuries have occurred yet, the device is a confirmed fire hazard. Google officially admits this manufacturing defect ([REDACTED]). Despite this, Google and Amazon USA (the retailer) have refused to provide a safe resolution or refund, citing my current location (Egypt) as an excuse, even though the product was purchased from and exported by Amazon USA. I am reporting this because I am being forced to keep a hazardous, defective lithium-ion device in my home with no safe disposal or return path provided by the manufacturer or seller.

The product, in the report: Google Pixel 8 ‘Rose’ 256GB
The internal Fingerprint Sensor Backplate, which attaches the main display to the motherboard, shifted or was improperly toleranced, acting as a “knife” that mechanically punctured the lithium-ion battery cell. The puncture caused immediate chemical off-gassing (fumes) and significant swelling due to enough internal pressure to physically pop the screen up from the device chassis. The proximity of sharp-edged internal components to the battery pouch represents a systemic risk of thermal events under normal use or minor chassis stress.
Initial Report: On April 18, 2026 [REDACTED] PM Pacific Standard Time, I formally notified Google Support about a swollen battery that was off-gassing and a potential fire hazard. Google Support failed to provide immediate Hazmat Disposal instructions or Safety Protocols for a compromised Class 9 hazardous material. Since then, over 24 hours elapsed with only Standard customer service responses suggesting an “email me later” handling of the events to “Push the case to a different team, leaving an active fire hazard in a residential environment. As a [REDACTED] user who takes privacy of data and right-to-repair seriously and to prevent property damage or personal injury, I was forced to manually isolate the battery to preserve the sensitive data on the motherboard, and disposed of it at a local waste facility after Google’s Specialist Team’s Failure to Warn and Failure to Respond (in a timely manner) to a Substantial Product Hazard.

The product, in the report: Google Pixel 9 Pro XL smartphone
Product: Google Pixel 9 Pro XL Smartphone Incident Description: Following a mandatory software update (April 2026), this device has suffered a baseband firmware failure resulting in “Unknown” IMEI and severe thermal runaway. Even in Airplane Mode with no apps running, the device reaches temperatures of 110 degrees F (43 C) and drains 50% of its battery in 3 hours. This indicates a catastrophic power-management failure at the processor level. I am reporting this as a fire safety hazard, as the device is too hot to safely carry or charge, and sustained heat of this level poses a risk of lithium-ion battery swelling or combustion.

The product, in the report: Phone Model Name: Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Color: Obsidian (Black) Storage Capacity: 256GB Market Variant: North American Unlocked (GA09899-US) Unique Identifiers: * Serial Number: 57241FDCG0024N [REDACTED] UPC: 840353925069 Physical Dimensions & Form Factor: Form Factor: Book-style foldable smartphone. Closed Dimensions: Approximately 155.2 x 77.1 x 10.5 mm. Open Dimensions: Approximately 155.2 x 150.2 x 5.1 mm. Weight: 257 grams. Displays: 6.3-inch external OLED and 8.0-inch internal LTPO OLED foldable display. Current Physical Condition (The Hazard Evidence): Primary Failure Point: The rear glass panel exhibits a starburst fracture originating from the center-right of the chassis, corresponding to the location of the Power Management IC (PMIC) and [REDACTED] Modem. Frame Deformation: There is a visible structural “pucker” or outward protrusion on the side of the aluminum frame near the antenna line. This deformation was caused by internal thermal expansion of the battery/logic board assembly, not external impact. Display Status: The internal foldable display is 100% pristine with no “dead pixels” or pressure cracks, providing physical proof that no external crushing force or “external pressure” occurred. Thermal State: Device is non-functional and currently draws a continuous 5.2 Amps (22.9 Watts) when connected to a power source, confirming an internal electrical short-circuit. Summary of Purpose: This is a flagship professional-grade mobile workstation used for business operations ([REDACTED]). It is equipped with the Google Tensor G5 processor. The failure represents a critical collapse of the device’s thermal and electrical safety governors, resulting in a physical fire risk.
The device suffered a catastrophic hardware failure resulting in a permanent “dead short” state. Using a USB-C multimeter, I have confirmed a continuous, unregulated current draw of 5,207 mA (5.2 Amps) at 4.4V while the device is unresponsive. This represents a 22.9-watt internal heat discharge, posing an imminent fire and explosion hazard. Forensic Evidence (Log Case:[REDACTED]_EVIDENCE_PIXEL_SMOKING_GUN): Prior to the board collapse, extracted kernel logs confirm the device entered a cellular-emergency thermal state. This was triggered by a software race condition in the MagicTether service, which forced the [REDACTED] modem into a maximum-power transmission loop. Structural Analysis: Internal thermal expansion caused the rear glass to fracture and the frame to deform. Internal IMU and Hall Effect sensor logs (Source: tins_true_data) prove the device was structurally intact and experienced no kinetic impacts (drops) prior to the thermal event. The manufacturer has dismissed this safety hazard as “mechanical damage,” despite telemetry proving the force was internal thermal expansion. Product Info: Model: Pixel 10 Pro Fold (Obsidian 256GB). No one hurt Made Apr 13, 2026, sent to the company Apr 27, 2026, published by CPSC May 11, 2026
The product, in the report: The product is a Google Pixel 7 smartphone, a consumer mobile device manufactured by Google. It is a standard-sized smartphone with a glass front and back and an aluminum frame. The device is black in color (Obsidian) and is used as a personal communication and computing device, including calling, messaging, internet browsing, and app usage. The device contains a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The product is not modified and is used in its original factory condition as sold. This model is part of the Google Pixel 7 series, designed for everyday consumer use and carried in pockets or used in indoor environments.
A Google Pixel 7 smartphone developed a swollen lithium-ion battery, which caused the device screen to physically lift and separate from the body of the phone. The device was no longer safe to use due to the visible structural deformation and known safety risks associated with swollen lithium-ion batteries, including potential fire hazard or thermal runaway.
The product is a consumer smartphone (Google Pixel 7) used by an adult user as a personal mobile device for standard phone functions (calls, messaging, apps, and daily use). The device was not being used for any specialized purpose.
The issue was first noticed when the screen began separating from the device body, consistent with internal battery expansion. At that point, the device was immediately powered off and removed from use due to safety concerns. The phone has remained unused since that time.
No physical injury has occurred. However, the condition presents a potential safety hazard, as swollen lithium-ion batteries are widely known to carry risk of overheating, fire, or damage to property if continued to be used or left in an enclosed environment.
The issue was reported to the manufacturer, but no free repair or replacement was provided, and only out-of-pocket repair was offered despite the safety nature of the defect.

The product, in the report: Google Pixel 7a Cell phone. Model GWKK3 5G Sub-6” 6.1” Charcoal FCC ID: A4RGWKK3
The product is a Google Pixel 7a cell phone. Initially there was the occasional rapid discharge with the phone reporting an ~50% battery charge to 0% with the phone actively reporting the charge level going from ~20% to 0% in a few seconds (~3-5 seconds). Also an acetone or acetone-like smell started coming from the phone. Concernedly, this odor has progressively gone from occasionally noticed to consistently noticeable. An internet search revealed that the Google Pixel 7a phones have battery issues that are serious enough that Google has an appeasement program. As it appears my phone had some of the symptoms, I contacted Google and applied to the program. After the initial contact with Google, the symptoms increased: a portion of the phone case has also started bulging or swelling and the odor has gotten stronger. I notified Google of this new bulging symptom.
In my correspondence with Google, I have asked at least 3 times whether it is safe to use the phone and Google has not provided any answer. With the strong chemical smell, I also have a concern as to whether the gasses being emitted are a health hazard. With stories in the media of faulty cell phone batteries having dangerous or catastrophic outcomes, I believe it is a reasonable question to ask whether a cell phone with the symptoms mine has is safe to use and, especially, safe to charge. By not providing this information, it would appear Google is ignoring consumer safety with respect to the use of their phones.

I have a Google Pixel 6 that has been experiencing a degrading lithium ion battery that is both swelling and off gassing. It also had extremely high temperatures making it highly likely that is a fire hazard and at risk of a thermal breakaway. I replaced the phone and waited for a new Google store to open so I could get the faulty battery removed as it’s too dangerous to send via mail. Google is treating this as a warranty issue and would like to charge $90 for repair vs treating it as a safety hazard.

The product, in the report: The device is a Google Pixel Fold, black color, foldable smartphone. It is approximately 6 inches wide when closed and expands to 8 inches when unfolded. It features a folding display and was marketed as a premium, high-durability device suitable for daily use. I purchased it directly from the Google Store USA. After less than 90 days of light usage, the device developed screen damage and structural defects without any drops, hits, or misuse. I already submitted clear evidence of this damage through photos and an initial support claim, where it was acknowledged that the issue was not due to customer error. Despite this, I continue receiving generic, repetitive replies from Google support, asking me to manually interact with the damaged phone again even after I explained that manipulating the device further could worsen the damage and risks voiding any claim. I already provided all context, including an extensive complaint email sent yesterday, but I am still being forced to repeat the process. This situation is leading to frustration and raises serious product safety and quality concerns, especially since the unit failed under normal use and support does not offer a consistent resolution process.
Dear CPSC team,
I’m reaching out to formally report a product safety issue and lack of proper response from Google LLC regarding a malfunctioning Pixel device that poses a potential fire or overheating hazard.
On multiple occasions, Ive contacted Google Support to report an incident involving my Pixel phone, which exhibited abnormal heating behavior. As explained in my previous submission and emails, the device became unsafe to manipulate manually. I even included evidence, photos, and a detailed breakdown of what happened.
Despite this, Google continues to send automated, generic responses requesting I keep manipulating the phone manually, including taking more photos and retrieving information like the IMEI number, which I can no longer access due to the condition of the device. Their latest email, dated [insert todays date], repeated the same template Ive already replied to multiple times.
Their insistence on physical manipulation contradicts basic safety protocols and ignores the potential risks of handling an unstable device. At this point, it feels like Google is evading responsibility by looping customers through scripted responses and refusing to escalate or resolve the matter properly.
I ask the Commission to review this case and consider opening an investigation. I am concerned not only for myself but for other consumers who might be exposed to this type of unsafe handling guidance by a major tech company.
Please let me know what documentation you need to proceed. Im ready to cooperate

The product, in the report: Google Pixel 7a mobile phone
The battery on my Pixel 7a failed causing the phone’s battery to quickly drain; the same day, the battery was swollen through the phone casing and eventually the battery held no charge at all and needed to be placed on the charger for power. This is a known and admitted issue with Google Pixel phones over many years: the 4a, 6a, and now the 7a (perhaps others). The same happened to my 6a, and I returned it to Google and they gave me an acceptable refund.
From the experience on my Pixel 6a, I immediately knew the cause and reached out to Google support. Google support referred me to their Pixel 7a extended battery warranty process--Google calls it “Pixel 7a Battery Performance Program”--which stated I do not qualify because Google does not have a known issue with the battery in my device due to it’s IMEI. I have since been alerting Google support that I’m trying to make the issue known to them: all I want is to send them my device so they can evaluate it, and they can dispose of it and offer me a refund or not--the phone is useless to me anyway and may be a risk to keep around. Each time, Google support makes me jump through hoops just to “escalate” the issue to an anonymous person who denies me via email or asks me to reply to their email, which is delivered to an unmonitored account; then I have to start over with support, which is a frustrating, endless loop waste of time. If Google’s support is an implementation of their AI, YIKES.
I was on a plane with the phone a week before this happened. The Google Pixel phone defective batteries are a risk of battery leak, explosion, and fire; Google has known about these issues for years, yet still has their head in the sand when it comes to recognizing they still have the issue in production. I don’t want to discard the phone in part because Google will recognize this issue in more Pixel 7a devices eventually and by then I’ll have no evidence to take part in a refund program.
Case numbers to Google requesting they accept my phone for evaluation to make “known” it has a defective battery issue:[REDACTED]; I had included a picture of the swollen battery. Latest response from Google: “We have identified that your device is not part of the impacted device... If you are experiencing decreased battery performance not related to the specific issue addressed by this program, we recommend general troubleshooting or considering replacing your battery if you notice a decrease in capacity or runtime due to aging...I understand that the solution I provided does not exactly meet your expectations. I hope you understand that I have done everything possible on my end that will help us in resolving your concern.”
To prove Google’s negligence in avoiding this issue, I bet their basic AI responds to this complaint with “When customers have an issue with one of our products, we ask that they contact Google to provide us with information and the opportunity to retrieve and examine the product.” This is exactly what I’ve requested and they have repeatedly declined.

The product, in the report: Google Pixel 6a mobile device (model number GX7AS) battery, which has a capacity of 4410 mAh
I own a Google Pixel phone model 6a that Google has confirmed is a fire hazard (2 fires confirmed by Google; 4 by other sources). I’m writing to express my concern that Google is failing to replace the defective batteries involved in their communications and in doing so, intentionally extending the risk of fire while at the same time reducing the function of the phone. Google suggests a new software upgrade reduces the risk, though the upgrade makes the device unusable. In addition, Google has produced a replacement battery they claim is safe, but the battery is not available due to Google’s failure to produce and distribute enough batteries needed to replace the current active devices in the market. Google’s battery replacement partners [REDACTED] do not have the new batteries in stock, preventing replacements of this dangerous battery and giving no estimate for when the safe batteries might be available from Google. While Google claims to have a process for Pixel 6a consumers, the lack of an available battery replacement has created an unsafe situation for many thousands of consumers who depend on the Pixel 6a for the transactions of daily life. From a communications standpoint, Google claims it has contacted all owners of the Pixel 6a concerning the potential of fire with this battery, but I did not, learning only yesterday of the issue and Googles announced process to handle it.
Google is intentionally avoiding its accountability to its Pixel 6a customers by closing it’s customer care phone banks and providing no direct customer communications on this safety issue. I’ve learned that this is the second time Google has mishandled it’s own recall of defective Pixel phone batteries, which was in the Pixel 4 model.
As a person involved in the process of recalls in the home appliance industry, I’m shocked and concerned by Google’s behavior that clearly centers on avoiding legal accountability rather than their own customers and safety.

The product, in the report: Pixel 7 phone
My google pixel 7 burst into flames.Icame home and put it on the bed and it started on fire. I contacted google and they made me drive to a [REDACTED] store to print off a proof of purchase that is 56 miles away and when I handed it in they told me that the phone was out of warranty and basically made me drive in a snow storm to buy time to pass the warranty. The google Techs then told me that my email is no longer associated with the account even though I did not remove it and then my gmail was compromised. I am legally disabled from a foot injury and I made this clear with the tech before I was told to travel and was assured that my phone would be at least replaced.

The product, in the report: Google Pixel 6a 128GB Charcoal (Unlocked) cell phone ID number: [REDACTED] Activated on T-Mobile I had a case on the phone, which is now melted into place so I can’t read any labeling on the back of the phone.
I was holding my phone (Google Pixel 6a) in my hand, which I had recently unplugged from charging overnight so the battery was effectively fully-charged. I was responding to a [REDACTED] message, when suddenly the screen went black, I heard a POP and a FIZZ sound, so I dropped the phone to the ground (so happens it landed on a bathmat), and it immediately erupted in flames, roughly 4 feet high by 2 feet wide. I threw a towel on the phone to smother the flames, then opened a window and threw the phone outside. Melted plastic and soot sprayed around the room, and noxious fumes filled the house for more than 24 hours.

The product, in the report: Google Pixel Fold, Cell Phone made by Google the original Google fold not the new one
I am writing to report an incident involving my Google Pixel Fold. While using the device under normal conditions, I suddenly experienced an electric shock, after which the phone immediately shut off and will not power back on. Although the shock was not severe, it caused a burn mark on my finger, and the experience was certainly unpleasant and concerning.

Google Pixel 5a cell phone purchased new from Amazon July 2022. Phone had overheating problems with fumes right away. Google said phones purchased from Amazon have no new phone warranty (a known untruth). Overheating and other phone anomalies reported over a dozen times. No reply from Google. Asked for escalation to supervisory staff a dozen times regarding safety issues- no replies. On March 10, 2023 while contacting Google regard phone overheating, phone got so hot melted cover over battery (non-removable battery) during chat session with Google service center. I asked for immediate escalation to supervisor and to report thermal runaway in progress and was ignored. Asked for chat logs to be forwarded to my email ([REDACTED]) and escalation and both were denied and they have refused to acknowledge any further contacts today which have been six in number. This apathy is typical for Google who clearly believes they are untouchable.

So I’m on my porch two Sundays ago scrolling [REDACTED] on my phone (as one will do) and my phone (Pixel 5a, 6 months old) starts to get hot. I mean hot. Then it starts to smoke. Then it is engulfed in blue/white THICK smoke! I tossed it on a chair without thinking and it caught on fire and melted the chair and a pillow. I smacked it off of the chair and it went on to the pool deck where it EXPLODED.

The product, in the report: Cell phone, Google Pixel one XL
I have used a Google Pixel one XL for over 2 years, as usual, I put the phone on the nightstand and charged it before going to sleep. I was woken up by noise on 7/29/2020, wednesday morning around 6AM , I saw the phone on the fire and the bedroom was filled with smoke, the smell was terrible, not only the phone was completely destroyed, but also the nightstand surface was burned. The worst thing is that the smell made me sick. The plastic case completely melted down, it emitted a lot of toxic gas, inhaling gas made my throat irritation and vomiting. I cannot sleep in my bedroom for a few days because of the odor smell.
Looks old pixel one is not safe to use, I searched online, other users also report Google Pixel one explosion. it may be a potential safety issue for all Google pixel one phones. I’d like government to investigate it.
Thanks,
