As my 7 year old son was pushing off to ride his Tony Hawk Frisco Bicycle my 1 year old put his hand out and his left ring finger was sucked in between the back sprocket and chain. (There is no chain guard on the rear tire of this bike.) Luckily I was sitting on the front porch and heard his scream, I was litteraly 3 feet from my two boys. My 1 year old was screaming and I ran to his side. My cell phone was in my hand and I threw it somewhere into the lawn. As I tried, what seamed like hours, I could not get his finger free. Luckily my neighbor across the street was on her front porch and I was able to yell to her to get her husband. They both ran over to help. At this time I have my son pinned from trying to attempt to pull his finger out. If he pulled too hard he would have pulled his finger completly off. My neighbor and her husban said we would have to roll the bike to free his finger and I said “No it will chop his finger off, CUT THE [REDACTED] CHAIN!” Luckily my friends husband had a paif of bolt cutters and new exactly where he had them. He ran home and back in seconds and cut the chain. Then my neighbor and I hurried and put my baby in his car seat and drove him to the nearest ER. The triage nurse didnt think the finger could be saved. My babys finger was hanging on by a thread and covered in grease. The nail was popped out from the back and the bone at the top of his finger was completly crushed. My baby would scream and pass out repeatedly until finally they put in a pain blocker. I was sweating to death trying to hold him as my friend was holding his arm so he couldnt pull on his finger. The plastic surgion was able to attatch the finger its crooked, shorter and the nail grows really funny but luckily its still attatched. This was such a tramatic day. Had my friend not been on her front porch that things would have turned out a whole lot different. From this day I am scared to death when any child gets near a bike. I have some pretty gross pics of his finger from the day after along with the bike if you need them.
