The product, in the report: Verve 2 medium red
I’m making this report on Trek bicycle Corp. I recently bought a brand new Trek Verve 2. I didn’t exceed the weight limit for this model. While I was riding it with around five hundred miles the spokes of the back wheel started breaking for no reason of my own. I inspected one of the broken spokes and found they were produced with inferior metal. Looked like die cast not stainless steel like they should be. I had the spokes replaced and just a few days later more of my spokes broke. Luckily I didn’t receive any injuries, but I could have if more spokes had broken at once especially going down hill. I contacted trek customer service they ignored my complaints about the defective parts.

No incident, no one hurt Made Jul 18, 2022, sent to the company Jul 22, 2022, published by CPSC Aug 5, 2022
The product, in the report: Childrens bicycle
During a downhill bike ride, we stopped to do some adjustments on a childrens Trek bicycle and noticed the brake handle was about to come out. The nut was missing from the pin that holds the lever in place. On inspection, this is a nylon lock nut but the bolt/pin used in assembly is too short to reach the nylon. We have two bikes (two brake levers each bike) and noticed on all the brake levers the bolt used is too short. Because the lever intentionally moves all the time, it is inevitable that it would eventually fail.

The product, in the report: Trek Marlin 7, black, 29”(?)
I bought the Trek Marlin 7 in October of 2017 for my son as his 16 years old birthday gift. The bike was purchased from Trek’s local retailer “The Bike Lane” and has been regularly maintained by them. My son has been using it for daily commute and weekend recreation. On August 15, 2021, when he was riding the bike on a paved trail uphill, the joint on the pedal crank broke suddenly. His calf was slashed and teared open by the broken joint. We had to send him to a nearby ER, and he received 14 stitches.

The product, in the report: 2013 Trek 8.3 DS Disk Bicycle S/N: WTU199C7229G
I was riding my 2013 Trek 8.3 DS bicycle (S/N: WTU199C7229G) today and stopped at the traffic light to cross Aviation Boulevard. When I resumed riding the front wheel seized up after 30 feet. After hauling the bike out of the road and examining it I noticed that the pot metal casting of the front fork where it holds the wheel axle in place had broken off causing the axle to shift and the quick release lever to jam in the front brake disk seizing up the wheel. Fortunately I was accelerating from a stop and going slow when the failure occurred or I would have been thrown over the handlebars and possibly injured. The bike dealer I purchased the bike from said that they were going to register it with Trek when I purchased it in March 2013 but I never received a recall notice.

The product, in the report: Trek 5000 bicycle, black color, 60 cm size
My Trek 5000 bicycle’s carbon frame is damaged is due a design flaw in the bicycle, not “fair wear and tear.” I am told this damage could result in catastrophic frame failure and serious injury. The chain damage to frame is about 2.5 CM (1 in) x 1.8 CM (3/4 in) on sprocket side of frame. No cracks visible. This is NOT a hole in the frame, but a ”sore” where surface material is removed from chain damage DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN.
Under the terms of your lifetime warranty, I request a frame replacement.
Occasionally, the chain slipped off and gnawed into the carbon frame. There was no protection designed for the damaged area.
NOTE: Below is a mandatory requirement for an INCIDENT DATE. This problem occurred over the life of the bicycle, not on a specific date. Hence I am using a fake date to process this report

Hurt, care not known Made Sep 20, 2011, sent to the company Oct 18, 2011, published by CPSC Nov 1, 2011
The product, in the report: Trek 7.5 FX WSD Model 17 SATIN
I am writing a letter of concern about your product. I am a 62 year old, retired teacher. I ride bike 4 times a week all year long; sometimes more often in the summer months. I belong to a bike club in my retirement community [REDACTED]. I spent a year researching bicycles before I settled on purchasing the 7.5 FX WSD Model 17 SATIN wtu143cl24e (7.524128245)- WTU143C2124E on August 17, 2010. I am 5’6” and weigh 125 lbs. My local bike shop is [REDACTED]. I chose TREK because I thought I was purchasing a safe product at high quality.
I rode the bike happily for 8 months, and then on April 20, 201 I, while on a club ride, the bolt that holds the seat component onto the seat stem shirred, the seat collapsed under me, and I fell into the roadway on [REDACTED] near my home. I sustained burns and bruises to my left knee, thigh, and elbow, and the bike brakes, handle bars, and of course seat housing were misaligned, but there was no major damage to the bike, and as far as I can tell, no major damage to me either. Enclosed you will find photos of the incident.
The failure of the bolt concerns me deeply. If this happened to me, it must have, or will happen to others with these components. [REDACTED] bike shop and [REDACTED] gave me excellent service and got the bike back to me in good shape promptly. [READACTED] also checked with your company and the bolt used on the seat was the one specified by your company. IT ISN’T SAFE. I think you need to RECALL this bolt AND/OR the housing components around it if necessary. Only by the grace of God, no car traffic was beside or behind me when I fell, or my attorney would be writing this letter to you instead of me!
Although the bike is put back together, at no charge to me, I have lost confidence in it. Every time I use the bike, I am afraid the bolt will break again. I am quite disappointed. Perhaps 1 should have done more research, spent more money (I paid $856 with a $139.99 savings), or chose a better grade of bike.
