The product, in the report: single speed Women’s 26-inch Huffy Nel Lusso Cruiser

I was retained as a bicycle accident reconstruction expert on behalf of an injured bicyclist. On August 8, 2017 at or about 5:31 p.m., a 52- year-old female was involved in a sole bicycle incident that resulted in her severely injuring her left ankle and left knee. The incident occurred in [REDACTED]. At the time, the bicyclist was riding a single speed Women’s 26-inch Huffy Nel Lusso Cruiser, which was was purchased on July 15, 2017. This was the first time the bicycle was ridden. The bicycle was equipped with a coaster brake manufactured by SHUN ENG. My investigation showed that the braking action, i.e. back pedaling to engage the coaster brake was compromised. The subject bicycle required 34 degrees more back pedaling (~80 v. ~46 degrees) as compared to an [REDACTED] bicycle. A CT scan of the subject coaster brake revealed that the non-drive end of the clutch cone was fractured. There was no evidence that the bike was misused in any manner from the time the bicycle was purchased. Further, the accident would not have caused the fracture in the clutch cone since the accident involved an impact to the front wheel.
