The product, in the report: 2007 Arctic Cat Prowler 650 H1 XT side by side atv / UTV arctic cat green in colour | Model Prowler 650 H1 XT
I would like to report a safety concern !! My wife was out for a ride on our arctic cat prowler 650 h1 xt side by side UTV and she said while driving the bike became very loud so she stoped and inspected the bike and she discovered that under the cargo box the muffler was laying on top of a bar and there was oil on the rear bars and was not good so she left the bike there and proceeded to walk back about 2 miles to reach me I then went to pick up bike with my truck and trailer and when I got there I noticed the muffler on the ground I looked at muffler and noticed the piece of pipe that is welded into muffler had broke right at the welded area and therefore the muffler was not secure and just hanging of the hanger until it fell off and when it fell off it knocked the other exhaust pipe upward towards the plastic cargo box and at that time I discovered a hole melted right through the plastic cargo box and there was a jerry can of gas within inches away from that melted hole that could have been an explosive fire causing injury or death ! In my eyes this is clearly a safety concern and should merit a recall notice ! I bought this bike new as a demo in 2007 this incident happened in August 2008 I have contacted arctic cat manufacture at that time and explained and even sent them a detailed letter and pictures she basically brushed me off by saying our bikes our tested and they don’t get hot enough to do that is what she told me ! So I felt like that’s not going anywhere so I then decided to take bike back to dealer and let them determine outcome and the dealer took pictures and appraised the damage at $974.91 ca. And sent it out to them and told me they make the decision ! So as I was at the dealer I decided to take a look under the cargo box of the newer model and wow I discovered that they put a heat shield under the cargo box and redesigned the muffler system ! If we go back to what they told me was are bikes don’t get hot enough to do that why did they install heat shield on the newer model and redesign muffler system !! So I just gave up on them! They did not even replace damaged parts! Now fast forward from 2008 until approx. 2017 I came across the new design muffler system so had it installed seemed fine ! Then July 6 th 2019 I went on a ride for couple hours with my wife and my son and I was driving down gravel road and I started smelling something burning turned and looked and smoke coming from plastic cargo box I quickly hit the brakes and quickly got off bike and removed the jerry can of gas that was in cargo box! And again melted hole in the cargo box! That is clearly a safety issue and the manufacture should be held accountable ! Pictures upon request! Hope to hear from you ! Thanks [REDACTED]

No one hurt Made Dec 8, 2018, sent to the company Dec 20, 2018, published by CPSC Feb 14, 2019
The product, in the report: Arctic Cat Wildcat Trail ATV
I purchased an Arctic Cat Wildcat Trail ATV on July 10.2018. It was delivered on July 14,2018. On July 26, 2018, it caught fire and burned down my 40’x42’all metal and concrete building causing catastrophic property loss.
This machine had been on recall for starting fires. https://www.arcticchat.com/.../wildcat/457010-exhaust-heat-shields-melt-down.html The “fix” did not work! Heat Shields made out of aluminum melted causing fires. https://www.google.com/search?biw=1044&bih=1025&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=pW8JXOa3CPCN5wKr65nQCg&q=wildcat+sport+heat+shield+recall&oq=wildcat+sport+heat+shield+recall&gs_l=img.3...0.0..407658...0.0..0.0.0.......0......gws-wiz-img.HP7T-O4dkZ4#imgdii=SKdTQ2zqWH4ucM:&imgrc=vJIDrqeQEOAJTM:
Textron, parent company of Arctic Cat, knows about this problem. I find it very strange that Textron modified the recall on September 11, 2018 to the Canadiens but not to the USA after my fire.
There are certain facts to substantiate my claim. There were 444 of these machines that the plastic panels were melted on which initiated the recall. There were 6 fires at that time that totally destroyed the Arctic Cat Wildcat Trail ATV ,,, models 2014-2017. There has been loss of property associated with this machine already ,,, before my fire. The business, B&F INC where I purchased the machine has installed a fire guard on 2013 Models which were not on the recall. That indicates this goes back to the beginning of manufacture. I have now made a complaint to the Consumer Safety Affairs https://applications.sc.gov/DCAComplaintSystem/Login/ConsumerLogin.aspx to alert them to this issue of safety for the owners of those machines.
Recall Details Transport Canada Recall 2017510 On certain side-by-side UTVs, the splash panels located behind the driver and passenger seats could melt, potentially resulting in a fire. This could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the plastic splash panels behind both the operator and passenger seat with revised ones with added heat reflective material, as well as replace the current aluminium exhaust head pipe shield with a new stainless steel head pipe shield equipped with a better insulator material. Additionally, dealers will ensure the spark plug caps are properly and fully inserted into the engine. Note: In the interim, owners are advised to stop riding their UTV until the defect has been repaired.
Textron has refused to make settlement in my property loss case. I have scoured the Internet and found out that these machines are still a threat to people as well as property. I can provide pictures of the incidents along with testimonials from owners if needed.
I have plenty pictures and files of both the issues that still exist with the product and to support my claim. I tried up loading some of these pictures and files but your form would not accept them. If you e-mail me at crawdaddy2008@live.com, I will be able to send them to you.

The product, in the report: 2014 Arctic Cat Wildcat Trail XT Side by side Black and green
On 8/28/17 at the height of fire season I took my Arctic Cat Wildcat Trail XT out for a drive. Not long after I seen smoke. I then pulled over on the next pull out and went around to check it out and seen the fire in the engine department passengers side. I was very shaken up... Not having any water to put on the flame. I flagged down a [REDACTED] driver. Unfortunately he only had a cup of water. It was burning threw the anti-freeze line so it actually put out the flames. It did however burn threw the back panel between my the seats. He quickly drove me back home where a neighbor and I brought up some water to cool it down and to make sure it didn’t start back up.

Hurt, no treatment Made Aug 2, 2016, sent to the company Aug 26, 2016, published by CPSC Sep 12, 2016
The product, in the report: Side by Side ATV
2013 side by side ATV 1000 purchased at Retailer in Cave Junction, Oregon July 22nd, 2014.
He began having problems around July 2015 he noticed that the passenger who was riding with him said their seat was extremely hot and when the caller took the seat off and saw that the plastic platform that the seat slid and locked into was melted with a hole burned through the platform leaving little between the passenger and the motor. He returned it to the place of purchase where it was repaired at their expense.
He had been riding in the woods July 27th, 2016 for approximately one half hour when the ATV burst into flames with both he and his passenger were burned before they were able to jump off. The burns are described as minor with no physician or hospital visits by either. The caller burned his index finger and his passenger was burned on his left elbow and forearm.
The flames were around 40 to 42 inches high.
Once he and his passenger jumped off the flames went low enough that the caller pulled the engine cover off quickly so that they could begin throwing dirt on it in an effort to extinguish the flames but then the flames began getting higher again.
The fire from the side by side started a forest fire for which the caller is in danger of being charged with fire suppression
He contacted the manufacturer Monday, August 1st, 2016 and was informed that they want to inspect the unit.
The caller agreed with this offer then contacted the forest service to be sure it wasn’t disposed of once they complete their inspection.

The product, in the report: ATV
on the 26th of June of this year, in a route in [REDACTED], suddenly the steering wheel of the atv abruptly hardened and almost caused me to drive off the road in a turn, losing the control and very close to having a front crash.. after that, the rest of my trip was terrible and it provoked me getting multiple blisters in the hands because of the extra effort to steer the wheel. Until recently I found out of the recall for these vehicles, but i never received a warning as I think I should have, I found out about it on the internet

The product, in the report: 2014 Arctic Cat Wildcat Trail XT
I was driving my Arctic Cat Wildcat Trail XT down a trail and the door popped open and hit a tree. No injuries where sustained however I see this as a serous safety issue. Others have had similar issues after doing some research online. The dealer and manufacturer claimed I did not shut the door correctly however I’m certain it was fully latched when riding. This happened out of the blue after driving for over an hour on the trails. Others have reported this issue happening while transporting the UTV also and another safety issue with that as well.

The product, in the report: ATV 4x4, 2 seater, side by side
The consumer reported safety hazard with the way the steering is designed on the ATV.
The consumer stated that the tie rods hit the lower shock bolt when the steering wheel is turned all the way to the right or all the way to the left.
The consumer stated that in 18 mile ride, he wore out half of the bolt. The consumer believes that if he would have continued riding the ATV, the blot would have completely been worn out and come apart.
The consumer was riding this on a national forest area, flat-wooded land.
The consumer stated that he contacted the manf and spoke to [REDACTED](legal team). She informed him that he is the only one who has complained about this issue. She advised him to take a class on riding side by side vehicle. She informed him that he was probably driving too fast or improperly for the vehicle.
The consumer stated that he was driving 3-5 mph when turning. The consumer stated that no where in the owner’s manual does it state that you cannot turn the steering all the way to the left or right. The consumer stated that he was riding this vehicle properly.
The consumer stated that he verified at the dealer that all of the Wild Cat Trail 700 ATVs by this manf has this issue, even the 2015 models.
The dealership informed him there is nothing else they can do since the manf is not doing anything about it.
The consumer stated that the ATV has 180 miles on it (75 miles from dealership, rest used by him).
The consumer stated that the motor has been replaced because of dirt ingestion from an unknown location. The manf informed him that it is normal for the engine to ingest dirt.

Hurt, no treatment Made Jul 7, 2014, sent to the company Jul 18, 2014, published by CPSC Aug 1, 2014
The product, in the report: Arctic Cat Wildcat Trail 700. Marsh green in color.
I was driving my brand new Arctic Cat Wildcat Trail UTV on the very first day I had it. The UTV only had 3 miles on it when the lower engine oil line, beside the oil filter, blew off. When this happened, scalding hot engine oil sprayed through the openings in the oil filter access cover and on to my right arm and right side. Fortunately I was wearing long sleeve clothing that prevented the oil from actually burning my skin. This could have also caused a fire as it caused oil to spray onto the exhaust and engine. Arctic Cat had previously issued a technical service bulletin and fix for this issue, I even inquired with my dealer if my unit had been fixed under the TSB and was informed that it had been. The TSB only involves changing the hose clamp to one of better quality. As reported on online forums, this issue of oil lines blowing off continues despite Arctic Cat’s supposed fix.
