The product, in the report: White Vava 5 inch Baby Monitor. I believe it is the one linked below but the model number/serial number was charred off. I do not have access to the receipt as it was purchased from BuyBuyBaby and they have since been acquired. https://www.vava.com/products/baby-monitor-parent-unit?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=18859997944&gbraid=0AAAAADb3oFOu4ajN3j_D1gwXhgMdeFcvR&gclid=Cj0KCQjww-HABhCGARIsALLO6XznBGghiE3enxcuxTCqP4mdDpeWrxFIabO5lzh5nNKeSoEX0E3Y2MgaAlOxEALw_wcB

Thursday April 17 I was at home with my two daughters, age 2 and 3. My 2 year old daughter had just taken a nap, I saw her wake up on the baby monitor so I went in to get her. The baby monitor was in my bedroom on my nightstand plugged directly into the wall. While I was getting my 2 year old I started hearing loud banging noises and my 3 year old ran in the room terrified asking what was happening. Then I heard the fire alarm go off and quickly got the kids outside. I went inside to see what was happening and saw my bedroom full of smoke. I called 911 and told them something in my house had caught on fire. I went outside to check on the girls and the police arrived. The officer ran into my house, grabbed the smoking baby monitor, ran outside with it and threw it on the lawn. The baby monitor had burned through the floor. The new flooring in our bedroom is now ruined. The bedroom and bathroom, once filled with smoke, still smell of fire. Every day my kids ask about the fire and are terrified of it happening again.

The baby monitor was a gift off my registry from BuyBuyBaby purchased in March 2021. We have used it daily since May 2021.

The product, in the report: VAVA Split View 5” 720P Video Baby Monitor VAVA BABY MONITOR Model: VA-IH009 Input: DC 5V=2A Manufacturer: Shenzhen NearbyExpress Technology Development Co.,Ltd. EU importer. ZBT International Trading GmbH, Halstenbeker Weg 98C, 25462 Rellingen, Deutschland FCC ID: 2AVUHVA-IH006B IC: 24887-1H0068 CER SN: 47202522428 Made in China

I was putting my son down for his nap/bed and his dad went to unplug our VAVA Split View 5” 720P Video Baby Monitor from the charger. The monitor itself was very hot (it had previously gotten warm, but never hot to the touch) and almost shocked/burned him when he unplugged the item. After he unplugged it, he smelled the unit and said it smelled like it was burning. I smelled it and agreed with that. The charging port looked dark (instead of silver) and smelled badly of burnt metal. We turned on the monitor to see if it would work and it did. However, we turned it off quickly and have not used it since as we were worried about it catching fire.

The product, in the report: Vava 720p video baby monitor. White. Purchased 4/16/2021. Original order number: [REDACTED]

Hi! Ive had a vava baby camera and monitor for about 2.5 years now. Last night I was woken up in the middle of the night to an awful smell of burning chemicals stinging my nose and throat. As I was looking around my room to see what it could be I noticed it was hazy/mildly smoky on my husbands side of the bed where the baby monitor was plugged in I picked it up and it was extremely hot to the touch and overwhelmingly smelled of that burning chemical. I unplugged it and took it outside and put it in a metal box in case it caught fire. I checked this morning and it is no longer hot, but it still smells like burnt chemicals. Needless to say it is no longer working either. It doesnt *look* like theres damage just by looking at it. But it wont turn on, theres something rattling in it, and if you touch it, it makes your hand stink.

I thought you should know so this doesnt happen to someone else. We have only ever used the charger that came with the monitor. I hate to think what would have happened if I hadnt woken up in time. I also hate to think about what we were breathing in and for how long that was burning my nose and throat that bad. Theres no way thats healthy for people.

The product, in the report: VAVA 720P baby monitor with 5” HD display video. This is the exact product on Amazon, where we purchased it: https://www.amazon.com/VAVA-Monitor-Cameras-Battery-One-Click/dp/B08C2DT34V/ref=sr_1_4?crid=24F8DULGUO2E0&keywords=vava+baby+monitor&qid=1677031552&sprefix=vava+baby+monitor%2Caps%2C107&sr=8-4 The model and serial numbers below are from the two cameras that were synced to the monitor. One camera came with the monitor and the other was purchased separately. The label information on the monitor itself is unreadable after it exploded.

My baby monitor parent unit exploded. It is a VaVa baby monitor with 2 cameras. It had only been on for 45 minutes. It was not plugged in, it was not wet, and the video screen was not on. It made a squealing/hissing sound, got very hot, and made smoke. My nanny briefly picked up the monitor to see what was going on (when it started squealing) and it left a small burn on her hand.

*** Of note, when I was looking up the product on Amazon to contact the manufacturer, I saw a review of another person whose monitor also exploded!!! ***
