The product, in the report: Samsung Galaxy S9 purple, glow-in-the-dark, glitter cell phone case. This cast was bought at a T-Mobile store in Gilbert, AZ

My purple glitter cell phone case got a small crack in it. I am a nurse and carry my phone in a cargo leg pocket. My leg started to burn and got more and more severe. The liquid not only burned my leg but it also burned the logo off of my scrub pants. I had to change clothes and rinse my leg for several minutes. The chemical burn is quite painful even with the cortisone cream I was prescribed.

The product, in the report: I bought the Casemate Glow waterfall case. The company states that the liquid used inside is nontoxic. They even told me that the “liquid” inside is made of an “olive oil” type of substance. The associate told me that your products are made with oils and not a chemical. Well, this past weekend, my phone case cracked and i was not aware of this. The liquid spilled out onto my skin and I now have 3rd degree burns and blisters. I have all of the documentation and could provide you with pictures. It is my wedding week, and i now have 3rd degree burns on my body. This is a very unsafe product and should be recalled! The website states that the product is created by Mineral oil! It isn’t. https://case-mate.com/pink-glow-waterfall-iphone8?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIq9Kegdb14QIVAVgNCh04jwr7EAQYAiABEgIyV_D_BwE

The product, in the report: The case fits an iPhone 8 Plus and encases the sides and back of the phone. When I had originally bought it, it was filled with glitter, beads, and a liquid that would create a waterfall effect when the phone was moved. Now, there is no liquid remaining inside the case.

I have an iphone 8 with a Casemate Rose Gold Glitter Waterfall case. On Friday night, 9/21, I had my iPhone in the waistband of my pants as my pockets were not big enough to fit it. About an hour or so later, I felt as if my skin were burning or as if I was burned by something. The area became really red and really inflamed. I assumed that my phone had heated up and burned me and assumed it were an Apple issue. The following day, 9/22, I was working and had my phone in my pocket, not thinking too much about the incident the night before. At one point throughout the day, when the phone was no longer in my pocket, I felt an intense burning sensation near my right pants pocket where my phone once was. After checking my skin, I found another burn that was, and still is, super painful. After researching what could have caused this, I saw a recall from last year stating “The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Monday that certain models of the popular liquid glitter iPhone cases from MixBin electronics are being recalled because the liquid and glitter in the cases can leak, causing skin irritation and burns”. Immediately I checked my phone case and sure enough, there is no more liquid in the case, just glitter and beads. I also checked the item on the Casemate website, and the product description states “NOTE: Case-Mate Waterfall cases are certified safe and NOT part of a recent product recall issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.” I beg to differ. I have two very painful burns that lead me to believe otherwise.

The product, in the report: iPhone Casemate rose colored glitter phone case

I was traveling when I felt a burning sensation on my left breast. I have little to no feeling in that breast because of reconstruction surgery from cancer. My “new” breast is misshapen and is kind of flat on top with no nipple ( told to explain photo ).. I stopped in a gas station and checked what was going on- I found an open sore (like a pimple) in the scar tissue and didn’t see anything else. But the burning continued. In the meantime I listen to books on tape and use my left bra cup to hold the iPhone while I work or drive. Unbeknownst to me the phone mate case finally leaked the last of it’s liquid out of the case. That happened sometime between 12:30 and 7:00. I noticed nothing as a I changed into my pajamas. At 1:00 am I took the dog out and when I returned and changed into pajamas again, this time my hand touched a wet raw breast. Some of the breast had multiple layers slufted off the breast. It looked like a very bad burn. At 4:30 we got to the emergency room and they were concerned that my implant had gone bad and needed to be taken out. Luckily all the blood tests indicated no internal infection, so they decided to try treating what they thought was an infection. I was so bad and the infection/wound seemed to spread a bit at first so they hospitalized me. They could not figure out what had started the wound/infection at the time. It wasn’t until the next morning when I looked at my Casemate IPhone Glitter Rose Gold case and realized that all the liquid in it was gone. I then looked at the breast, the flow of the wound followed exactly like liquid running downwards. After three days in the hospital the doc released me finally and the doctors all agree it makes sense that my infection that burned/sluff off skin was caused by the major amount of leak by of the liquid found within the glitter case. So even though the Company claims it has mineral oil in it, there has to something more. Unfortunately I think this may be a permanent scar.

The product, in the report: Case-Mate IPhone 8 Waterfall-Iridescent Item CM036096

The Casemate IPhone 8 Waterfall-Iridescent case, item # CM036096, cracked and leaked an oily fluid causing 2nd degree burns on my right thigh. I carry my IPhone with the case in my right front pocket and noticed a red area on my right thigh the evening of 6/1/18. I didn’t know what it was that night. I keep my phone on a table during the night. The next day I put my phone in my pocket as usual and the red area grew larger so I stopped carrying my phone in my pocket. At that time I inspected my phone & it was not hot or wet. My pocket was also dry. I wore the same jeans the next day but kept the phone in my purse and by 1:00pm my thigh was painful & blistering. I washed the area with a mild soap & water that evening. Again, my phone was not hot or wet, nor was my pocket. On the morning of 6/4/18 I googled cell phone burns & discovered a similar product, glitter cases for IPhones by MixBin, was recalled in August 2017 so I took a closer look at my phone case. I discover that all of the glitter was stationary & there did not appear to be any fluid left in the case (the glitter usually floats & you can see bubbles moving when moving the phone). I found a hairline crack, not palpable, that when pushed, emitted an oily substance. I went to my doctor on 6/4/18 & he confirmed the red, blistered area was a burn. I believe the oily substance slowly leaked into my jeans causing 2nd degree burns on my right thigh. So even when I removed the phone, it continued to make the burn worse. The burn lines up exactly where my phone was in my jeans pocket. I originally purchased the product in March 2017 at my local Verizon store. I had the product replaced by Case-Mate with the exact same product in February of 2018 after a button had fallen off and a scratch was noted in the case (no liquid had leaked at that time). I returned to Verizon on 6/4/18 & they immediately replaced the product to my satisfaction with a new case, different brand and not a glitter case. They also told me they will notify the appropriate people within Verizon to evaluate the product but asked that I contact CaseMate, the manufacturer. I have sent a note to CaseMate from their website.

The product, in the report: Casemate iPhone 8+ case with silver glitter suspended in liquid.

I purchased a Casemate glitter filled cell phone cover for my iPhone 8+ from a Verizon store. I reached in my bag to pull my phone out and felt oil all over my left hand. I started wiping it off and looked in my bag. Only my keys and a pen were in that section. I noticed some of the liquid in the phone case was missing. Soon afterwards, my left hand starting tingling, and even after washing, it’s getting worse and my hand feels numb with the tingling up to my elbow. I tried to get the phone case off of my phone but failed. I will have to take it back to the Verizon store to see if they will take it off. Do I need to see medical attention?

The product, in the report: Casemate iphone case for iphone 7S plus- Case has oil and glitter inside it

I bought a Casemate iphone 7 S Plus phone case. This case had oil and glitter inside. The case cracked and leaked. I looked online and many of the same cases were recalled. The oil in the phone leaked on my skin (hands) and caused me to itch until the next day no matter how many times I washed them. The nurse that was also working with me who noticed the leak got some on her hands and had the same reaction to the oil on her skin. The oil also smelled like gasoline or fuel. I immediately took the case off and put it in the bag, thanking God that it did not ruin my iphone. I contacted casemate after learning that Casemate was not involved in the recall of these types of cases. Casemate emailed me back and stated that they use only non-toxic mineral oil in their cases and they were not required to issue a recall nor would they issue me a refund. I told them I didn’t want a refund as I already ordered a new case but I would just contact the Safety Commission just in case.

The product, in the report: Casemate waterfall case for iPhone 7plus silver color

I received a replacement phone cover from casemate. The product was from their waterfall collection. The company advertises mineral oil as what suspends the glitter and gems in the case. On 10/23/17, the fluid leaked from the case leaving me with a large chemical burn to the lower abdomen that formed pustule blisters. After showering not knowing what the reaction was from, the burn spread to two other places leaving painful welts.

The product, in the report: Case-mate Rose Gold Waterfall iPhone 7 Plus case

I own a case-mate waterfall cel phone case. It is 8 months old. During a baseball game, I placed my phone (with case) under my leg for a few minutes. Later that night, I began feeling a burning on my skin in the same area. When I was able to investigate, I noticed a large hot and red mark on my leg. The case has lost most of the liquid inside of it. It has been two days since the incident and my leg is still hot and red however it has not gotten worse. I contacted case-mate and they maintain that the product is safe. They did offer to send me a new case (the same kind). When I refused that offer, they offered to send me a different case up to $50.
