The product, in the report: 2008 Artic Cat 650 Prowler side by side ATV Model Prowler 650 XT
While driving my 2008 Artic Cat Prowler 650 side by side the front differential locked up causing loss of control of vehicle and running off the road down a steep ravine. Deep snow stopped the vehicle from rolling over, but the front differential was locked up and leaking oil so the vehicle could not be driven. I removed the front differential once I got the vehicle back to my house and it was completely broken in half. The problem looks to be the welds on the pin holding the spider gear in place broke and the pin locked between the gear and the housing, locking up the front end and steering, causing loss of control of the vehicle. There is a recall for this same issue for the 2008 Artic Cat ATV’s but not for the Prowler side by sides. My understanding is they use the same front differential in both vehicles. This was a very scarey and dangerous situation and Artic Cat needs to expand the recall to include the 2008/2009 side by sides.
