Our fire department crews responded to [REDACTED] for a AFA at [REDACTED]. Security advise appears to be hair product set off detector in [REDACTED]. Crews went inside to investigate. They determined it was in room [REDACTED] and it was a portable speaker that heated up and charred the comforter. [REDACTED] removed the speaker and requested ventilation. The speaker was not plugged up. There was one exactly like that one plugged up. Occupant was not in room at the time of the incident but did return and stated that one hadn’t been plugged up since earlier in the day.
It appears to have overheated and started to melt. It did leave char marks on the bedding.

No one hurt Made Jul 20, 2015, sent to the company Jul 28, 2015, published by CPSC Sep 14, 2015
The product, in the report: The product is a set of two iHome speakers, with the model number iHM76, a service number of iHM76-A-A. They are grey, circular, expand for more base, have magnetic bases, connects to the computer through the USB port (for charging) and the headphone jack (for audio).
I bought iHome speakers (model #iHM76) a couple years back. We used them with our laptop on occasion. A few months ago, we were using the speakers with our laptop in bed. We smelled something burning and turned on the light. We saw that the cord that attached the speakers to the computer (the cord came with the product) was smoking and had melted partially to expose the wires. We contacted the iHome support line and the first time they did not send the information to resolve the issue. When we contacted them today, 20 July 2015, they sent us an email stating that we would have to pay for shipping it in to be “evaluated” with no promise of anything being done. The manager that we spoke to, [REDACTED], discounted our concerns about the safety issues that we experienced.
