  1. Emergency room

Made Apr 8, 2015, sent to the company Apr 23, 2015, published by CPSC May 7, 2015

The product, in the report: Electronics Accessories Ear Buds

Caller purchased fashion ear buds for her 9 year old son and her 12 year old Autistic son. The ear buds were age appropriate from 7years and up.

The 12 year old was awake walking around March 14th, 2015 around 1:00AM and listening to music when all of a sudden he began screaming then telling his mother that something was in his right ear and was hurting him.

His mother checked and found that the silicone piece that had been on the plug was no longer attached to the right side but was still on the left side.

The child continued to repeat that the ear hurt while the caller took him to Children’s Hospital Emergency room in Aurora, Colorado .

Doctors there used a scope to see that the silicone piece was lodged in his ear.

They discussed surgery but instead flushed his ear until they could bring the piece into reach. They placed an intravenous catherter.

They were then able to remove the piece with their tweezer tool (alligator forceps).

The 12 yr old was prescribed antibiotics and pain medicine then released.

The caller contacted the manufacturer March 16th, 2015 at 1 (877) 397-8200 and was advised that she would be contacted later that day. The caller did not obtain the manufacturer’s representative’s name and she has received no return caller from
