The product, in the report: Three wheel scooter; Golden Technology DESCRIPTION: GC110D-SWI-BLU-BLK - LITERIDER - 3 WHEEL Serial Number GL10H0313 VA Purchase order number is [REDACTED]
The decedent, a 93 year old male, was driving a motorized scooter on a sidewalk and then drove it on the grass, where he hit an object causing the scooter to tip over and then land on top of him.
Per the medical records from the hospital, this incident resulted in “an acute broken displaced arthroplasty of the right knee with right thigh hematoma, right hemarthrosis superimposed on history of long-term warfarin therapy”. Seven days after the incident, while the decedent was hospitalized, he suffered a “catastrophic neurological event”, suspected to be a stroke and he expired the next day.
However, autopsy revealed the arthroplasty was not broken, only severely worn down. There was no hemarthrosis. There was no evidence of a stroke or subdural hematoma. There was a very large hematoma to the right upper thigh, which was thought to have contributed to significant blood loss resulting in decreased perfusion and death. The cause of death was ruled: “blunt force leg injury”, with the manner being “accidental”.
