The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Wellgo F147 folding bicycle pedal with black cage

I was riding my bicycle to work (a Dahon Speed P8, bought in November 2011); I stood up on the pedals, while still pedaling, in order to speed up a bit. My right pedal was at the top of the downstroke and suddenly snapped off, sending me to the ground. I suffered a concussion (I was wearing a helmet), 5 broken ribs, and a broken collarbone.

I weight about 190lbs, and was carrying about 15lbs on my body (6lbs bag + 7 lbs chain + clothing). I was on a paved road with a slight decline.

Inspection of the right pedal shows that the plastic body broke, setting the metal cage loose. What’s left of the body is still securely fastened to the crank arm.

The pedal in question is the Wellgo F147.

I feel that this pedal model should be recalled.
