Summary: Severe manufacturing defect involving reversed electrical polarity at the factory-installed battery port, resulting in a catastrophic short circuit, complete electrical system failure, and unrecoverable battery damage. The Defect: During factory assembly, the positive (+) and negative (-) wiring leads behind the main dual-battery connection port were crossed and connected in reverse polarity. The Incident & Progression: The vehicle initially exhibited irregular motor noise and progressive electrical resistance under normal operation. Upon attempting to isolate the issue with an authorized manufacturer-supplied component, the reversed polarity circuit caused a catastrophic backflow of current. This triggered a critical over-voltage loop, permanently destroying the electronic controller and locking out the main lithium-ion batteries. Certified Diagnostic Proof: A professional inspection conducted by certified technicians at an independent bicycle service center (LoweRiders Bikes & Boards) confirmed the reversed factory wiring loop. Testing of the heavy-duty lithium-ion batteries on the diagnostic bench revealed they are completely fried and permanently locked out, outputting an unrecoverable 3V due to internal protection circuit (BMS) failure caused by the manufacturer’s surge. 3. Hazard Type & Public Safety Risk Primary Hazard: Electrical / Fire Hazard. Risk Assessment: Crossing positive and negative high-voltage lines on a high-capacity lithium-ion battery system creates an immediate risk of a catastrophic short circuit, thermal runaway, and battery fire. Had the internal Battery Management System (BMS) failed to sacrifice itself during the surge, a severe electrical fire could have occurred during operation or charging. This poses a systemic risk to all consumers operating the 2024 ENGWE LE20 model. 4. Manufacturer Response The manufacturer was formally notified of the certified factory defect with photographic evidence of the dead voltage. The manufacturer refused to acknowledge the systemic assembly error or issue a safety replacement, instead using automated customer service scripts to run out the standard warranty timeline and shift financial liability for the hazardous components onto the consumer.
