The product, in the report: ForTech Two Wheels Mini Smart Self Balancing Scooter,White Hoverboard serial number: B013BD07EG
I purchased a ForTech Two Wheels Mini Smart Self Balancing Scooter through Amazon seller [REDACTED] for my daughter for Christmas. On 1/21/16, my daughter plugged the scooter in to charge around 4:15 PM. At about 5:25 PM, the scooter/battery exploded and caused a fire in our home. Fortunately, we were home at the time (2 adults and 5 children) and the fire was contained to one room in the house and there were no injuries, however this product needs to be recalled for safety. We have an estimated $7000 in damages as a result. I’ve reached out to Amazon and have been in email contact with [REDACTED]. I was told that we are the first people to contact them at [REDACTED] stating we had a fire as a result of the scooter. My insurance company is now working with them directly.
There were no injuries to anyone as the scooter was in a home office at the time, but the battery explosion was intense.... it blew from the bottom of the scooter and shot out pieces of the battery all over the room - causing damage 10 feet from where it was plugged in.
