Hurt, care not known Made Aug 10, 2022, sent to the company Aug 15, 2022, published by CPSC Aug 29, 2022
The product, in the report: Bose 20 Companion Desktop Multi Media Speaker System. Purchased direct from Bose in 2012.
Bose 20 Companion 20 Multi Media Desktop Speaker System I using the PC and the speakers were on. The sound cut out, the pod control went dark and without a response while a burning plastic smell enveloped the room. The source was the electrical supply jack plugged into the system. It was too hot to touch and liquid was coming out of the jack as the meltdown of the plastic continued. Now the system’s power supply jack is melted and filled with material. This clearly could have progressed into a house fire had I not been home for early intervention. The lungs are irritated from inhaling the toxic fumes.

I have a Bose headset that is a little over a year old. When I plugged them in to charge today, the connection between the charger and the headset melted because it got so hot. Had I not been here, it would have caused a fire.

The product, in the report: Bose Acoutimas 10 stereo speaker system with subwoofer.
Bose Acoustimas 10 lll Home Entertainment System caught on fire while idle. The base unit (control unit) was plugged into the stereo and electrical wall outlet but was not being used. The system had been idle for several days. No fluids were spilled on it nor any damage done to the unit, prior to the fire.
My wife was in the room, with the stereo off, when she smelled the strong scent of the plastic cabinet burning. Luckily we were present when the fire started. If the occurence had been 15 minutes earlier or later, the whole house might have caught on fire.

The product, in the report: Wireless headphones with 15 hour battery
While wearing the Bose QuietComfort 30 Bluetooth Wireless head phones this past weekend I felt a sharp pain around my neck. As I began to investigate I saw an arc of electricity emitting from the battery pack around my neck to my skin. The direct location was the power on/off button. I immediately took off the headset and also noted the physical temperature of the battery pack was very hot to the touch. I was unable to turn the power off the device from that point forward as well. Now, I am able to see a discoloration or scalded appearance to the area near the button and my neck has a first degree burn at that location wear the button and my neck lined up.

Hurt, no treatment Made Jul 23, 2015, sent to the company Jul 31, 2015, published by CPSC Aug 14, 2015
The product, in the report: noise canceling headphones
I was listening to the headphones (Bose Quiet Comfort 20i) and when removing them from my ears there was a loud screeching sound from the left channel. But when I used them again the noise went away. A couple of weeks later when I had inserted the headphones and turned on the noise canceling unit the screeching occurred again a deafening and very painful level. The ear buds are constructed in two pieces that are joined together (with glue?). This joint had failed and when pressure was applied on the ear bud by placing it in my ear the screeching occurred. The level was loud enough to be dangerous to my hearing in my left ear. Days later I have not fully recovered from the exposure to the noise.
