  2. Emergency room

Made Apr 27, 2020, sent to the company May 5, 2020, published by CPSC May 19, 2020

The product, in the report: e-CIRCUIT earphones easily held around neck when not in use 3.55 mm jack; 48 in. cord; speaker diameter: 10mm; sensitivity: 90DB; Impedeance: 320HM; Frequency Range: 20-20000HZ; Plug: 3.5MM; Stereo

I purchased a set of e-Circuit brand earphones from Dollar Tree on March 17, 2020. They are imported from China by Dollar Tree’s parent company Greenbrier International, 508 Volvo Parkway, Chesapeake, Virginia 23320. On April 22, 2020, I was watching a DVD on my laptop using the earbuds. My ear started to itch, so I pulled the earbud out of my ear. The rubber portion came off and lodged in my ear. Several people tried to help me remove it with my own tweezers, but it just got lodged in deeper. Eventually, we had to call Emergency Medical Services, and during the ambulance ride, it started to get painful.. After a three hour wait ar [REDACTED], where I didn’t want to go because of the current pandemic, a physician assistant was able to remove it after about four attempts. She examined my ear, and thankfully, there was no damage to my eardrum. I saved the earbud as evidence just like I saved the packaging. These were not even noiseblockers. I could often hear my roommate on the phone louder than the computer audio on the earbuds at maximum volume. It’s bad enough that this happened to me as an adult, but imagine it happening to a child. It was actually taken care of in the pediatric emergency department to keep people without COVID-19 away from those who do.
