The product, in the report: Red Folding Electric Lithium Powered Bicycle http://www.farbike.com/x-treme-x-cursion-xb-310li-folding-electric-bike 305-209-4411
I purchased an electric bicycle back in December from farbike.com. I assembled it as per manufacturer’s instructions and took it to a bicycle mechanic to be certain. The design of the bike is such that if you do not attach the battery just right, it will sit imperfectly but still run. I was riding to work one day and the battery fell off the bike. I took it home and attempted to charge and it started sparking, so I undid it and contacted the manufacturer. They asked for it back, so I sent it.
Two months later, I finally get a new battery in. The new battery refuses to hold a charge, so I contacted them again, and suggested the charger might have been damaged as well. They sent me a new charger. With a new battery AND new charger, I then went to charge it overnight, as per the instructions. In the morning, I awoke to flashes of light and popping noises; the battery was sparking and jumping from the table I’d set it on. But I could not get close enough to unplug it as the sparks were too powerful. It set my couch, then my walls and entire home on fire and I lost everything. The Alamo Heights Fire Department has a report; they said if I hadn’t awoken when I did I probably would not have awoken at all; the smoke and heat rising upstairs to my loft would have choked me.
We contacted the company, who passed us off to various sales reps but refused to answer our questions on liability or compensation, then passed us off to a rep in China who claimed to know nothing and has since ignored us. No refund on bike, no replacements, no compensation for thousands of dollars in damages to mine and my landlord’s property. This company needs to be held accountable!
