First aid Made Jan 2, 2018, sent to the company Mar 21, 2018, published by CPSC Apr 12, 2018
The product, in the report: Red Swagway Brand Hover Board.
At approx. 8:30 p.m. on January 1, 2018 while our sons Swagway was plugged in and charging we heard a loud pop sound. We then saw a very large dark gray smoke stream coming out of the hover board. I immediately unplugged the device and proceeded to take it outside. When I got to the door the Swagway blew up in my arms and face and was immediately on fire. I sustained minor burns to both hands, face, and clothes from the heat and emitting sparks and immediately dropped the hover board. We then kicked the hover board off the porch and into the snow where we put it out with a fire extinguisher.
I was extremely lucky as the explosion occurred away from me. Had I handled the hover board in the opposite direction the explosion of fire and hot burning metal parts would of been directed towards my body. The entire first floor of the house is now covered in soot. Fortunately the house did not catch on fire, but the heat was so intense when it blew up that it bubbled the paint on the door frame that leads outside. It also damaged a piece of furniture and melted the covering of a plastic plant base that was in the house. My family of 5 all breathed in the dark smoke and when we blew our nose the tissue was black. The smoke was very thick in the house and all of the smoke alarms when off.
We purchased the red Swagway Brand board on September 28, 2015 from ebay through the seller [REDACTED] [REDACTED] for $379.99 ebay item number [REDACTED].

The product, in the report: Swagway Electric Hoverboard (#HE-SBW-VTK-85370-4)
A few months after we bought the Swagway hoverboard (on March 1, 2016), our 9-year-old daughter was plugging the charger into the wall socket. Sparks came out of the wall socket. Seemed highly dangerous and given all we’d heard about Swagway hoverboards, we immediately stopped using it. I have gone onto the company’s website to make use of the recall that was announced. However, even though the CPSC says the recall covers any product bought through March of 2016, the company’s website says it covers only hoverboards bought by February 1, 2016. Help! We are afraid to use the hoverboard and want to have it replaced or fixed by the company.

The product, in the report: Hoverboard, Hands free segway
I purchased a Swagway Hoverboard last year from Amazon and have had a couple incidents with it, such as overheating, and the charging light constantly on even when charged. I attempted to reach out to Amazon, even after I received an email about this same exact product being recalled, and they claim they cannot help me. My daughter is 10 years old, and I will not have her use this product ever again because of all the issues and fires they have had with it.

No one hurt Made Sep 1, 2016, sent to the company Sep 30, 2016, published by CPSC Oct 17, 2016
The product, in the report: Hoverboard
This caller is reporting that her mother purchased a hoverboard from their online site around November 2015 and sent it to her 14 year old son for Christmas 2015.
Her son placed the hoverboard on charge around the second week in January 2016 but after approximately one half hour his mother smelled plastic burning and during investigating the source of the odor went into her son’s room.
She saw smoke coming from the hoverboard; she grabbed a towel, threw it over the hoverboard and kicked the plug out of the outlet which caused sparks at the wall/outlet area.
She moved the hoverboard and used the towel to suffocate any source of heat that could cause it to burst into flames.
When she removed the towel she saw that the unit had melted in half with cracks on the halves.
When she tried to pick the hoverboard up after it cooled it broke in half.
She has now found that Swagway has recalled the unit and she is asking for CPSC to assist her with obtaining a refund for this hoverboard because both she and her now 15 year old son are afraid to have another hoverboard in their home.
There are no injuries to report
She has contacted Swagway numerous times attempting to obtain a refund and she has populated information in forms that they have instructed her to enter information.

The product, in the report: Swagway Hoverboard
I had 3 hoverboards in the garage. One of them was plugged into the charger. The Hoverboard caught fire (I am not sure whether it was the one charging or one of the other 2). The fire caused extensive damage to the garage, two nearby cars in the garage, and smoke damage in the house. I can provide pictures if needed. The fire department was called to assist and they confirmed this was the cause of the fire.

The product, in the report: Swagway X1 hoverboard - White
I have actually made several attempts through amazon to get a return or exchange on this product and have not been successful. Our hover board has been faulty since we purchased it. Initially, the problem was with the hoverboard stopping on one side causing my daughter to fly off. Because of this, I never allowed her to ride it outside and only on our carpet in the home. After several failed attempts to exchange it, I gave up on a return. The unit started smoking the last time we attempted to charge it and we have not used it since. I would love to receive an exchange on this product for a working one as my daughter loves the hover boards but this one has never been safe for her to use property. This has been an ongoing issue and we discontinued use back in May so that is the date I am listing.

The product, in the report: Swagway X1 Hoverboard
Swagway X1 began to turn off while I am riding it with the power lights still on. The hoverboard surges out from under me causing injury to my self as I fall constantly due to this malfunction . It becomes a 22 pound projectile hitting anyone in it paths. It also comes to a dead stop while riding at a nice speed and throws me off. I have injured my back, knees, arm and hips due to these malfunctions.

The product, in the report: Swagway X1 Hands-Free Smart Board, Blue Sold by: Better Choice Online Seller Shipped: Dec 9, 2015 Quantity: 1
We purchased a Swagway X1 Hoverboard on Amazon.com from Swagway Better Choice Online. We had only used it a couple of times. When we plugged it in to recharge it, the plug got VERY VERY hot. It felt as if it would start melting the cord. I could smell a burnt smell. It was so hot it was hard to unplug it. We let it cool down for a couple of days before we tried to turn it on. It no longer worked at all!! I tried to return it to Amazon, but they said i had to contact the seller directly. The seller would not answer their phone and had a long complicated form online which I completed but never heard from them. I tried to contact them again then I tried to file a claim with amazon.com but they said my time had expired! This is a crappy defective product that I paid $400 for!!! No I see there is a recall and the notice says to call (you only get a recording pointing you to go online) or says to click on “Product recall” on the website (there is NO PRODUCT RECALL link on the website!!) There is only a warranty form which I have completed. Please help me get my money back from this fraudulent company!

The device was 4 days old and started to spin erratically. The Swagway company was called and we were assured that the problem could be resolved by re-balancing the pedals as a reset was completed. This did not solve the problem and the device started to heat up despite it NOT being plugged in at the time.

We bought a Swagway Brand, Self balancing scooter, from our local Modells store. The day after christmas, we plug the scooter up for charge, and after about 10 minutes it started smoking by the wheels. I believe this scooters are not safe and they need to be properly inspected and regulated before allowing them for sale in the stores.

The product, in the report: Black Swagway Hoverboard
I brought a Hoverboard to my friends house on Christmas day. Everyone tried it and was having a good time. My friend’s mom was there and she got on. As she was coming down the Hoverboard, she had one foot on the ground, one foot on the board, the board rolled from under her. She fell on the side on the pavement. She got knocked unconscious, a pool of blood started forming around her head. She had blood coming out of her nose. We called 911. The rescued came after after a few minutes. In the meantime she had regained consciousness and was moaning. The whole family was hysterical and her grand-kids were very traumatized and scared. She got transported to RI Hospital. She had a laceration on her elbow, and the CAT Scan unveiled a small bleeding between her skull and her brain. The laceration on her head was about 3 inches long. After 10 hours in the ER, many observations and thousands of dollars we finally got to take her back home. There is no warnings or safety instructions on the box. It came with a DVD to watch but who really takes the time to watch a whole DVD? It was the worst Christmas day ever!

My 75 year-old father was riding a Swagway “hoverboard” while using his walker for support. He fell backwards and split open his scalp in the back of his head and bled profusely since he was on warfarin for a heart condition. He was not wearing his helmet at the time. He was transported by ambulance to the emergency room and received staples in the scalp. A head CT showed no bleeding in the brain. He was discharged from the emergency department to home and he continues to do well.
