But it does overheat. And that’s DANGEROUS. I even sent Samsung a photo of the phone.

The product, in the report: Galaxy S25 Ultra 512GB (Unlocked) SM-S938UZSEXAA, IMEI1[REDACTED]

On February 14, 2026, while charging my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (purchased 12/1/25) under normal conditions, the device began to smoke and experienced a thermal event. The phone became extremely hot and the charging port burned and partially melted. This occurred while using a high-quality USB-C cable. There were no warning signs prior to the combustion. The phone was not dropped or physically damaged before this incident. I immediately unplugged the device to prevent a larger residential fire. Samsung’s subsequent evaluation confirmed damage to the charging port, yet they have refused to acknowledge this as a product safety defect.

UPDATED ON 3/19/2026: [I am writing to provide critical supplemental information regarding a previously submitted report involving a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (Model: SM-S938UZSEXAA, Serial: RFGY91CN1WY) that experienced a combustion event while charging on February 14, 2026. Since my initial report, I have received an official Service Repair Statement from Samsung (attached) which provides the following technical evidence: • Official Diagnosis: Samsung’s own technicians have now officially documented the “Problem Found” as “Unit Overheating”. • Extent of Thermal Damage: The overheating event was severe enough to require the replacement of the LCD Assembly and three separate camera modules (Ultra-Wide, Telephoto 12M, and Telephoto 50M). • Merchant Contradiction: Despite this internal finding of “Unit Overheating,” Samsung’s claims department is currently blaming a “third-party charger” to deny a refund, even though the same charger functions safely with all other devices. I am submitting this documentation to ensure the Commission has the manufacturer’s technical admission of the hardware failure on file. I have rejected Samsung’s “courtesy repair” of this fire hazard and continue to seek a full refund due to the safety risks documented in their own report.]

The product, in the report: A smartphone battery that began to swell significantly, causing the phones rear casing to no longer fit properly. The device was kept in a protective case and used for typical smartphone functions such as communication, browsing, and app usage. The issue was noticed due to the tight fit of the case becoming misaligned, and upon removal, visible battery swelling was discovered. This occurred without any prior physical damage, overcharging, or misuse.

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy A15 approximately 10 months ago, and recently noticed the case was no longer fitting properly. Upon inspection, I discovered that the battery had begun to swell, pushing against the internal structure of the phone.

The device was being used as a regular personal smartphone by an adult user and was always kept in a protective case with no water damage or drops. It suddenly became unresponsive and would no longer power on. Additionally, the fingerprint sensor/power button stopped functioning around the same time, which I now suspect was due to the battery swelling and warping internal connections.

There were no immediate injuries, but the swelling posed a significant fire and safety risk. If I hadnt caught the tight case fit and opened the case to determine the cause, the issue could have escalated dangerously through continued use.

I am very tech-savvy and regularly work with servers and electronics, and I almost missed this thats concerning. This kind of failure after less than a year of normal use raises serious safety and quality control concerns.

In short, July 02, 2020 I purchased a new Samsung Galaxy S10 cell phone from a Best Buy store in nearby Springfield, PA to replace a phone and continue usage via my service provider Verizon Wireless (customer since 1999). On 08/18/20 my new Galaxy S10 phone experienced a spontaneous screen crack-a description used by others customers to whom this has happened to their Samsung Galaxy phones. As with others, my phone was in a (Samsung) case, not dropped, and no misuse; screen cracked on its own. Now, five months and multiple phone calls, emails, online forms, etc. later I still have a phone which broke on its own for which I paid $650+$45 tax. I first contacted Best Buy and Verizon Wireless who, after multiple conversations at different corporate levels, both told me I needed to deal with the manufacturer, Samsung. From 08/27/20 to 10/26/20 I have had multiple contacts with Samsung Electronics America, Inc. via their: a) General National number, b) Repair Department, and c) Corporate Office. I did everything they said and follow all their instruction. All of this has not only produced no resolution, Samsung wants me to pay them $280 for repair which I declined.

Samsung Electronics America emails come from a [REDACTED] (“Office of the President, (T) 888-480-5675, [REDACTED], [REDACTED] repeatedly demonstrating lack of caring, plus adamant refusal to accept or even consider taking responsibility. [REDACTED] merely refers to “the technician’s diagnosis” that the screen is cracked (which is obvious); no apparent investigation or proposed cause for the screen cracking on its own. Samsung, via [REDACTED], appears to be avoiding addressing the cause and repeatedly, virtually robotically, writes in emails “…the type of damage that the product has would be considered physical/concealed damage and is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty…there is no flexibility with this and we are not able to provide assistance.” (In addition to others I have spoken about this with is a design engineer who provided a possible reason why the screen cracked on its own and confirmed it is definitely a manufacturer/design defect.)

Documented comments by other customers express the lack of caring or respect they also experienced dealing with Samsung’s Corporate Office [REDACTED]. leading me to wonder if “he” is an A.I. (artificial intelligence) program. Out of courtesy, in one of my email responses I asked [REDACTED] his last name, reminding him he knew mine. In his 10/26/20 email response he declared, “In regards to your request for my last name, it is neither necessary nor appropriate for me to make my surname publically available.”

On 11/10/20 I filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau –New Jersey who was no help at all; no intervention. From 11/10/20 to 12/30/20 BBB-NJ just forwarded messages between me and Samsung which I had already done.

Samsung adamantly refuses to accept or even consider taking responsibility for an obvious faulty, potentially dangerous, product. The screen on the Samsung Galaxy S10 cracked completely on its own as documented by other owners of the phone (e.g., one person left phone on nightstand, went to sleep, and woke up to a cracked screen) and with whom Samsung would accept responsibility.

As a senior citizen, with all the anxiety and stress this is producing, I believe my requested outcome /solution is very reasonable. From my experience I do not trust Samsung phones, thus I do not want another phone from them. I merely want: 1) To be rid of the defective Samsung Galaxy S10 phone and 2) Full reimbursement for the obviously defective phone.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S10 plus

I was plugging in a Samsung Galaxy S10 plus to charge it and dropped the charger cable. It was only a drop of about 4-5 inches, but when it hit the screen of the phone it made a loud pop and the screen chipped underneath the screen protector. I looked into this fenamena and found Samsung used a type of porcelain screen on its earlier S10plus phone’s. After learning several customers had weird experiences with screens chipping and exploding from minor impacts Samsung went back to a plastic screen they previously used. They refuse to honor the phones first sold with the bad screens when the S10plus first came out in January 2019.

The product, in the report: cell phone - Samsung

The submitter is reporting the unit for posing a fire hazard.

She plugged her cell phone into the wall and left it on the kitchen counter. Almost two hours later the phone exploded & caught fire and her daughter saw flames in the kitchen. A fire extinguisher was used to put out the fire and they immediately contacted the fire department. They determined the cause of the fire was the lythiam battery in the cell phone, which exploded and caused nearby items to catch fire. She said they have not received their official report but she should receive it soon. She indicated that the charger she used is a replacement she purchased from Verizon. The cell phone has burn damages near the back where the battery was and the battery is nearly completely melted. The kitchen has burn damages. - Est. damage $12,000

She contacted the firm to report the matter and was on the phone for two hours. She said they were not helpful or concerned with the matter.

Fire Dept said it could have been a fatal fire Smoke was terrible as well. If I or my family would have been on The phone when it exploded, it would have Taken part of my HEAD off!

The product, in the report: Galaxy S7 cell phone overheated to the point where the plastic on the charger melted into the phone and both the phone and charger shows burnt damages. the only reason it did not burn down our house and/or killed anyone is because the phone burnt me and I woke up to disconnect the phone

Galaxy S7 cell phone bought through Verizon almost caught on fire while charging overnight. About 6 months into the contract we had to contact Verizon to get the phone replaced because it would not hold a charge. The agent said this was a known issue with the phone and they sent us a new phone. Again we continued to have issues with the phone and tried 4-5 times to get it replaced. All we got was the run around and was told to go purchase a new charger which cost $40.00. A month or two later my son was charging his phone on his bed while he was sleeping. During the night he moved and his arm touched the phone. It burnt him enough where he woke up and touched the phone. It was so hot that the plastic on the end of the charger melted onto the phone and there are burn marks on both the phone and the charger piece. Verizon refused to replace the unit because it has a crack on the back of the phone. The crack did not cause the issue of the phone potentially catching on fire and killing my kid or burning down my house. I still have the phone and the charger if you would like to test it to start a recall notice to the public. I will be posting this on line and contacting local news to try to get coverage on the poor quality and customer service.

The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S7 phone

This is in regard to a Samsung Galaxy 7 (NOT the S-7 note that has been recalled). This phone began “acting up” about 2 months ago with various problems such as screen freeze, dying and having to be rebooted, and rapid battery drain even if the phone was not in use.

In the last week, I noticed that at random times, the phone was getting hot to the touch. In light of the exploding batteries in the aforementioned Galaxy Note S7, this abnormal high temperature concerns me.

I am an adult. The phone has not been misused, abused nor dropped. I use the phone primarily to make calls, take some pictures and occasional texts. I rarely “surf the net” and I do not stream nor play games on the phone.

I have contacted sprint my provider who provided me with this chat log:Chat ID: [REDACTED] DATE/TIME: 2017-10-30 07:32:49 Your chat transcript: Sprint : We received your information and will connect you with a Chat Specialist soon [REDACTED] : Thanks for contacting Sprint. I am happy to help you today. To receive your Chat transcript, click Email and enter your Email address. [REDACTED] : Hi! [REDACTED] : I’m sorry to hear about that. You : hi i tried to turn on my phone today and it caught fire, is there anything i can do? [REDACTED] : I will check the option once I access your account. [REDACTED] : May I ask what is the make and model of the phone? [REDACTED[ : And the phone number as well. You : samsung galaxy s7 and [REDACTED] [REDACTED] : I need the PIN to access your account as well. You : i think it is [REDACTED] im not sure [REDACTED] : Thanks. [REDACTED] : The PIN you provided doesn’t match the information I have for your account. Please answer your backup security question: First pet’s name? You : XXXXXX [REDACTED] : Thanks. [REDACTED] : Great! [REDACTED] : You have a insurance on this phone you can file claim all you need to do is go to www.phoneclaim.com/sprint and so that you will be guided on what to do I will locate the phone number of our insurance team they are the best department on this. [REDACTED]. : This is the phone number of our dedicated team [REDACTED] You : i dont understand why i have to pay a deductable on a device that is not supposed to catch fire? [REDACTED] : I will provide the details of the insurance you have. You : yes but this is a manufacturer issue [REDACTED] : Sprint Total Equipment Protection (TEP) covers replacement and repair for a small deductible compared to the full purchase price of a new device. If your phone has a broken component or other physical damage, you can have it replaced for just $50 to $200, depending on the model you have. [REDACTED] : Instead paying the full price you just need to pay the deductible for a new phone. You : for a phone i paid for with the understanding it would not catch fire if i turned it on. why shouldnt i just switch to verizon [REDACTED] : For more information you need to call our insurance team [REDACTED] if you don’t have a phone to use you can use this option. [REDACTED] : I personally apologize that is the policy of the insurance you have deductible is a standard charge all carrier has deductible. The consumer’s adult son had the phone in his front pocket, when he felt something warm. He removed the phone with his hand and found that it was extremely hot to the touch. He threw the phone on the grass and he heard a cracking noise. The son then touched the phone again and found that it was still hot, so he threw water on it.

After the phone cooled down, a bubble was discovered on the back of the phone, which is also glass. This contributed to the cracking of the glass.

The following day, the consumer and her son took the phone back to the dealer in Downey, CA, but were told that this was a manufacturer’s issue and that they could not correct it. They advised the consumers to contact the mfr. directly.

While at the retailer, the consumers called the mfr. Their rep. said that they needed to see the phone and provided a return shipping label, by email. The consumers sent the phone back to the mfr. The consumer’s son received an email from the mfr., which stated that since the front of the phone was broken prior to this incident, they consumers needed to pay $200+ for that repair, prior to them fixing the latest issue.

NOTE: The consumer admitted that the screen was broken as the mfr. indicated, but she also noted that the phone worked fine prior to the latest issue.

    There were no injuries.

I had my Samsung Note 4 on my bed. When I woke up the next morning the screen was black and I couldn’t get it to turn on. I took my protective case off and noticed there was a burn hole in the plastic backing. The area around the charging port was charred. If I hadn’t had the protective case on, it would have burnt my bed. T mobile sold this phone to me and refuses to replace it with another Note or better phone of equal value. This is my second Note 4. My first one was replaced by Tmobile because of issues it had. My mother is also on her second Note 4 because her first had issues. I would say the Note 4 is a really bad model. Since Tmobile refused to replace it with a decent phone, I contacted Samsung and had to mail the phone to them. I’m not waiting to see what they say, and if they are going to replace it.

Upgraded my cell phone in January 2017 and paid over $700.00 to a Samsung S7 galaxy. After few months, my cell phone start overheating. On June 24, 2017 my cell phone got so hot that I could not hold it in my hand. Contacted Samsung CO. and had a long chat with one of their rep. and got a ticket [4143410190]. I was told not to use anymore the phone. To go to my carrier, ATT and get a loaner phone. Went over there they looked at me funny. THEY DO NOT DO LOANER PHONES.That was not right. Called their support team and tried to fix it over the phone. They said no need for a replacement. Then on 07/07/2017 my phone got so hot that I had to place it in the fridge. Called again their support team same day and got another ticket ID 2169324256. Also I was told not to use the phone and call their support team @1-800-726-7864. I did. They promised that they will contact me the very next day,07/08/2017 @ 1pm AT. They did not contacted me. Today I just got a message on my phone that the phone is over heating. At this time I’m afraid to use my phone. It might melt or explode in my hand. All I wanted a replacement and a better phone. Now, I want a refund of all I spent on my phone and accessories.

    Thank you

I had a Samsung Galaxy S7 that has the same issues as the [REDACTED]. The battery was faulty, would not hold a charge and would generate excessive heat. I called Samsung tech support and reported the problem. I was told, by Samsung, to send in the phone with the original box and charger as well as the fast charger I purchased to go with the phone and I would get a refund. I later called to check the status of the refund and was repeatedly told that Samsung “has no refund policy in the warranty.” About a week later they sent the phone back with another of the same faulty batteries, in a different box and missing one of the fast charging adapters along with the box for it.

I did some research and discovered that many of the S7s are having the same problems as the Note7s. Samsung lied to me and even stole from me while refusing to correct a single problem that they created.

Without thinking I quickly got out and took the phone and put it on the floor before it could further damage my leather sofa bed and cause an even more dangerous situation. I first contacted Verizon and they weren’t any help, I was transferred to a representative of Samsung and spoke to them, at Samsung’s request to send an email with pictures of damage Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and my leather sofa bed. I haven’t heard from them. I called today Monday, 2nd of January to follow-up about the incident. Be Aware, do not get the Samsung Galaxy s7 phone!!! The S7 and the [REDACTED] has the same problem as the [REDACTED] , but Samsung is, not making it public. There have been many claims of these phones getting hot and causing injury to people also . In September my S7 started getting sooo hot, that it was sizzling sitting on the table, when I looked at it. it was cracking, I then picked it up and it was so hot that I dropped it. Sprint and Samsung refuse to replace or fix my phone. After my phone did the overnight update and rebooted I got a message across the scream that my android system had stopped working. Then my phone got even hotter. I contacted Sprint and Samsung, but I’m still without a phone and it is November. .Sprint and Samsung want me to file an insurance claim and pay the $200 deductible for a phone that has a problem that I didn’t cause. My phone is still under warranty, but Samsung told me at this time they are not honoring any warranties, and that all warranties are void. What kind of business is this? I was told by a Samsung representative that they have knowledge of some overheating problems with the s7, but they are looking into it, they are not sure if it is the OS or the battery, but they have not had enough complaints to make it public. But when I called back; after Sprint would not do anything but tell me to make an insurance claim, pay the deductible and get a new phone, Samsung denied any knowledge of the S7 overheating. If you have an S7 and it is getting hot, or after the update, it freezes up, please report it to Samsung, your provider, and the review sites. Before these phone cause injury to someone, like the [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] .

I have a four-month-old Samsung S7 and Sprint and Samsung refuse to replace or fix my phone. I contacted Sprint and they informed me to take the phone to a local Sprint Store. I took the phone to the Sprint Store on Corunna Rd, in Flint MI. The Associate picked the phone up and she felt that the phone was getting hot after being on for approx. 2 mins. But she said she see that the phone is overheating and normally they would replace the phone, but due to the phone being cracked they couldn’t do anything. I called Sprint said that they could not do anything because the phone was damaged, even though I dropped the phone because it got hot They told me to call Samsung since my phone is still under warranty, but Samsung told me at this time they are not honoring any warranties, and that all warranties are void and that if they were honoring warranties, mine would be void because of damage and that Samsung had no knowledge of an overheating issue with the S7. But, I was told by a Samsung representative that they have knowledge of some overheating problems with the s7, but they are looking into it, they are not sure if it is the OS or the battery, but they have not had enough complaints to make it public. But when I called back; after Sprint would not do anything but tell me to make an insurance claim, pay the deductible and get a new phone, Samsung denied any knowledge of the S7 overheating, just the [REDACTED] . But there have been several complaints about the S7 and the [REDACTED] overheating and problems after the phone updates. I’m paying a phone bill for phone service and a phone that I have not been able to use for about three months.. Sprint has promised to credit my account for the time I haven’t used my phone, but every month they take the money out of the bank account, and told me even though I can’t use my phone I am responsible for reoccurring charges. Also, there are two lines on the service plan that I am on and the other phone was sitting on the table on the charger, he took his phone off the charger and sat it back down, when he picked it up, it was very hot and it cracked in his hand. Again he was denied replacement or repairs. There have been several complaints about this phone, but providers and Samsung are not doing anything about it. They are denying that the S7 and the [REDACTED] has the same problem as the [REDACTED]

This caller is reporting his 19 year old daughters cell phone purchased from phone store in Johnson City, New York June 17, 2016. She had no problems with the phone until Thursday, November 17, 2016 when she was using the phone then it began flickering, the phone popping with white smoke coming from it. She threw the phone at her bed, it fell to the floor then blew up. IEMI# not identifiable The caller said that the phone is burning more on the right side about three inches long, three and one half inches long and the odor from the phone filled his entire home. He is reporting this incident as a fire and burn injury hazard; if his 19 year old had kept it in her hand or if his 10 year old had been borrowing it as she sometimes did then they could have been very badly harmed. He contacted the manufacturer and he was assured that the phone will be replaced by them, he is however a bit worried that it must be the same model. The IMEI# on the phone is burned beyond recognition.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Battery exploded on 9/17/16 around 3 AM ET which I was charging the smartphone, causing smoke alarm and property damage as follows:

    · Galaxy Note 7 Phone · Galaxy Note 7 Phone Case · 256 GB SD Card · Windows Siding and Walls · Carpet · Kid’s Portable Bed · Kid’s Blanket · Kid’s Toy · Kid’s Diapers

There was no personal injury but apart from all the phone and property damages, my main concern is what it seems to be the the toxic fumes (black ash-like stuff came out and filled the room) that came from the exploded phone. I had to evacuate my entire family from the bedroom upstairs and move them downstairs throughout the night and had to open up all the windows to air the house out, but I’m very concerned that the air quality is compromised and it’s very concerning especially since I have an eleven-month old baby. Appreciate your advice on the health effect out of the fumes. Thank you very much.

Just wanted to let you know that I already contacted the manufacturer (Samsung Electronics) for phone replacement and compensation on property damages. The Customer Service Rep there told me that he would dispatch someone to pick up the damaged phone and provide the phone replacement on 9/21/16 at 10 AM ET. Please advise whether or not I should handle this matter as being instructed by the Samsung CSR. Thanks, [REDACTED]

Worth out knowing I removed and my finger got burned as well as the phones charging port. The phone is unusable and probably could have got a fire as the phone was on the night stand. I called Samsung and reported so far I have never got any feedback. I also send all the pictures to Samsung to the emails they provided of my burned finger, melted charger and burned charging port of my device.
