The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Lorex security system. Monitor Model WL2750.

I have a Lorex security system (Model WL2750) with monitor and two cameras. I went to pick up my monitor and the area where the batter is was so hot it stung my hand. I quickly let go of the monitor and it had already turned my hand bright red. The battery “door” is being pushed out from the back of the monitor because the battery is expanding so much.

I called the company and they said that they are aware of the battery issue and since I am out of warranty, they will only charge me $200 for a new system. Which is the price of this system on sale. I am very worried that these could potentially start a fire or seriously burn someone. This is the exact same issue they are having with their care n share baby monitor. I’m not sure why these have not been recalled yet.

The product, in the report: Lorex Care ‘N’ Share video baby monitors sold in bundles with cameras. The monitors contain a blue lithium polymer battery and measure about 4 inches tall by 5 inches wide. The monitors have a white plastic back and a white border. “The Lorex Baby” is printed below the monitor screen.

Swelling of the battery pack, causing its plastic casing to open or come off. We had to cut the battery wires (the battery is permanently attached to the monitor) and dispose of the battery and keep the power cord attached to the monitor in order for it to work. Since the battery pack swelling less than 6 months from start of use in March 2014, we’ve not been able to use the cordless feature.

The product, in the report: Lorex 3.5” Digital Wireless LCD Color Monitor Model No WL3520

We have our Lorex WL3520 Baby Monitor plugged in by our bedside to monitor our baby through the night. We first purchased the monitor in November 2014 and between then and now we have had 3 separate battery packs expand and bust through the back of the monitor. The battery packs get very hot and begin expanding, and the latest one expanded so much that it broke the battery cover on the back of the monitor. Once the battery pack begins expanding, it will no longer hold a charge, so we have to keep the monitor plugged in at all times -- which of course does not allow us to ever move the monitor from our bedside.

The product, in the report: Video Baby Monitor

I have had this monitor since March of 2015. I started using it in May/June 2015, and by August 2015, the battery was no longer holding a charge. I could not unplug it for more than 2 minutes without the handset dying. I contacted Lorex in mid August to replace the battery. A replacement was not sent out until OCTOBER! I replaced the battery and again, by December 2015 we were having issues with the battery not keeping a charge. Contacted the company again and their response this time was that this request could not be handled online. Why have technical online support if you cannot do a simple battery replacement request?! Less than 2 weeks later, the battery expanded so badly that it popped the piece out that holds the battery in (the piece is screwed in!). My husband called and the best they could do was send a replacement battery but it has a 7 business day processing time. I currently have a son that has breathing difficulties due to allergies and I need to be able to hear him through my house when he is sleeping or napping. This is unacceptable. They have a KNOWN battery issue, yet instead of fixing the issue, they continue to use the same battery for the device.

The product, in the report: Lorex baby monitor, Model # WL4320, 4.3” digital wireless LCD color monitor - malfunctioning rechargeable battery pack

LOREX WL4320: SERIOUS BATTERY FLAW: purchased this baby monitor just under a year ago. After a few days of use, the battery would not keep a charge (NOT safe to have a baby monitor shutting off shortly after being removed from the AC cable). Got a replacement battery from Lorex. A few months later the 2nd battery wouldn’t hold a charge and expanded breaking out the battery tray cover (? fire risk). Got a 3rd battery from Lorex. Over the past week the 3rd battery is expanding again, and won’t hold a charge. CLEARLY this product should be recalled entirely as a safety risk. Please CPSC: even if the device does not catch fire, it is a risk to infants if the monitor shuts off very prematurely when on battery power-- you have an unmonitored infant. As a board certified sleep disorders specialist, let me also add how extremely dangerous this is, to have a completely unmonitored infant, when parents falsely believe their monitor is working. NOTE: after contacting Lorex today to find out about getting a 4th battery, and finding out they have a technical bulletin on this, isn’t that enough for the CSPC to force a mandatory recall and refund program for parents owning this flawed device?

I purchased the Lorel Care n Share baby monitor with 2 cameras for my children. Within a month of using it the battery life was cut in half, within 2 months it had to remain on the charger. From there the sound stopped working. From there the video stopped showing live and would show a stale image that refreshed every 30 seconds or so. Now the camera is hot and not working at all and the battery is swollen. So it went from not working well to being dangerous. If you visit the Lorex Technology [REDACTED]page you can see that many many others are experiencing the same things. Lorex won’t respond via phone, e-mail or online. So many people are losing money and being exposed to dangerous products!
