The product, in the report: Hoverboard purchase off ebay.
Just over 2 years ago I had a hoverboard malfunction by making an turn on its own while I was traveling forward. I don’t remember the accident as I had a brain injury with a skull multiple fracture. My son was following me when the accident occurred and also the board had malfunctioned prior to the accident but thought it was just a fluck, I did a reboot when the original problem occurred and then we started site seeing while on vacation. If you do a Google search: [REDACTED] round rock hoverboard, you should see several links to news feeds on the accident. I’m still having multiple health problems from the accident to this day. Also, I still have both boards in my possession in the original boxes.

My son(9 years old) was riding a smart wheelz hover board and it shut off on him. It threw him forward and he broke his elbow. He doesn’t have to get surgery but it’s in a bad spot to break and it is going to require several casts and tons of X-rays to make sure it’s healing properly. Not to mention the huge ER Bill.

The product, in the report: Smart Self-Balancing Two 6.5” Wheel Min., Weight 12 KG, Voltage 36V, max speed 12Km/h, product model: smart, specifications : 650x245x230
The Smart Balance Wheel Self-Balancing Scooter (hoverboard) by VMInnovations (866-639-9320) is a fire hazard. Bought in Dec. 2015 for Christmas gift, stopped working April 2016. Contacted company, they emailed me a 10 page “The Malfunctions-Technical Fix Tips”. Took cover off on side that plugs into electrical outlet, snapped picture all looked good. Replaced cover and took cover off the other side of hoverboard. Looked good, snapped picture and proceeded to unplug the yellow plug/connector as shown in manual. Went to plug back together and it sparked, tried again and sparked again. Did not attempt because I was working on in living room floor on the carpet. Now it looks burnt and I can’t plug back together. Don’t know why it sparked because it was not plugged into outlet. Contacted company and even asked if I could send video. I was going to go into garage and attempt to plug in again. They said they could not help me because hoverboard was out of its 2 week warranty period which would of made that day Dec. 24, 2015. Son didn’t open until Dec.25, 2015. They only provided me with a phone number to a company that no longer services these boards as of June 1, 2016. Called them back to tell them this company can not help me as well and their response was, so sorry but out of warranty and they can do anything about my issue. Now I have a debris box of plastic and wires that cost me $499.99 with no help from company. Purchased through Walmart.com. Dec.10, 2015. Completely stopped working, nothing ….no lights, noise…power…nothing except sparked when I unplugged yellow plug/connector under one of the covers.

The product, in the report: Smart balance wheel hoverboard
I purchased a Smart balance wheel hoverboard on Jan 5, 2016 after returning a different brand to Kohls. My son was riding on it ([REDACTED] age 13) and a burning smell and smoke was discharged from the hoverboard. Earlier this week I attempted to return the hoverboard to Play it Again Sports with the original receipt due to all the issues and concerns of fire. I was told by the owner/manager he wasn’t going to take it back unless directed to do so by a government recall. I would like to be fairly compensated for for a non-working dangerous product, but the owner (who even signed and dated the receipt the other to verify I came in) refuses a refund. I am looking to you for advice on how to pursue this issue with Play it Again Sports in Arnold, Missouri.

The product, in the report: Smart Hoverboard w/ bluetooth
To Whom It May Concern:
[REDACTED] represents [REDACTED], individually and on behalf of her daughter [REDACTED], in an action against 2 Smart Communications, LLC (“2 Smart”) for selling her a hover board manufactured by Shenzhen Better Power Technology, Co., Ltd. (“Shenzhen”) that caught fire while charging.
As a Christmas gift this past Christmas, [REDACTED] purchased a hoverboard and charging unit from 2 Smart which were manufactured by Shenzhen. [REDACTED] purchased the hoverboard for her daughter. That hoverboard had a sensor that did not operate properly and was returned to 2 Smart. On or about March 8, 2016, 2 Smart provided [REDACTED] with a replacement scooter and charger which were manufactured by Shenzhen (hereinafter the “Hoverboard” or the “Product”).
On or about March 24, 2016, the Hoverboard was in the process of being charged in the Apartment. The charger was plugged into an electrical outlet per the User’s Manual. About 45 minutes later the charger emitted sparks. The red indicator light was red, which according to the User’s Manual, meant that the charger was charging properly. [REDACTED] observed the sparks and screamed for her daughter to get out of the Apartment. The sparks then ignited wrapping paper within a nearby bag containing Easter clothing. In an instant the bag caught on fire. As the flames erupted, [REDACTED] primary concern was the safety of her daughter. She was able to get her daughter out of the house without being consumed by the flames or overcome by smoke. Once safely on the street a 911 call was placed to the Fire Department. By the time the fire truck arrived, the Apartment was engulfed in flames and virtually all of Plaintiffs’ personal property was destroyed. [REDACTED] and her daughter were left homeless.

The product, in the report: Smart Wheel Balance - Hover Board
I just wanted to let you know I ordered a four of the smart wheel balance from Amazon.com from a company called simple innovations. Three out of the four would shake uncontrollably and flip over after you got off. I felt uneasy about this product and had to file a claim with amazon to get labels from third party seller - simple innovations - to send back and get a refund. Glad I did - now hearing about fire risk... just fyi - these things are heavy and if a child is riding one regardless of it catching on fire - it shakes uncontrollably and flips over - I could see a child getting hurt just from this activity. guess I sent mine back before they caught fire. Thank God.
