The product, in the report: 5 channel home theater amplifier
I am reporting a fire in multi-channel home theater amplifier made by Axiom Audio of Canada. The incident occurred on THU 6/11/2015. During an electrical storm I shut off the amplifier and was attempting to unplug it when lightning struck. The unit was inside the house on an equipment rack at the time. I unplugged the unit immediately after the strike. Several hours later, after the storm had passed, I plugged the amplifier back in and powered it up. After a few seconds the amplifier began to smoke and I could see flames through the slots in top. I immediately shut down the amplifier. I contacted Axiom Audio on FRI 6/12/2015; they have not returned my call as of 6/16.
This is the second time this amplifier has caught fire. The first time was SEP of last year (2014). That time I was not at home when the fire occurred. I came home and smelled electrical smoke. I identified the source as the amplifier. The amplifier was dead. I returned it to Axiom Audio for repairs.
This product is a fire hazard. I will not use one in my home again.
