The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: YOZMA IN10 E-bike

The YOZMA IN10 electric bicycle, sold in the United States, appears to have a safety-related defect involving the chain tensioner pulley wheel. During normal use, the pulley wheel prematurely deteriorated and ultimately disintegrated after approximately 230 miles of operation. The failure occurred while the e-bike was being ridden at approximately 30 mph. When the pulley wheel failed, the drive chain lost proper tension, derailed from the rear sprocket, and caused a sudden loss of propulsion. This nearly resulted in a crash and serious injury. The YOZMA IN10 is advertised as capable of speeds up to approximately 40 mph. Failure of the chain tensioner assembly at these speeds creates a significant risk of loss of control, collision, and rider injury. Replacement chain tensioner pulley wheels listed on the manufacturer’s website are currently sold out. While the reason for the lack of availability is unknown, it may indicate increased demand for replacement parts consistent with similar failures experienced by other owners. Based on the premature failure of a critical drivetrain component after only approximately 230 miles of normal use, I believe this condition presents an unreasonable safety risk and warrants investigation.
